View Full Version : Chicagoland feeler?

I know you are out there :D I have seen quite a few people from the Chicago area on the board. I would love to meet everyone and have a labfest before it gets too cold.

What do you think? suggestions for date and location?

Paws n Jaws

I'm open most weekends in October, through mid-November. As far as locations, I would think someplace in the west suburbs would be pretty central for people coming from the city and various 'burbs.

I'm in if we can get it going. Ray, do you know of any dog parks out that way?

Maybe we could ask Tracy about her place....she has tons of acres. I'll ask her tomorrow.

Yes, I sure do. The two owned by the Will County Forest Preserve are sweet, but they'd require advance registration and a per-dog-fee.

Yeah...the fee is minimal though...like $5 for a day pass. The pain in teh butt would be doing the registration because we'd have to have proof of vaccinations beforehand.

Ya know...I work for the same government as they do. Maybe I could work something out.

Also if it ended up being just a few of us, my yard isn't HUGE, but it's fenced, and I'd be glad to host something small. We could have another fire and tell ghost stories. No tents this time though. :)

I'd definetly be interested in something!!

I have no yard, so I am useless in that matter!!

I was gonna suggest the Dupage Forest Preserve, but I dont believe they have an per day rate, and its outrageous for out of county people.

From what I understand the downtown beaches are "open" for the dogs now, because they are clsoed for people now?!?

Well let me know if I can help with anything. I'd love to help organize something, guess location woudl be the first thing though.

I'd be interested in attending, too. We're located in the southwest suburbs, but I'm willing to drive to meet new people and their pups.
From what I've read on this thread, it sounds like a fun day!

There are some nice dog parks here at the Lake Forest preserves. It is 5 dollars for the day however. I have a pass and I have been quite satisfied. They are a few around here, Highland Park, Libertyville, Lake Forest, etc. but I know there are others. I have the link at home, I will post it when I get off work.

09-19-2006, 07:54 AM
Here is the website as promised. I live in Lake County so I usually go to those dog parks. Like i said, it's 5$ if you don't have a pass. Hope this at least gives us all somewhere to start.

Do the lake forest parks need proof of vaccination like the Will county park? I live in DuPage and have a membership there - but apparently they don't do day passes. It is unfortunate because I feel the western burbs would be a happy medium.

I think it would be fun to have it at a place where the dogs could swim. . . .

KrissyK79
09-19-2006, 10:48 AM
Swimming would definetly be a plus!! I really dont even know of any parks or anything, that a. dont need a permit for and b. have water!

I'll brainstorm!

Super_Cooper
09-19-2006, 11:15 AM
Ok, here is the link for DuPage county forest preserve. According to this info, it is $5 per day for in county resident and $15 per day for out of county resident.

Sorry, slow to post back. I don't think they require any vaccinations or permits. I have a pass that I purchased for the year but prior to that i just brought five dollars and paid at the location. I have been to the one in Lake Forest and in Libertyville and they both have water and places to swim. The Libertyville one is really nice.

I understand if people would prefer western suburbs for location, just thought I would throw it out there and try to be of service. Let me know if i can help any other way. Count me in for the fest!

It seems like that would be the least hassle as far as a one day admission. I don't have a problem driving up there, just want to make sure it's ok for the south suburban people. Thank you for looking into it!

I doubt I could make it which is a bummer because of plans every weekend for the next month but I'm a member of the Dupage County Forest Preserve off-leash parks. It would be 5 or 15 bucks as stated above but there are a few decent off-leash areas I go to. I just posted pictures of one park in the pictures section from today (titled tidalwave or Bodhiwave!?!?) if everyone was interesed in a park with swimming. Through the link above from supercooper it's the East Branch preserve and it's not bad. It's also not perfect since it's not completely fenced in. Just an idea and I'm hoping I could make it so please let me know the dates in consideration when/if you all find a location.

:shout: KIM! Why didn't you tell me there's possibly going to be another chicagoland labfest? :floor Depending on the weekend, we'd possibly be up for it too!!! I am still open to a small group to come here since the yard is fenced and all. I think ideal would be like 10-12 dogs, and the # of people doesn't matter. Our yard is 1/4 acre fenced and I could clear out the agility stuff so that there are no injuries. :)

There is an enormous field behind our fence that we could use but of course it is not fenced. It is far from roads, though. I go back there with Abby's ball slingshot and shoot balls for these guys.

Ok so I think I have read all the posts and see no mention of a date so i figured I would throw something out there. I think Super_cooper can't come until November due to a neuter...so how about the first weekend in November. I am out of town Halloween weekend but other than that I am good for October. Ok then someone pick a date already! :) I'll vote Oct 28 since it is more likely to be warmer. We can always say the following week (nov 4) is a rain (or snow) date. :)

We will have the grill ready and we will grill up whatever you bring, or we can have stuff ahead of time... and maybe everyone can bring a side (salad, cookies, etc).

I will have the fire pit out and supplies for smores. What else?

I should probably tell Grant about it. :)
