This past weekend Jubilee and I made the drive up to Jacksonville to catch up with *** and try our hand again at dock diving. This was our second "competition" with the first being last year at this event. We got to meet up with Nancy and Sally (ChocolateDawg) and we had a blast over a BEAUTIFUL weekend. Jubilee's best jump last year was a 16'6". This year, with no practice in since last year, Jubilee put up TWO 19'10" jumps:eek: AND she got her very first dock diving title! The first day we went with the "chase" as we did last year and she was jumping 16's, 17's and on a perfect throw hit a 19'10". On day two I decided to change it up and take myself out of her equation. I threw her ball out in the water, made sure she locked in on it, took her to the back of the dock, set her up as a flyball dog and let her rip! She would shoot down the dock and fly over the water like superdog lol. She consistently hit 18's and got a 19'2" and her last jump in the finals was a 19'10" again! We got first in Senior class (by default:p:) and fifth overall I think. I wish we could practice because she has the speed and if I could get her some height she would truly fly! Unfortunately, she got cold tail again:(. I did give her a previcox prior to jumping Saturday and one Sunday morning. The cold tail came on slower and went away much faster (she is 90% tonight which is much better than 3-4 days post event). So I do, at this point, believe that prophylaxing does help the condition. I have an "IN" to a neuro vet at UF so I am waiting to hear back about prophylaxing, the condition, risk of permanent damage etc. For now, Jubilee's short dock diving career is "up in the air" as we may call it quits due to her tendency to come down with this condition. Jubilee ran with her old flyball team in a few demos and she even ran the lure course clocking in at 21.5 mph and an average of 16 something. Thanks for letting me tooooooooooooooot lol.:o: Here are some pics. Unfortunately they didn't come out great as other people unfamiliar with my camera took the pics and when I tried to take some Jubilee was trying to rip my other arm off:rolleyes:. Hopefully videos will follow soon!

Super Sally Shots...She is SUCH a cute dog and actually I think she could win a tractor pull if you put a dock at the finish line:D.

Thanks for posting the pics, Andrea. And especially thanks for posting the pics of Sally and her ribbons!:D:D:D

It really was an awesome event and a lot of fun for us. I hope to meet up with you again soon at another event. I, too, wish Jubilee could find a place to practice. Once you started the "place and send" method, Jubilee really kicked it up a notch or two.

Isn't it fun watching your dogs do something they love so much!!!:thumb4:

P.S. Andrea, clear out your PM box. I can't answer you because I get a message saying your box is full!

LOL no problem. Let me know if you need originals. I thought that pic turned out really cute.

Some friends of mine took video so I hope to get my hands on it soon. I don't know how much they took or if they just took Jubilee. I would like to see her on day two. All I know is what her butt looked like as it left the dock rofl.

It is a lot of fun and the people really make these events nice. Everyone is so helpful and while we are all competing noone thinks twice about helping another. That really makes it nice.

ETA I made some room in my PM box. Sorry!

Great Pic's. We were there and really enjoyed watching the event & meeting everybody. Shortbus made his first two jumps! Not sure of his distance, but he did go off by himself!!! Yeah! He was so excited! Now we just have to find a place in N. Fla / S. Ga. to practice. Any suggestions?

From talking to all the Florida people, there aren't any clubs around that area. What I would do is just find myself a dock to practice all by myself. Maybe at a lake or a marina somewhere. It might not be regulation, but Shortbus certainly won't know that! :D

Becareful around unsecure lakes in N.Florida...you never know about the lurking gators.

We have a so called 'pond' behind our house. It's a retention pond that captures all of the water from our streets, along with antifreeze, oil and anything else that may be on the roads...When Daisy (our vanilla) was very young, she went in happy & healthy and come out with a nasty staph infection. I know it is shear torture for my three labs and dane, all who love to swim, to play out back and not be allowed to get their paws muddy.

But the good news is...We have a friend, who has a pond, which has a dock and is willing to let us practice/play anytime we like. Shortbus and the gang will be so excited to get to play and swim.

Mom just needs to do a little more research on jumping---training, technique, rules & regulations, possible injuries, etc. Do you know of any good authors on the subjuct? I have been to sportmutt, dock dogs, ***, georgia air dogs, swfl dock dogs...and many more and have read nearly all of the info on those sites. I like books...they are great for reference and I enjoy sharing them with others who are interested.

Thanks for the help, hopefully we will jumping soon!!!

I don't really train Jubilee for dock diving so unfortunately I am not the person to ask. Maybe Nancy will know. *** has a friendly forum and you could go on there and ask too.
