Agreed! Maybe we should start planning something in October or late Sept? We should maybe find a place closer to downtown Dallas instead of the Plano area so it's more centrally located. I'm open for suggestions! :)

As luck would have it, I have a suggestion! It's a "non-traditional" type place for a Labfest, but I've taken Shadow there, and everyone has had a good time. It is a bar (that serves the best dang burger in Dallas, IMHO), called Lee Harvey's. It has a fenced in yard with picnic tables, and on weekend afternoons and evenings, they have "Dog Day Afternoons" where dogs are welcome. It's down near the new Gilley's just south of downtown Dallas. I've attached a picture, and you can check out more info on their website

Depending on what job I get, I may be in the Dallas area for this. If I am, I wouldn't have Max, because he will still be in CA with his Daddy for a little while. Would I be welcome without my pup?

Can anyone come? It sounds like fun and my 1 1/2 yr old needs some socializing. If that place does not work out we could always meet at a lake like Joe Pool or Grapevine.

Jenn, you are welcome to join. It looks like several folks have at least tentatively planned to come. My plans just fell through so I can come to Lee Harvey's. Let's poll everyone:

Off to run errands. It's the only sane time this weekend to do so.

Lee Harvey's on the 21st, it is!

Here's a blurb about "The Big Guns", the band that is playing that night.

"The Dallas area band, The Big Guns, live in the place where surf music meets spaghetti western soundtrack (Think the Ventures meet the High Plains Drifter). Their latest CD entitled "Revenge of the Big Guns (From the Film of the Same Title)" proves them to be masters of the genre.

"Augmenting the traditional surf sound with more modern guitar tones and gritty, crunchy, grinding distortion reminiscent of Los Strait Jackets, The Big Guns offer compositions that are imaginative and authentic sounding, remaining true to form without undo pastiche. From the rough and tumble kick-off track, "Move It," these hombres ride dustily into town and menacingly demand "Which way to the beach?"

As the governing body we should probably look into this ;) . Hmmm, maybe we should call the labless get togethers "Lab Owner Fests", or "Ownerfests", or occasionally "Feast Fests" if mexican is on the agenda. :D

I'm pondering bringing Corndog. Depends on two things. One, how he's feeling. Two, if I read Lee Harvey's web site correctly they only allow dogs on Sunday afternoons. Could someone confirm/refute that? If' it's true I will leave him at home.

I have taken Shadow on Saturday, because at one point (maybe summer hours?) the website did list Dog Day Afternoons as being on both weekend days. It seems they're booking more bands for Saturday now. I saw Naked Lunch (a Steely Dan tribute band...excellent, by the way) a few weeks ago, and there was a very big crowd for them. I guess I understand why they don't have the welcome mat rolled out for dogs when the bands are booked.

I'm game for anything, I suggested Lee Harvey's as a cool alternative to a dog park. If it's just going to be an "OwnerFest", then there are probably better places than Lee Harvey's.:2cents:

Well, I'm sorry we missed Naked Lunch because we are MAJOR Steely Dan fans. I'm up for Lee Harvey's but we should probably call to verify that the dogs are welcome if we plan to go there on Saturday evening.

Well, I called and only got a voice recording. With how the recording worded it, I think you guys are right and dogs are only allowed on sunday evenings :(

I guess really we need to decide on weather we want to have a labfest or an ownerfest and then decide where to meet. Persoanlly, it doesn't matter to me since my dogs probally wouldn't be comming regardless, or if they did come, they'd only be out a limited amount of time. I do like the general area we were planning on meeting though just because it's a shorter drive then we've normally made for labfest. :)

cantevenmusterupapost

zoeonloanwife
09-27-2006, 10:16 AM
Also, something else to think about. It's getting dark here by 7:30 so do we want to have a labfest (as opposed to an owner fest) that late at night.

cantevenmusterupapost
09-27-2006, 10:21 AM
On a saturday night up there, I would prefer an Ownerfest. I have some friends up there who would LOVE for me to stay and party with them... lol I don't think the boys would be welcome at the night club.

If it is an afternoon thing, I am fine with bringing them.

Mr Kleb
09-27-2006, 03:27 PM
The more I think about it the more I realize leaving evefyone home will be best. Corndog likely won't be up to it and I don't want to confine either or both of the other two all day Saturday.

Yes, we need to make some plans! We are so displaced that it really won't matter to us. Kathy asked me for some info about where to stay so I need to get her some info too. Glenna, I think it would be best to recommend a hotel on your side of town so she can get out of town quickly the next day. Please PM me some thoughts!

Mr Kleb
10-04-2006, 08:50 PM
Stick with the original plan? Labownerfest at Lee Harvey's at 7 or 7:30, try to not sit too near the band so we can visit? We might want a fallback plan if it's raining and can't sit outside.

If it helps I'm staying at a hotel between downtown and the river . . . can't find the info right offhand, let me dig for it.

That might be good, Andrew. I worry about Kathy being by herself in that part of town, so if she could stay at the same place I would feel more comfortable.

Lee Harvey's at 7 sounds good to me. No dogs this time I guess, but we'll plan an actual "Lab"fest soon! Yes, let's have a backup plan in case the weather isn't good. Who all can make it that evening??

I just PM'd Kathy to see if she's still considering coming. With everything that's been going on she may have changed her mind, but I'll let you know. I think it's going to be a Labless Labfest, hence an Ownerfest since the rules changed about allowing them on Saturday evenings. I'd like to have an actual Labfest sometime soon though! I will be making babysitter arrangements too--I agree that it is more adult oriented and besides, I don't really like to take the kids in the car if we are going to have a couple of drinks. :)

My hotel is dog friendly, I think there's a $10/night dog deposit. One thing is it may be a hassle to get to from IH-45 South, then back to 45.

She can do that in Red Oak if it's confusing to do it out there. We have a street that we use all the time to go between the 2. It has some red lights, but is 45-55 MPH for the most part.

What: D/FW Metroplex Lab Owners Fest.

When: 7:00PM Saturday October 21 until?

Where: Patio of Lee Harvey's (http://leeharveys.com/pages/about.html), 1807 Gould Street, Dallas. Just southeast of downtown, Google Local map. I love the old war planes! They give me chills watching and hearing them. I really miss working at the airport since there were so many vintage planes that were hangared there and flew in the air shows. Andrew, my grandfather actually survived a crash during WWII of an aircraft in which he was a passenger. I'll have to ask my grandmother about the details since he never talked to me about it--he's been gone since 1999.

The guy at the desk at the hotel rang your room but you didn't answer and I didn't get a voicemail or anything....again, I am so sorry and I hope you aren't "stood up" all the way around. We'll catch you next time.....if we are forgiven by then!
Sorry we missed you guys.

So it was you! I was walking by the front desk and heard my name, stopped, the clerk had already transferred the call. No vmail. I called my dogsitter who said 'Nope I didn't call.' Then I thought it was someone at the workshop. THEN I recalled a thought on the way up Friday, 'Andrew, you should have given someone your cell #.'

I agree with Mike about the band, and the song.

My truck will smell like smoke for days. I sat next to and directly downwind from the fire pot outside the bar.
