Could you let me know if these are good prices for the Canon Rebel XT and XTi ?

$589 for the Rebel XTi with a 18-55mm lens (Subract $100 to get the body without the lens)
http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&oc=CDRXTILB&~ck=TopSellers

Or the Rebel XT with a 18-55 lens and also a 75mm-300mm lens package that includes a 1GB memory card & extra battery

And if you were going to buy a new camera, would the XTi be the better choice for the smaller amount of extra $ ?

My husband might be very unhappy with you all ;)

This is just me, but if I were to buy new I would buy just the body and then buy a really good lens to start. The 18-55 and the 75-300 are not the best lenses and a good lens is really important. The big difference between the Rebel XT and the XTi is the mega pixel, I have the XT and am very happy with it, but if you can get the XTi then you should.

Here is where I go to look for reviews on lenses and they also include photos taken with that lens. I find it so helpful.

So which lens would you recommend? as far as brand? I am not thinking the 300mm is a necessary zoom for me. My Nikkon does 8.9 - 71.2mm and I have rarely felt it wasn't enough zoom.

It really depends on how much money you want to spend. I like the Canon 28-135 and the Sigma 70-300 APO. The 70-200 seems like an amazing lens, but it should be for the price lol :) We don't want your Husband to actually kill you ;)

I'm sure others can give better advice as I am pretty much a novice at this :)

Thanks so much for your help!

Do you ever feel limited by the 28-135mm lens? Like you have to take a step back to get the right photo?

I have a SLR regular camera, hasn't been out of the closet in at least 3 years! I just don't like the inconvenience of film...

I LOVE the 28-135mm....if I need to step back, which is rare, I just switch to the 18-55mm that was the kit lens.

Now this might seem like a really dumb question....

But is there a difference of a lens for a digital SLR versus a regular SLR camera?

Just asking because I have a Quantarray 28 - 200mm lens on my Nikkon camera

 Someone smarter than me will be able to answer...but from what I have heard, yes you should be able to use SLR lenses on DSLR's ...if they are compatible...not sure a Nikon SLR lens would be compatible with a Canon DSLR.

Someone loaned me some lenses from their Canon SLR which based on what I had read should have worked, but after only 2-3 shots, I would get a ERR99. After looking this up, found that it is a common error when using older lenses on a newer DSLR body

If you're set on this camera, wait a few more weeks, I bet the prices on the XTi will drop even more when the new Rebel comes out.

Wait??? Oh I am not good at waiting!

Dell.com will give me $110 off the Body which would make it $489. And then $100 off the 28-135 lens which would make it $400. And then I can save 3% more $32ish (which isn't much, but it beats a poke in the eye) for paying with my Dell preferred account.

Do you think I can do better than $242 off?

I am going to Florida at the end of the month, and it would be nice to have a fancy new toy to take with us...
