I currently feed Tucker Science Diet Large Breed Puppy food - but I don't like it very much (too much poop, and too soft - lots of people mention this, I know). I am thinking of switching to Diamond, but the only place where I live that carries Diamond doesn't have the puppy lamb and rice formula - they have adult lamb and rice or the straight up "puppy" formula. Does anyone feed their pups the adult L&R formula? Tucker is about 4 1/2 months old and weights about 38 lbs.

Thanks for any advice.

We do! :) We did try one small bag of the puppy formula but they just didn't care for it at all. We switched to the adult L&R when they were around 4 months old and they've always done really well on it.

Agree with Christy. Go ahead and switch to adult.

Our pup was started on Science Diet large breed puppy and we didn't like the coat and massive amounts of poop it produced. We had the same problem, no Diamond puppy L & R available. We are compromising for a few months. We are probably near a 60% Diamond (adult) L & R 40% Science Diet Large breed puppy mixture. Our pup is nearly 3 months old. I think we'll probably buy one more 20 lb. bag of the Science diet to mix in and then when it runs out it runs out.
We are seeing a shiny coat/less itching and less poop. I have heard some theories that you should feed lab pups adult food from the start so the don't grow so fast. I guess it's supposed to be better on thier joints. I'm not sure I buy that theory completely but that train of thought is out there.

Thanks for the input. I forgot to mention in my first post that Tucker also has pretty dry skin - we bought a very pricey supplement from our vet last time we were there that seems to be helping, but it costs about $30 for a month's supply (actually, we use half what the vet recommended - 1 tab vs. 2 tabs per day, so the monthly cost is actually only about $15, but still pretty pricey!). So hoping that the Diamond food will help with that, too.

Cody started on Costco Lamb and Rice (made by Diamond) at around 12 weeks. Finally solved his diarrhea problem. Vet said the adult food is fine, there is no need to supplement. He now "goes" about 3 times a day, firm most of the time. He got into his brothers Iams yesterday and had explosive diarrhea at 1 am, so that confirms his sensitivity to the Iams LB Puppy he had been eating. Hope the change solves your problems!
