I have been feeding Carmel Diamond large breed puppy food. He is 8 months old. My new trainer said I should take him off because it has too many nutrients and move to diamond adult food. I am a little hesitant because my vet said puppy foo dfor a year. My dog is not a pure bread he is lab/ Viszla mix if this makes a difference and 45lb. he has not gained weight in a month.
When did you switch?
Thanks
Mike

We switched at 14 weeks due to food intolerance. Cody has done great on adult food. Maybe you could split the difference with the trainer/vet and change at 10 months. Do Vizlas have joint problems as a breed? That is the main reason large breeds are fed adult food as puppies, so they don't grow too fast.

I think Hunter is also a Lab-Viszla mix. We switched him when he was one. Come to think of it, he was also having a weight problem: too skinny.
Do you have a pic of your dog?

My breeder sends out a feeding guide with her dogs... and she recommends switching to adult food by 6 months. So I would switch him!!
Oliver is 8 1/2 months old and 80 pounds. We switched him to adult food at 8 months and he is doing great.

I was wondering the same thing about Hunter...He's 9 months and still on large breed puppy food...Maybe it's time to switch to adult food?????????

Moose is 5 months old. He's been on adult food for about 2 weeks now.
