So now we've been on chicken soup awhile and my one dog has begun chewing his legs most of the time and now I'm thinking its something in the food (maybe the skim milk) Digestion-wise everything's been good lately. Has anyone had any thoughts on Diamond Naturals? It has a simpler ingredient list and the price is good plus it contains beet pulp (he has anal gland problems without beet pulp) Plus it must be similar-- made by the same company.

We use Diamond Naturals Lamb Meal & Rice Adult Dog for our two and they do very well with it!

I just picked up a bag of the chicken & rice. We'll see how it goes. Before I had these dogs, we fed the diamond maintenance for a short while b/c this is what the breeder fed. I didn't know the brand "diamond" at the time and it was hard to find.

I used Diamond naturals chicken and rice. Liked it very well, especiall for the price. Recently switched to Taste of the Wild, which I bought at the same feed store I bought the Diamond. Diamond Naturals is a good food.

we fed them the diamond naturals cold turkey last night (out of the former food entirely) and so far no gas or anything and they like it. Do you think the Taste of the Wild would be good for a senior large breed dog with minor arthritis? Or is it too high in protein?

I think it would be an excellent food for a senior. As with an food, just watch his weight with the arthritis.

well, all is well on the diamond naturals although I think the Chicken soup tasted better to them. I am going to start adding some canned food for flavor now that I see they are digesting well. Down the road we'll probably try taste of the wild. The foot chewing has really calmed down, too

Rather than canned food, maybe consider just putting some flaxseed oil, about a tablespoon and mix it around until all is coated. This gives some extra Omega-3 oil and their coat will shine, and you won't ruin a good food with a crappy canned. Just my $.02.
