I know that Canidae is suppose to be very good, but it is not sold in my area. I have a lot of dogs and it would be very difficult to have enough shipped to me. I would love to hear what others feel is a good quality food for all stages, because I have puppies on up through a 16 year old Golden Retriever.I am looking to make a change, but I want to know that I am going to something better than what I currently feed. Right now I feed Pro Plan. I have one dog (chocolate lab) that I am showing, and I think he needs some more bulk on him. What do others do to achieve this?

We feed Nutro Natural Lamb & Rice to our girls. They're doing just fine on it.

Didn't I hear that Nutro had changed a lot of their ingredients? Or am I confused?

Nutro Lamb and Rice for Tully. His skin looks great as does his build. He does seem to have runny stools from time to time, though.

They also get salmon, sardines, bananas, pumpkin, plain yogurt and strawberries in addition to as much water as they want.

As you will see by reading all the threads on this topic, there is a lot of opinion. Read your labels, do your research and make the best decision for you and your dog. Keep your sanity and good luck! ;)

I feed my oldsters Diamond Senior. The rest get Kirkland C & R or Kirkland L & R.

Feeding Diamond Lamb and Rice right now....will probably switch it to the Kirkland Lamb and Rice in the future, as that is a little cheaper, ingredients are almost identical, and PetsSupplyPlus inventory quantities are iffy.

Sandy is currently on the Chicken Soup food also (for adults). My other two dogs are on Diamond Premium Adult - I know some would say this isn't a good food, but when its the ONLY food these two dogs will eat and its the ONLY food they do so wonderfully on, I don't hesitate to feed it!!

Here's a list of some quality foods, it certainly doesn't contain them all, but its a good list to start with: Innova, HealthWise, California Natural, Canidae, Eagle Pack, Evolve, Natural Balance, Natural Blend, PetGuard, Pinnacle, Precise, Premium Edge, Royal Canin, Sensible Choice, ShowBound Naturals, Solid Gold, Timberwolf Organics, Wellness, Azmira, Life's Abundance, Blackwoods, Fromm's, Exceed. There are many many more good foods, I just can't think of any more. I know Nutro seems to be quite the popular food, but I'd only consider this to be an OK food.

I feed Old Mother Hubbard Senior and Super 5 Chicken and sometimes Fish and Sweet Potatoe. They love it

My two get Innova. I switched from Eukanuba about 4 months ago and have seen a big difference. I also feed them some fresh salmon and occasionally some green beans. They get baby carrots as a snack too!:D

What type of changes? I am currently using Eukanuba and my

I've changed to Wellness Puppy dry and Wellness Whitefish canned. Pups got real dry flaky skin on Canidae. Solid Gold is a great dog and puppy food. It just got tooo expensive feeding two pups on. Wellness matches up pretty good and the pups love it. So do my cats!! If I had the time I would feed homemade meals to at least suppliment good kibble. Mother Hubbard makes Wellness. Innova is a great dog food too. We don't have that one here. I use to use Nutro Lamb and Rice. I used it for years with my kennel until the dogs started covering it up with the kennel shavings. :laugh: Start off with a good brand that is as close to natural and if your pup does well on it....stay with it.

Premium Edge C&R for my older dog and Premium Edge Large Breed lamb and rice for my puppy.

I use the Diamond Maintenance which I heard and seems to be good food (and inexpensive too!) with Drs. Foster & SMith Lamb & Brown Rice as a change every now and then - the Drs Foster & SMith is expensive so I use it just to give them a little taste change very now and then. They both seem fine on these foods.

My dogs are on a partial kibble diet (Canidae or Innova) and partial BARF (bones and raw foods) diet. (If we were more organized, we'd probably go total BARF.) Our cat is also on a partial kibble/BARF diet.
For example, their morning meal might be kibble with a raw egg or veggie/meat slop mixed in. (raw veggies, pumpkin, livers, hearts, gizzards... all mixed in a blender, pre-made about once a week so it's ready.)
Their evening meal might be a couple of raw chicken legs or wings, bones and all.
