View Full Version : Colorado LabFest 2004 (and a half)
MISS LISA 07-06-2004, 12:18 PM John and Jeannie, I know spread out through different threads, everyone is throwing the idea around about having another one in September, when Melissa is down here with Rhys and Owee.. Do you have any idea what weekend this is tentatively planned for? I just found out the underwriter, that I assist, is taking vacation that month, and I cannot take any days off the week she is gone.. so I am hoping its not the wrong week.. plus its never too soon to start planning... for those that have to take a longer trip... like BECKY! ;)
Just wondering... :)
Calley's Family 07-06-2004, 02:20 PM Looks like the LRC Specialty in Denver is October 6 - 10 Click Here For More Info (http://thelabradorclub.com/national/) . So, I don't know if we should plan on the weekend before or after. We certainly are up for getting together, either at our place or elsewhere around that time, provided our work schedule doesn't go to pot (the King Soopers Retail Clerks contract is up on 9/11 and it looks like a strike - meaning we will be working every day until the strike is over). Anyway, let's see who is interested and let's plan on doing it!
MISS LISA 07-06-2004, 02:40 PM I PM'ed Melissa (LM2DM) about what dates she will be down there.. so as soon as she gets back, we should set a date.. that way I can put in a request for vacation time. Who else is planning on coming?? Hopefully everyone that was there last time at LEAST.. plus a few more?? Also.. is it already snowing there during the first week of Oct?
So.. whatta bout everyone else? Heather, Heather, Lauren, Deb, Jacky, Kit?
Also any new bodies??
jackyscott 07-06-2004, 02:48 PM Lisa - you are too funny - sending me an email with a link to this thread. LOL!!!
Of course we would LOVE to come - depends on the date and how much vacation time we have - plus we want to find a different mode of transportation to get there - the 18 hour drive home was pure H*** - we were soooooo tired. Can you take dogs on Amtrak? I looked on their website and couldn't find anything. (We won't fly them)

Yes - October, 2003:
MISS LISA 07-06-2004, 03:20 PM LOL! :)
I agree.. your drive is long too.. Longer than mine. What is Amtrak? Hmm.. yeah thats why I need to see what tentative date we have in mind, to figure out the vacation time thing.. I hate work. ;) It gets in the way of things that REALLY matter.. ;) Just kidding.. I guess its basically on Melissa.. since she will be the farthest traveler this time.. and depends on what weekend she will be there.. :)
MISS LISA 07-06-2004, 03:23 PM LOL.. Thanks for that visual J&J! :) Well, we will definately have a different set of pictures, thats for sure! :) How are the roads getting there?
d2roberts 07-06-2004, 03:26 PM September 26th through October 2nd we're renting a house in Rocky Mountain National Park..
Then the following weekend, October 9th-11th we'll be in the Colorado Forest State Park.
I guess I'll have to catch you guys again next spring...I can't complain too much, both of these trips will be fun!
Do keep me posted, though.
MISS LISA 07-06-2004, 03:30 PM Aww... shoot!! :( I hope thats not the majority- otherwise, it might have to wait till Spring.. but you're right.. both of those trips DEFINATELY sound like fun! :)
jackyscott 07-06-2004, 03:37 PM Alright - Scott and I need jobs in CO so we can move!!! LOL!!! I am serious though - I'd love to live there. Scott absolutely fell in love with Colorado. I need a home based business - then I could go anywhere - alright you guys - give me your ideas.... (I can sew, do calligraphy, draw-charcoal, desktop publishing......)
MISS LISA 07-06-2004, 03:39 PM LOL! And I can be your assistant!! ;)
:type:
R&R's Mum 07-06-2004, 04:06 PM I am tentatively going to be in CO October 4-11. Thats right in between D2Roberts vaca's. Hmmm??? Fate?
HEY JACKY AND SCOTT...I am driving, and would have to drive through you guys...I could drop by and pick yous guys up! (I swear I am not an axe murderer. But I just may drop you two on the side of the road and keep Georgia and Zeus...)
So sweet of yous to try to plan this for the week I am there. I hope I come!
MISS LISA 07-06-2004, 04:09 PM LOL! That would be neat... LOL, it is planned for around you.. We'd all LOVE to meet Rhys and Owee.. if you won't be- then its gotta be SOONER than October- When there isn't any snow..
:D
When do you plan on finalizing your plans, or when you will know for sure if you are going to? Not till after the competition at the end of this month like you were saying?
Also.. hopefully Heather (Labracadabra) will respond and say she is bringing both Jack AND Bower.. that would be great news !!! :)
R&R's Mum 07-06-2004, 04:17 PM I will know after the 17 of July...if Rhys gets his last leg CDX then we aren't comming :( . But if he doesn't we'll come. Perhaps the obedience gods are listening...It would be a lot cheaper to do it here.
Ryan would be comming too! Isn't anyone happy to see her?
MISS LISA 07-06-2004, 04:19 PM Are you serrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrious??????? ?????????????????
Well now, there is no option. You have to come. I think that I can sense Rhys is going to come down with the flu, the day of that competition. So, you guys will DEFINATELY have to be there. And thats that.
:p:

Well - don't drive through us - how about by us. LOL!!! No you can't keep Georgia and Zeus :D
Your bubbles pictures reminds me of the scene in Finding Nemo when that one fish in the tank always goes over to the little chest and says "bubbles, bubbles" LOL
Lisa - your new sig pic is priceless!!!!!
MISS LISA 07-07-2004, 10:10 AM LOL Jacky... her sig pic does remind me of that too!! :) LOL..
Thanks btw!! :)
Calley's Family 07-07-2004, 10:21 AM OMG!!! I'm sitting here in my cubie at work with tears in my eyes!! We miss you too Kali, Pebbles & Heidi!!!! (and Lisa and Brenda and, and, and . . . .)
MISS LISA 07-07-2004, 10:24 AM Aww.. LOL... You guys are like their doggod parents.. LOL.. does that make any sense? We miss ya too.. we'll be back soon!!! Even if LabFest2004 and a half doesn't work out! :)
labracadabra 07-07-2004, 11:45 AM I'm so mad, I just composed this long reply and when I hit submit, got a "server cannot be found" message and it was gone. ARghhhh.
So here's the scoop. We'll be in Pennsylvania Oct. 1-3 because my husband's younger brother FINALLY decided to marry his girlfriend of many, many years. :)
We're also planning a trip for Oct., possibly to Europe, if the Euro and airfares cooperate. But that is just an idea right now.
If melissa could let us know how Rhys does around mid-July, that would be great, and I'll plan things around that.
Melissa, you're still more than welcome to stay with us! Jack and Bower would LOVE it and perhaps you could show me how to get them to not pull on the leash! :D :p:

MISS LISA 07-07-2004, 02:50 PM LOL.. Don't ya feel special Melissa.. this one is being planned AROUND you :)
I really hope we can make something happen, I would LOVE to meet Bower this time, and of course see Jack again :)
jackyscott 07-07-2004, 03:00 PM I have a confession - I went to coloradojobs.com and looked around. There are quite a few jobs in mine and Scott's fields - hmmmmmmm
Where is Greenwood CO?
MISS LISA 07-07-2004, 03:02 PM LOL! Jacky you are too funny.. can we say ADDICTED!! ;)
*whispers*
Hey can you see if there are any mortgage business related jobs on there for me.. ;)

If it is what I think it is, it is Greenwood Village, CO. I (John) grew up there. That is where DTC (Denver Technological Center) is - a mini-city of offices of all types, located on the south end of Denver, about an hour from us.
labracadabra 07-07-2004, 05:44 PM If you listen to the traffic reports on the radio each day, it's where ALL the major jams are. Hee hee. It's a zoo down there during rush hour, but there are some awfully nice places to live, too.

Yes - that was it - they even said DTC in the ad. The one company was some sort of staffing agency and they actually had about 2-3 listings that I could fit into. Hmmmmmm......... (and they were for more $ than what I make now)
Okay - Lisa - mortage business huh - I'll let ya know.
That would be too funny if we really actually did all move to CO.
MISS LISA 07-08-2004, 11:13 AM Seriously, let me know.. Brenda too.. she works at the mortgage company with me..
LOL, it would be funny.. but honestly, I am so on the edge, one little push, and I'm there.. :D
jackyscott 07-08-2004, 12:32 PM Lisa - LOL! After the morning I've had today - I'm about one click away from submitting my resume.....
Seriously though - if I can find one that really fits Scott - we are gone. I'm more flexible and easer to find a job than he is.
Check it out www.coloradojobs.com - the search thing they have is really nice

MISS LISA 07-08-2004, 02:22 PM LOL Deb!
Wow Jacky.. I am that serious too.. I hope you guys do!!
Calley's Family 07-08-2004, 02:26 PM So, how many rooms are we going to need to build on to the house? :D
MISS LISA 07-08-2004, 02:30 PM Two for us...(one for me and one for Brenda) and one for Jacky and Scott so far - - I prefer the side overlooking PikesPeak please.. ;)
jackyscott 07-08-2004, 02:34 PM  :D
You guys!!!! LOL!
That's why we love ya!!!!
ZenCat 07-09-2004, 09:51 PM If ALL of you guys and ALL of your dogs move to Colorado ALL at once, you're going to bend the country!!!
;)
Kona's Mommy 07-12-2004, 12:44 PM Ok, Do I need to get dh to take orders to the Airforce Academy??:p: We are supposed to be going to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, but I believe they have an exchange program.....
Neonshrk 07-14-2004, 05:24 PM Give me a year or two and I'll be packing things up for a nice change of scenery for a while!;)
Better yet, why don't all of you move up here! There is plenty of room and lots to see!;) :p:
MISS LISA 07-15-2004, 11:44 AM LOL! Alaska will be nice.. only if EVERYONE in this thread comes too!! ;)
LOL Kona's Mommy.. YES that is exactly what you need to do!!!!
MISS LISA 08-04-2004, 02:34 PM Going through all of this again.. What if we did it the weekend of September 18th? Deb, you don't leave for a whole week after that....? Hopefully, work works out for John and Jeannie...? Just an idea... I have 4.5 more vacation days I HAVE to use by October, as we will be switching companies.. and all my unused vacation time goes to waste :(
So... how does that work for everyone???
MISS LISA 08-04-2004, 02:51 PM Or is the weekend of Labor Day better for anybody? Since that will be before the big 9-11 strike?
jackyscott 08-04-2004, 03:37 PM Labor day weekend gives you an extra day that you don't have to take vacation for.
Totally up in the air for us - don't know if we could make it or not - we are trying to save our vacation time and $$ to take a vacation in Alaska. Mike - you infected Scott to see Alaska - as for me - I've always wanted to see it!!!!
d2roberts 08-04-2004, 03:54 PM Labor Day we'll be in Crested Butte...the 18th could work. I think I have to work that day - but not all day, (major software upgrade planned), plus I'm so close...
But, by all means - if Labor Day works for most - do that day! I agree with Jackie on the extra day thing...
Of course, it's up to J & J as to what works best for them! We could just all camp out in their yard, even if their gone...Ha! (Just kidding, of course!)
LessLethargic 08-04-2004, 05:33 PM Hey everyone!
I just quit my stupid job. They had me doing like 60 hour weeks and it was a 45 minute traffic-jam filled drive to work anyway so now i'll be back on more again. (I am working part time back at the record label and doing freelance concert posters again until a friend of mine and I can get our new company off the ground. We're going to be doing t-shirts & merchandising for bands & maybe some cute screenprinted stuff on the side . . .)
So anyway . . .back to the point - now that i am a normal 9-5 girl again i am ready to do another labfest whenever. I really don't have any upcoming plans so any time will work. As far as I know, Lauren and Aaron would be excited to do another weekend as well. Just keep me updated and I'll start coming back on the board & checking again now that I have my life back from that godawful MALL!
Oh, and JackyScott - Colorado RULES!
LessLethargic 08-04-2004, 05:37 PM ooh - and this time jason will be back from tour & he can actually come!
Neonshrk 08-04-2004, 08:20 PM As always, I will be there in spirit if not in person;) Jacky and Scott, you are always welcome here! So is anybody else who wants to take a trip to Alaska! We promise a great time for all! I will do my best to try to make it in September, but can't make promises yet. You all know if it were as simple as getting on a plane and coming, I'd be there!:D
Mike
labracadabra 08-04-2004, 11:04 PM Where have John & Jeannie been? I haven't been spending as much time on the board but I've still noticed that they're not around. Are they on vacation???
MISS LISA 08-04-2004, 11:08 PM They took some time off and were real busy for the last month or so.. you read that they adopted Midnight right? They have just been taking some MUCH needed time off and did some things around their property.. they posted some of it in the Photo Gallery...
:)
Calley's Family 08-05-2004, 10:20 AM We would love to participate and even host it, but scheduling is an issue. We are working over Labor Day weekend, the 9/11 weekend is not good due to the pending strike, and John has a software conversion on the weekend of 9/18 and is working the weekend of 9/25 as well. So September is pretty well shot for us.
:( :( :(
Sorry!!!! We will discuss maybe an option in early October and post later.
jackyscott 08-05-2004, 10:21 AM A Halloween party!!!!
labracadabra 08-05-2004, 12:00 PM Miss Lisa, I didn't know that they had adopted Midnight.
Boy, is Midnight a lucky dog! It will be fun to have Midnight and Bower meet sometime as I have a feeling they will see eye to eye. :D
Do you know if Melissa (LMD2M) is still coming to Colorado in October?
Calley's Family 08-05-2004, 12:03 PM Yes, we decided to keep the boy with the freakishly large, empty head. Training, training and more training!!!!!
labracadabra 08-05-2004, 12:12 PM Have you posted any pictures of him recently? How old is he?
Calley's Family 08-05-2004, 12:18 PM He will be a year someday this month. We need to pick a date because his original owners didn't pay attention to ANYTHING - even his birthday. (suppressing urge to rant)
Here are some new pics:
http://lab-retriever.net/board/showthread.php?s=&threadid=17835
jackyscott 08-05-2004, 12:28 PM Midnight's Birthday - I vote to pick August 16th as, according to my calendar, that is the date of the "new" moon and it would fit with his name.
Midnight is so lucky to have you guys. I bet he will catch on fast once he gets the hang of all the training. You guys definately have the right attitude!!!
Calley's Family 08-05-2004, 01:30 PM 8/16 it is as you can see in our sig! That evening the sky will be as empty as his big ol' head! :D
MISS LISA 08-05-2004, 01:52 PM LOL! You guys are so funny.. but that is a real neat day to pick.. You guys are wonderful..

You are too funny! It is comments like these that make me wonder if Midnight and Bower aren't long lost brothers??? My husband and I always joke about those 2 brain cells knocking around in Bower's big old head! :)

LOL!!! I almost spewed Pepsi all over my screen.
Well - now he's got a birthday!! Whoo hooo.
Calley's Family 08-05-2004, 04:27 PM Glad we could make you guys laugh, Heather & Jacky! See, we are just spoiled by Calley who typically learns things the first time we show her, which has set our expectation level unrealistically high. Midnight requires many more reps and repeated sessions and many more reps and repeated sessions and many more reps and repeated sessions and . . . .
labracadabra 08-05-2004, 09:29 PM I know EXACTLY what you mean. You have met Jack, so you have a feel for his personality...he's very mellow and even tempered. During training, he has great focus and just glows. He loves it. The trainer we had when he was a pup was blown away at how fast he could figure new concepts out. So, after Jack, I thought I knew a thing or two about training dogs. Then, along comes Bower...he's learned come, down, sit, stay, wait, release, shake, and that might be about it...though he does bring in the paper. We tried to teach him to ring a bell to go outside...Jack figured it out in maybe 3 mins. and Bower still hasn't...it's been more than a year...I have given up trying to teach Bower new tricks because I get SOOO frustrated!!!!!!!
We have found that he has his own set of skills though, and they are pretty impressive. He doesn't care for the stick, frisbee or tennis ball...instead, he loves his soccer ball. You can kick the ball for him in the park for an hour and he will go after it like a madman. The other thing he adores is roller hockey. We're actually going to try a pair of those dog booties, silly as it sounds...he loves to play so much and gets so into it that he scrapes up his pads and nails on the concrete and can only play for about 10 minutes. He is an amazing blocker -- this dog understands strategy. He gives my husband a really good workout! So that is Bower's hidden talent. :p:
mixedupdog 08-05-2004, 10:33 PM I have tentative plans for the Mountain Man Rendezvous in Fort Bridger, WY Labor Day weekend.
What about the weekend of October 9? The 11th is a Monday holiday (Columbus day). Levi's birthday is the 19th, and speaking from experience, if we wait too long into October we could end up with a sledding party. In the last 6 years we've only been able to do his party outside once, and we had snow twice. My job's really flexible, so any day is not a problem.
J&J, if there's anything I can do to help let me know!
