I noticed she has a bit of an odor being on CN lamb and now switched over to Acana Grasslands which is grain free lamb as the protein source. Her ear is still red with gunk and i clean it daily and put meds in it. If i miss a few days it's back to being gunky. I dont think it's an allergy as she is in and out of our pool every day i may not be drying it too well. Not sure if the odor is from the lamb or maybe she is allergic to lamb?? Her poops are perfect though...

As much as we like to think a food switch will cure all ills in out pets...

Antibiotics for the ear from your Vet may be the way to go...then once it has cleared up perhaps a new protein source may help keep the infection from returning....

As far as Lamb making the dog smell different.... I think the human nose in some people is better than most... You may be smelling the Lamb and it is unpleasant to you...It does have a different taste which I love... Perhaps that is why I don't notice it or enjoy my pups Lamb breath ;)

I have three of mine on Calif. Natural Lamb and no smell on them. I have one of my labs that has a tendancy to get yeast in one ear because he has a narrowed ear canal.

You might want to try changing protein sources. I thought that Cash was destined to live with ear infections.. but he hasn't had one now for months. Try switching to something without lamb- it can definitely be an allergen.

Thank you........ I am not about to switch foods again as i just switched from CN lamb to Acana grasslands and all is going great there!!! She has had issues on and off with her ear since the day i brought her home!! Now i think it is from the pool water. She has been on chicken, turkey and fish based foods and still ear issues. I think the only time it seemed to cease was when she was on Orijen but i will wait it out a bit longer. If it's an infection it should go away with meds correct? If its yeast it won't go away and will come back but something is causing the yeast there. Is that correct?? Yesterday it was red/gunk this morning after flushing it and meds it's pink and pretty clean. What does that tell you??

Trishs Pets- Between you and Uplander, I am now starting to think it could be the lamb!!! HERE WE GO AGAIN........But i think i will give it another week then just switch back to my old standby- Orijen.

There has been no significant odor on the eagle pack lamb but 2 years ago when I was feeding nutro ultra there was a terrible lamb smell on G's breath and even her fur seemed to smell.

Yes......it's not a strong smell but it's noticable. My daughter just told me yesterday when she was getting big slobber kisses that her breath smelled....

I used to feed Lamb based Kibble but my dogs would drink water like they were dying of thirst. I even had tests done on them thinking something was wrong. I came to find out that Lamb as a protien source takes longer to digest which made them thirsty. I switched to Sardine and Salmon and the problem was solved. You think the lamb stinks...whew that fish food smells bad :floor

OH i know I have a sample of Wellness core ocean that i just use for treats once in a while and it stinks. I think i will throw it out. I have it in her cookie jar. Actually her cookie jar is a mixture of all sample bags of foods. SO everyday she gets a different treat!!

Toby eats lamb based diets all the time (California Natural and Eagle Pack Holistic) and I have never noticed a smell on him at all.
