View Full Version : how do they greet you?
Mom2Hershey 09-26-2003, 07:37 AM When I get home from work I am readily greeted by Gusty and Jack..they look like bunnies :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: actually jumping in the kitchen behind the baby gate! Then one at a time, they let out this :shout: weird yawn/yell combo like "yyaahooo she's home"...we want to be free!
Just wondering if anyone's fury friends have a unique way of greeting them?!!!
(though anyway is a great way)
brawnwyn 09-26-2003, 08:56 AM Soxey dances on her hind legs, in a circle, like those poodles you always see on TV. For some reason, it's funnier when the dog weighs 40 lbs.
Lorne gives bear hugs. She's always done this too. She'll come up to you and when you bend down to love on her, she'll put both front paws around your neck and snuggle her nose into your throat.
That's my favorite.

jackyscott 09-26-2003, 03:30 PM Since Georgia has free roam of the house she greets me at the door - I can see her through the glass and she's doing the wiggle butt, then she kind of dances with a little jump, but not on you, then I let Zeus out of the crate and he jumps and jumps and jumps. I've learned to step out of the way so he's never realy jumping on me. "Down" is a frequently used word at our house. Then we race to the back door so they can get out to go potty.
soapy 09-26-2003, 03:34 PM My husband gets jealous because when Bailey sees me he starts jumping up on the gate and onto my leg. Even though I tell him not to. When he sees my husband he just sits there wagging his tail. I think it's because my husband is more firm with his commands and Bailey only seems to correct his behaviour when you raise your voice. Otherwise he'll continue. I don't like yelling at him so I don't, but he does like to nip and jump on me :p:

Jazz does that too! It's like this "yaroooooah" thing, it's hilarious! She is always stretching, butt up in the air, when she does it, too...
Neonshrk 09-30-2003, 01:19 PM Anubis will run to the door and and just wiggle wag like crazy. Akasha will yipe, bark, do circles down the hall, butt tuck, whine, and will not stop until I take my hat off and let her lick my whole head! She is a nut! When she is done licking she plops right down into my lapwhere she paws me to pet and rub her belly! I love her to death!:D
MISS LISA 10-01-2003, 03:45 PM We have hardwood floors throughout the house, and so its funny, whenever they hear the jingle of the keys in the door, you hear em take off from the back door ripping thru the house, slipping and sliding everywhere until they reach you and half the time they can't stop so they end up sliding right into your feet or the wall right nex to you. It's pretty funny , I love how they are always so happy to see you come home.

:funny: lol....sounds like my household except the roles are reversed....Chico greets me with a toy in mouth and runs around between my legs while I reach and pet his ever growing waist...
( I think he has a tickelish spot where when I tickle him, he wants to kick back like a mule would....but comes back for more...)....I have to make sure I put down my duffle bag, cell phone and have my glasses off....just in case of a head butt... :D
funnygirl 10-05-2003, 11:56 PM Everyday, as if on cue, Annie is waiting by the door...exactly where I left her. I walk in, she jumps up on her front feet like they have springs....she has learned not to jump up on people, but does the springs in her front feet to oblige her need to do so. She then runs to the back door, back to me with springs in her feet. I let her out, she does her business and then runs back to me, gives me her labby hugs and kisses and then is ready to play retrieve with me hitting her tennis balls with my tennis racquet. We do this for about five minutes, I come in, change my clothes, the cats get treats and then it is major playtime, Molly, her sister comes over from next door and they play for about two hours.
Very fun, I can't WAIT to come home every day and the routine never changes.
ClintDavis 10-08-2003, 03:11 PM I put Ali in a kennel outside while I am at work. When I come home and open the gate she runs through the yard and then comes straight back to me and sits down. She waits until I put her collar back on and then takes off again to go potty
Cappy_TX 10-08-2003, 03:47 PM I'm still wiping tears of laughter away from a few of the replies so far. Cappy, my yellar dawg, meets me with a furious "wiggle butt" and a light nibbling at my hand as he walks to the door with me from wherever he came to greet me when let outside.
But here's what I really want to know. How in the world do some of these dawgs seem to know a few minutes before we get home (at varying times of the evening) before we are even within earshot of the house. I find that really spooky! My Mother-in-law contends she can tell 2-3 minutes before my wife and I pull up in the driveway by the two dawgs running to the back door with tails wagging.
JSpired 10-08-2003, 07:58 PM Wow, those are some great replies, almost all of which had me either laughing or shaking my head in agreement.
Chance, my close to five month old Chocolate Lab, does a little 'happy dance' around me until I look at him. Then he sits down and practically wets himself waiting for a pat on the head.
Runty, our five year old German Shepherd (who long ago outgrew his name), grabs something in his mouth and races around the house. Generally, he grabs something dog-friendly (toy, bone, etc.), but today he picked up the remote control for the TV. He then comes and runs between your legs once or twice before dropping the item and sitting at your feet.

Jim...is true what you said..even months after I left Peru at 7 my dog ( a Benji breed...mutt) would wait for me every day after school, so my grandmother wrote to me then....she said he died of sadness..oh well here I go again thinking back and getting melancholic....anyway Chico is the same way....:D
Kahlua 10-10-2003, 03:33 PM Oh man!! When I get home and let Kahlua out of her crate, she is such a wiggly worm!!! She tries to jump and she licks, licks, licks!! My legs get a beating from her un-stoppable tail going a hundred wags a minute!! LOL Needless to say- she is so excited to see me. :) I just love it!!
HunterBoozer 10-11-2003, 09:06 PM Hunter is waiting by the door and the second I open it, he's off running to find his rope, tennis ball, nylabone, anything he can get in to his mouth (sometimes more than 1 thing at a time), then its tail wagging, butt shaking, pet me, pet me, let me run around the table, oh please mom, sit on the couch for a couple of minutes so I can act like a cat and rub against you while you pet me oh look, take me to the back door, please can we go play outside now??????? :bounce: PLEASE............... I'm such a good boy. Ok, I'll just follow you around for now.....
The second I do sit on the couch, all 73 lbs of him collapses on me (still thinks he's a lap dog) and tries to snuggle even closer - don't forget my kisses mom, I missed you all day......:)
R&R's Mum 10-13-2003, 10:17 PM These are hysterical!
Rhys hears the car pull in the drive way, and, from the couch barks at me. When I do come in the door, he drags himself off the couch (Literally - front feet down, butt end still up there, stretching, and making the stretching sound) as if I have disturbed him, and then grabs the milk bone canister, drags it to the door, and barks right at me.
Ryan, who is still crated, hears all of this and is beginning to sound like a Mexican Jumping Bean in one of those little plastic containers (She has bounced it up in the air, on occasion). When I let her out, she is all shakes and wiggles and whimpering, as though she never thought I would get home.
Then she runs outside to potty, while Rhys resumes his place on the couch.
Cappy_TX 10-14-2003, 11:30 AM Hunter ... you have perfectly described one of the most endearing attributes of a Labrador Retriever. Nice job! :p:
staciecd 10-14-2003, 01:12 PM Diesel, my black lab, runs over to me and likes to go between my legs while I scratch his hips and legs. He'll keep going though legs and almost knocks me down. I also become a human towel to wipe the sleep away.
Stacie
bitsycasey 10-31-2003, 04:52 PM :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: That's my greeting!
Bruno would greet me at the door and his tail would be banging against the washing machine. Once I stepped in the door he would need to get something in his mouth. One night his favourite toy was under his blanket, I bent down to get it for him the same time he went for it, his hard, old head connected just below my eye. First time I've ever seen stars, thought I was going to pass out. I couldn't help laughing about it. How do you explain a black eye from your dog? I think there is still a little lump under the eye, 10 months later. Took almost 2 weeks to get my normal colour back. It was sooo pretty and everyone had a good laugh at work.
Henneberry 11-01-2003, 11:00 PM They jump up and down with their front feet on the gate..wagging their tails. They look like Yo-Yo's..Sonny & Cher alternate in their jumping, trying to jump higher than the other.
Kwinon 11-01-2003, 11:30 PM Ruffy sits! It's the best & most successful thing we ever taught him.
He still WANTS to jump up & knock me down, but he dials it down & plops his butt on the floor, simply vibrating with excitement.
I get face level with him, & he slurpy lurks all the make-up off my face. Then I say, "Let's get ready," & he knows we're going for a walk!
Quincy's Girl 11-02-2003, 09:36 AM As soon as I walk through the door if noone's home, I can hear Quincy's tail going, banging against his crate. I walk up to the crate, he's doing the wiggle butt and giving me that cute Quincy "love on me" look. When I let him out, he snuggles against my legs. When I start petting him, he plops down on his back with his legs straight up in the air.
How could you not love on him???

Mr Kleb 11-02-2003, 03:06 PM I'm greeted in different ways.
Moonpie will sometimes be a leapin' lizard. I will see her through the window, upanddown, upanddown. Sometimes she will not leap, but greet me at the door with a toy. She ALWAYS does the butt wag. 'Happy! Happy! Daddy's home!'
As for Avis I sometimes see her looking through the living room window, and sometimes she greets me from her bed. Once I came home from work and she wasn't in the living room - very unusual. I walked out to the backyard (there's a dog door) and saw a black puddle in a sunny patch of yard. I called 'Avis' - no response. I thought 'Oh s**t, not yet please.' I called again and she stirred, opened an eye, looked at me, got up and shook, and sauntered over to me. The gallon of adrenalin dumped into my system a moment previously had somewhat dissipated by then.
ChikadeeLab 11-02-2003, 10:59 PM I am greeted by Trakker whining and crying and barking at me from inside her crate. I let her out and she follows me around whining, and she runs out, goes potty and comes running back to me and the second I sit down, she's on my lap licking my face like she hasn't seen me in years.
And usually its only been 3 hours, Lol.
On days that I work and the rest of the family is home, she just greets me at the door and follows me around the house with one of her toys. Then we work on sit, down, and recently, stay for about 15 minutes and then go for a long walk in the woods. ^_^
Pariah 11-08-2003, 10:58 AM Mocha will do the wiggle butt as well when she sees me coming in after work. Connor just jumps up on me, but I'm trying to teach him to not do that with the "off" command. Apparently, he's too excited to remember what I had just told him since he does it almost every time.
