View Full Version : Concern about dogs on actual docks at marinas...

My lab went to an Ultimate Air Dog competition last year for the first time. He'd never been in a pool and was hesitant about jumping in the crystal clear water, but eventually jumped 9 ft.

We live near a bay which is turbid...nothing like a pool, as you can't see bottom. My husband is concerned that if I encourage him to jump in a competition then he might want to do it at our marina. Most marinas, including ours do not have an easy way to get back on land for a dog...no ramp...should they jump off the dock.

So, in the end, I've not pursued going to another competition because I'm afraid he might want to jump off the dock at our marina.

Any thoughts?

Any way to build a ramp? I took Bella and Mari to a dock the other day that had a ramp built in for the dogs.

I suppose you could always train him not to do it at home but i think I would find that difficult.

Sally will jump off any dock anywhere.....no matter if it's clear pool water, muddy pond water, darker lake water, a competition, trip to the lake, stopping at marina for gas. She is addicted to dock jumping!

We have to keep her on a leash when we're at the marina or she'd be in off that dock and in the water in a heartbeat. And other than it being difficult to get her back out of the water, I don't want her in marina water because of all the boats being there and the "gas stuff" they give off in the water. It always looks really toxic to me.
