Lucas, our seven month old Lab has been eating Cannidae and I was 100% sure that it was agreeing with him. I bought a small bag of Wellness puppy food to try but before I buy a large quanity I thought I could get a few opinions! Has anyone had good luck with Sensible Choice, Royal Cannin for Labs or Wellness? Does more$4 always mean better quality?
Does anyone ever switch their dogs food around so they are not eating the same thing everyday? Just a thought!
:confused:

Most premium brands seem to basically have all the same ingredients as each other. Unfortunately, the better the ingredients the more the price. You can research and price all the brands you like and find the one you feel your dog likes, does well on and is feasible for your budget. And it's easier if your dog doesn't have an dietary restrictions like allergies.
We have switched brands over the years, but we feed the same food daily.
Our choice is Kirkland's Lamb and Rice, which is sold at Costo, but made by Diamond. $16.99 for a 40# bag. I also like Wellness and Solid Gold, but when feeding 2, I opted for the best food for the best value and was happy with Kirkland.

Absolutely not!!! The best food is the one that your dog does the best on, no matter what.
I fed Canidae and my dogs did horrid on it. I tried Wellness and the gas was enough to kill us. Thankfully it was during the summer and I could open the windows. I tried Innova and my dogs itched and had bad yeast infections in their ears.
Though I felt horribly guilty, I tried Kirkland L & R. I was a horrible dog mom to even *think* about trying a food that only cost $15 for 40#! Well let me tell you, that food did the trick and my dogs did really well on it.

How much Kirkland L&R would you feed a 7 month old? I know the don't have puppy formula.

We have both of our dogs on Wellness Super-5. They do get HORRIBLE gas sometimes, but not enought to make us consider switching foods.
I am very lucky in that I am able to get the 30# bag for @25.00 (that is a major bargain). Wellness is made by Old Mother Hubbard and the company is very close to where I live. I can purchase ripped bags for that reduced price.
I think you'll find that many people on this board have tried a few different foods before they've settled on one.
Good luck!!!!!

I think you can follow the guide on the bag...it's all based on age/weight. My guess is that you'll probably feed about 3 cups daily.
We switched our girl to adult food at 7 months. It should be fine.

We've been feeding Caly Solid Gold food since she was a puppy. When she was very, very young we tried practically every brand of food known to man and none of them agreed with her. Science Diet makes her barf..others gave her the runs. I didn't think we'd ever find a food she could eat! Then a friend of mine who went through the same thing with their Golden Retriever pup told me about Solid Gold so I gave it a try. Thank goodness..Caly LOVES it..and it's never given her tummy any trouble at all. You can't buy it in a store in a lot of locations...you have to find a local dealer and they actually deliver it right to your door. It's priced roughly the same as Science Diet..I pay $34.95 for a 33 pound bag. It's an 'all natural' food. If anybody is interested..here's a link to their website;
