Cooper was driving me nuts yesterday when I was cooking, so I gave him a baby carrot. (off topic, it was the funniest thing to watch him try and eat it! It kept on slipping out of his mouth when he tried to bit it. It literally took him 5 minutes to eat it). I gave him 2 more and he really left me alone :D .

My question is that if you give these as treats, how many do you give at a time? He is a little over 50 pounds (7 months old). I don't want to give him too many!

Good luck with carrots. We tried to give baby carrots our dogs and they ended up getting thrown up. I don't think they were actually chewing LOL

Mine get baby carrots and big carrots. I don't really count, I just give them a couple each. Roxy doesn't like baby carrots though, so Lucas usually ends up eating the ones I give her too (so she isn't left out even though she doesn't like them, lol).

awwhh, poor Maggie and Molly! Cooper definitely chews them. Like I said, it took him 5 minutes to eat the first one. After 2 minutes, it was in two pieces on the floor. After the 3rd carrot, he figured it out and would make the funny chewing face :D

LOL Thats Roxy, I wish I could snap a pic of it. 2,3,4 are fine.... but you dont wanna over do it. I actually cook a couple until theyre squishy and then mashed them up with her dinner.

Wilson and Lucas both love carrots. And from what I've been told they're a good treat, with few calories...much better then dog biscuits.

baby carrots are a favorite treat here. Good for the kong! Cali has it all figured out now, she'll pick up the kong and drop it so the carrots come out!

All of mine like boiled carrots but don't really like raw ones. Grace kind of did as a little puppy, but grew out of it. She likes fruit though.

I am sure you can give several carrots...just keep an eye on stools etc. to make sure they are agreeing with him. If no problems, you can probably give 3-4.

We give ours the occasional carrot. They love 'em raw.. not sure how much they actually chew them though..

Mine two eat baby carrots raw all the time. They probably get 5-6 a day at most. We use them instead of commercial dog cookies. They love them and haven't had any problems :)

How young were the dogs when they started to eat carrots & fruit?

Charlie LOVES carrots!! And currently they are our ONLY form of treats! We're working on weight issues! But so I used to fill his kong with a equal ratio of carrots and treats, a few each, but now his kong is full of carrots, and a few in the morning while I'm filling it.

The way I see it, its way more nutritional than treats!!

I'd say it doesnt even really matter how many you give him!! Treats should be looked at as just that, a treat!! Just an addition to his food. Otherwise you'll end up with a 100 lbs lab that could use to lose 10 lbs!!

Good luck!! Cant wait to meet Cooper next week, well you guys too!!

I will have to try the cooked carrots. Brady likes them raw, Maggie won't eat a vegetable... what kinds of fruit can they have? Maybe I can get her to eat some of that.

i think they put carrots into some "natural" premium dog foods, so I guess it can't be all that bad for them.

Chief definitely loves his carrots - raw. However, he does chew them and the stool the next day are... ORAnGe :D

I too use the baby carrots in the kongs. Something to break up the usual treats.
