View Full Version : Coweta story--with a happy ending

Hello,

Some people here are already familiar with the shelter at Newnan, GA,
Coweta Co. Animal Control, since many of the labs there get posted on this forum. New shelter regulations have made it nearly impossible to get labs out in time, even with rescue waiting. We have lost some beautiful, healthy, wonderful labbies--and rescuers have been so discouraged that many refuse to deal with Coweta at all anymore.

After having my heart broken one too many times, I refused, too. Until
last week when 2 friends asked me to contact rescues for 3 special lab puppies--status very urgent. Joe Maringo of SPARRO responded. Today
he picked them up in GA and headed back to Plum, PA. Those 3 little
lab girls will never know how lucky they are!

I'd like to raise sponsorship funds for the 3 puppies, and my goal is to
send Joe $100 per puppy to help cover his expenses, or a total of $300.
He drove all the way himself--nearly 1500 miles round-trip--and incurred expenses for vetting and boarding prior to transport.

Joe's willingness to make the trip is the only reason those 3 labs are
alive today. I know they're going to find wonderful homes and will
make some people very very happy. Please support SPARRO so Joe
can keep on supporting the labs! Donations of any amount are welcome.

Please send donations directly to:
Southwest Pennsylvania Retriever Rescue Organization
142 Stark Drive
Plum, PA 15239
or paypal to jobarlabs@adelphia.net marked for "Coweta Labs".
SPARRO is a 501c3 recognized nonprofit corporation.

Thanks very much.
Jeanne

P.S. Please forgive me if my post violates forum rules. I would normally
ask for sponsorship over on the Saving GA Dogs forum, but, sadly, they
still don't want to have anything to do with Coweta, so I can't.

How are you and the pups doing, Joe?

Jeanne, thank you so much for the kind words, and even more for saving those pups. Honestly, when I received your email just a few hours before their euth time I never thought we would have a chance to save them. Sometimes everything just falls into place, and that was a good thing for these pups. So far they have been a joy to have around. Here is the latest info.

I would like you to meet Maggy, Abbey and Dixie. The three little girls I drove to Atlanta for last weekend. This was the trip I got to stop and meet Jim, Nancy and Katie on.

Maggy is the "tweener" She is half way between the other two in personality. She likes to be petted, but is also a little shy. She don't run away like Dixie, but she is not sure about the entire human contact thing. She is coming around though. Maggy is going to need a little work because she is the most food driven of the bunch and will chase the others away from their food. We will have to put a stop to that before it becomes a problem for her.

Abbey (ala Abbeygirl) When I first saw her she was sitting just like Susan's beautiful Abbey and looking at me as if to say "What took you so long?" She is the friendliest of the three and the most snuggly, just like I would expect an Abbey to be.

Dixie is the smallest, the shyest and the spunkiest of the bunch. She knows she wants to be petted, but she just runs in, gets a quick petting and then runs back a few feet where it is safe. She is a bit bossy with her sisters and is the first to bark when a stranger or a dog is in the yard.

Their crate training is starting tonight. I am sure it is the first time they have been apart, so I don't expect to get much sleep.

What a great tribute to Abbey. I did not have the honor of meeting her, but I feel like I know her through Susan's stories. She was a very special lady and I have no doubt this Abbey will be as loved as Susan's. Thank you Joe for another amazing rescue :)

I'm working on your package :D

Jeanne and Joe,

Thank you for all that you and others did to save these three special girls. The moment Jeanne's and Joe's resolve turned to helping these girls, their luck changed.

I am beyond words moved that our sweet Abbey has been remembered and honored by naming the one pup Abbey. :tissue: I see Abbey in her too; part sweet; part mischief; 100% lab in spirit. :ton: I frequently called Abbey "Abbey girl" as a term of endearment or affection, hence my screen name.

I am so happy to see another Abbey girl! Hey there sweetie!!

Joe, a donation, however humble, is in the mail today. Thank you for ALL that you do!!

Susan, R., and in loving memory ~ Abbey

Joe is their Angel.

JPrine you have NO IDEA how nervous I was that day trying to reach you to tell you details!!

I would love to contribute, but between July and Oct. of this year I have sent Hundreds of Dollars to rescue dogs from High Kill Shelters. Sylvia is one of the dogs and she, too, was from Georgia.

And the story continues to get better. Abbie was adopted last night by a wonderful, loving family. Her new mom works in a Psych. Hospital and is planning to train Abbie as a therapy dog and take her to work with her every day. For a dog that loves people so much, this will be like heaven!

Another family coming to see Dixie tomorrow afternoon:D
