labracorn 06-27-2005, 09:29 AM We did with our Boomer and will be with Addy. I will be sending in her entry for our club's show at the end of July.
This was the day he won his Cdn. Ch. and he was about 2 1/2yrs old. It was a 3 pt major.

I don't have a good picture of Addy yet but will try for one at class this week.

chocolatelvr 06-27-2005, 05:47 PM Page~ You have two of the most beautiful labs I think I have ever seen!
krisinme 06-27-2005, 06:51 PM I do.
Well I will again after Maddie's injury from a fall on the ice last winter heals completely.

It looks like your Maddie and my Bodhi may be related. Bodhi has Killingsworth on his mom's side.

Cool Jenn! Both Maddie and Hoover are Killingworth. What is the name in your Bodhi's pedigree?
Maddie goes back to Clemmsen many times.
MacLab 06-28-2005, 01:58 AM I do in Japan and like everything else here it's expensive. To enter a major show costs around $100.00 and a minor show is around $80.00. How much to you guys pay in your area?
BellesMom 06-28-2005, 08:34 PM We are doing conformation with Belle. She has done pretty good so far, her first loss was Sunday 6/12 after winning Best of Breed Puppy on Sat.
Go Figure  She lost to a bitch that she has beat in the ring everytime. There was a lot of this from breeders that day  But you can't win them all. This is not the best picture. I am still waiting for the picture we had taken after she won BBP.

Are you looking at entry fees alone or the show expense? If your post above means 100.00 for one dog, one time around the ring I sincerely hope that there is a currency exchange I am unaware of here. Do Japanese shows include things like grooming space and such?
Our shows are typically $20-25 per day per dog. Add grooming space to that if you want to and it's another $10-40, hotels, food & gas. I usually spend a whole stinking butt-load on every show.
MacLab 06-29-2005, 07:26 AM Entry fee per dog!!! (10,000 yen is roughly $100.00.) You get a catalog of the day, a few small dog food samples, a very cheezey gift and sometimes a boxed lunch. That's it. If you want space, then you show up early (the hard core pro handlers with many dogs spend the night in their rigs) and stake it out. If the show is indoors, you have to set up outside. Everyone brings their own generators. Talk about noisey! People set up their exercise pens at ring side. For some odd reason, Mac really hates Corgies. At one show, a whole mess of them were in exercise pens right along the right side of the ring. Mac barked and went nuts everytime we got near them. Of course they were all barking like the little wild dogs they are! I couldn't hear a word the judge said! WOW, $25.00 sounds more like it! I won't even go into the price of gas and hotels here!
PATEX 06-29-2005, 11:03 AM Wow, lots of beauties in this thread!
Say, for those of you who are near enough to come, Heart of Texas Lab Club is having its first specialty on Oct. 28th in Austin! Miah and I would love to see you there!
MacLab 06-29-2005, 02:23 PM A can of beer costs 240 yen, that's around $2.20. One interesting thing is you can buy beer from vending machines located EVERYWHERE!

I'll have to check my calendar but I would love to come. Who's are the judges?
PATEX 06-30-2005, 10:04 AM We lucked out. :)
For regular classes, we got Sally Bell of Borador, and for Sweeps, we got Linda Ciancio of Brooks.
Hey, if you come down here, Page, make sure to get your van checked out first!!!
I am so excited about our first specialty!!!

Will do.
krisinme 06-30-2005, 07:23 PM ohh I just love Specialties. I am totally hooked on them! They really are great! have a great time.
PATEX 07-01-2005, 07:10 AM Page, let me know if you do end up entering the specialty. I'll give you my cell in case something goes wrong and you are within close proximity to me or the show site. We lab boarders have to stick together!
Lab Addict 07-06-2005, 03:59 PM Nice pics everyone.
Patex.....I love Holly!
Kris......does Maddie have any points yet?
This is Teddy.....3.5 years old.

DakotasMom 07-06-2005, 04:04 PM This may be a "duh" question but can you do this after a dog has been altered?
PATEX 07-06-2005, 08:31 PM An altered dog can compete in the Veteran's classes after the age of 7, I believe. These are non-regular classes.
Holly can't compete because she is altered and is 3 and a half. We used to show her, though.
krisinme 07-07-2005, 08:02 PM Nice pics everyone.

No Kristen Not yet but she did have some nice placements and made the cut at the Potomac in a huge class of 38.
Hopefully next fall if her Gimp ever clears up.
Teddy looks lovely!
PATEX 07-08-2005, 07:17 AM Making the cut at Potomac is a big deal, krisinme!
We took Holly back when we lived in Pennsylvania. She took 4th in her Sweeps class on the first day (I think there were 17 dogs), but didn't make the cut in her huge regular class the next day. She didn't really start to look her best until after she got down here, and then we had to spay her.
It's a 24 hour drive from here, and if Miah really starts to look mature by next spring, I may make that trip. Potomac is great -- just one gorgeous lab after another!
CanyonLabradors 07-10-2005, 05:57 PM Grace is the show pick from her litter and we hope to start showing her in the fall. She'll be shown in our club's BOB Match in October, and hopefully we can put her in some puppy classes starting November!
Here she is in one of her first stacks!

PATEX 07-11-2005, 09:16 AM Oh, Grace, you are a pretty little puppy!
We have a lot of lovely dogs here, and I'm looking forward to hearing all of your brags!
CanyonLabradors 07-13-2005, 10:20 PM We're going to show Grace...hopefully she has what it takes!
Boochky 07-14-2005, 10:39 AM All the dogs I've seen posted are just beautiful.
Hogan shows in conformation. He's done so well winning his puppy classes. He's even taken Reserve Winners Dog three times. But to date, not one point! Oh well - maybe this weekend. He'll be showing in a new class this time. His breeder (who is handles Hogan along with his daughter) is putting him in Bred-By-Exhibitor this time so let's see how that goes. From what I understand, if a dog wins finishes with all of his point coming from BBE, they get an automatic lifetime invitation to the Eukanuba show.
Wish us luck!!
Here's Hogan taking a Reserve when he was 7 months old (he's 11 months now).

WigWag 07-18-2005, 06:48 PM I've shown some but was more heavily involved in field work when I first started and hope to get my puppy girl out for her JH next spring. She really has drive like her dad and maybe after a litter she will mature and I can show her - we shall see. I know am overly critical of my dogs. I have a 3 year old daughter so that makes showing and competing difficult now.
My big black baby boy HATES to show and he was the first dog I ever showed and despite his lack of attitude and my bumbling handling he did have some nice puppy placements at specialties and was RWD under a few breeder/judges. Maybe I will get him out as a veteran ....

PATEX 07-19-2005, 10:08 AM Two new good-looking additions to our little thread!
Wigwag, glad to hear that you like to work them, too! I know how it is -- I don't know how people find the time to campaign their dogs, let alone campaign AND do hunt tests. We hope to get a JH with the girl we had to spay because she does seem to enjoy field work. The other one does, too, but one thing at a time!!!
McBainandLoki'sMom 07-21-2005, 12:47 PM I'm going to show my Vizsla pup when he's old enough (he's 4 months old now). I'm starting handling classes next week.
Any tips? :)
PATEX 07-21-2005, 03:07 PM Not from me -- I might be the world's worst handler. I showed Holly facing the wrong way on a hill at Jersey Skylands one year. Another time, I lost her lead in the ring. I went forward, the lead when forward, and Holly sat down. Off it popped! My final act was to FORGET to allow the judge to go over Miah. I just get too flustered! At that point, I threw up my arms and QUIT trying to handle. I will tell you this. You've probably taught your pup some basic obedience. DO NOT make "sit" the primary thing you reward. Make him do "stand" A LOT. Have him stand for all of his meals. Sit is the number one thing they have you do in obedience, and you don't want your dog to sit in the ring. Holly would look at us and think, "Mom/Dad has food. I want the food. What do I have to do? Well, sit always works!" She's one of those dogs who will offer every behavior known to man to get that food, so if she isn't being fed CONSTANTLY for standing, she will start trying other things.
blunder 08-01-2005, 12:04 AM <<~ is retired from showing, my daughter does all the conformation handling now. I think I could wallpaper the bathroom with Blunders purple & white ribbons :harp:
Right now we have four titled Beagles to contend with (and two pregnant bitches) plus a couple of hot shot youngsters, so we spend a lot of time at the shows. Hope to meet up with some of you sometime.

Dostafflabs 08-02-2005, 12:27 PM I've just recently gotten into the conformation part of showing!!! I look forward to going to some specialties with Page, just as a spectator though!! My Brandy girl wouldn't stand a chance against those wonderful labs!!
Sorry about the sig pic. My camera has been on the poops and I haven't gotten a great pic of her. She's about 17 months in this pic.
OH, forgot to mention.... We did get our UKC Ch on her at their Premier this year! Now I'm going to focus on some hunting titles as well as obedience. Then, well bring her back out for some AKC shows :)
Dostafflabs 08-02-2005, 12:29 PM Oh, forgot to mention. Sharon I JUST LOVE Clint!!!!
Keno's Mom 08-02-2005, 01:53 PM I was under the impression that NO altered dogs could show in competition for breed - you could show in obedience or agility but not comformation classes - can someone clarify?
PATEX 08-02-2005, 02:24 PM You can't show in regular classes, but you can show an altered dog in Veterans, which is a special class, provided that the dog is old enough.

Hey girl!
Nice to see ya. :)
Boochky 08-09-2005, 07:17 PM Just to update that Hogan took his class on Sunday (first time in Bred-By). He didn't get Winners Dog but I think I was just as happy that he won in a class with some VERY stiff competition. I think once he fills out some he'll be much more competitive.
locke 08-16-2005, 08:09 PM Its been a while, but we do on occasion. We spend most of our time afield.
