What exactly does that Mean? If you send x amount of dollars, they won't euthanize the animal? I thought i seen on another post that they send 150.00 to prevent this from happening and they killed the dog anyway? I am confused...I thought that they don't really euthanize cause the shelters dont have the money, I thought they did it to make room? What is the criteria and do all shelters euthanize?

Sponsoring can vary from shelters and Rescues;
Some shelters will accept sponsorhip to help make
the dog more adoptable - meaning that a person
contacted the shelter & asked if they would accept
sponsorship & fully asked the terms involved being
how much $ and how long will they or can they
even hold the dog, they usually charge for shots/vaccinations,
Heartworm testing, Rabbies (some you have to ask them too)
and fecal tests for other worms. Spaying or neutering.
And sometimes it will cover an adoption fee and or a Rescue pull fee too.
If the dog you just sponsored from the shelter
has any indications of problems from the
tests such as Heartworm + then they are most likely going
to ask you if you are going to pay to treat, Costs
thru out different areas range
from $200.00 $500.00 for HW treatment.
Now sometimes you can find a dog that
maybe doesn't need anything but paying the adoption fee,
but that is sometimes slim. If you sponsor from a shelter,
you have to have a plan for it to go somewhere, usually
a Rescue, it is best to go thru a Rescue first & ask them if
they need help sponsoring if they are going to pull a dog,
Note that Rescues pull dogs that they have already a plan
for it to go somewhere. Or you can ask a Rescue if you
can sponsor 1 of their dogs that are in foster & need to
be spayed or netured or whatever they need or if you
want to pay the adoption fee. That way you know what
you are dealing with the dog when you sponsor a Rescue dog.
The shelter you referenced & asked why did they
euthanize if they had the money given for the 2 dogs,
I think they were pledged, & no one could step up for
the dogs & get them out of there, no one adopted
& no rescues came to get them, as that shelter is as many
are, Animal Control regulated, they won't & can't hold
the dogs. And euthanizatin is not in many places
nice & humane the way it is for our beloved pets,
The 2 that just died that was probably a gassing shelter,
it is a horrible thought.
Do you see what I mean now by there has to be a
plan first & going thru a Rescue 1st means there is a
plan for the dog for safety.

At our pound we have sponsorship...
It is 65.00 a dog This is the adoption fee. The dog will go to the vet get fixed shots and health papers.
We have as many as 10sponsors at a time. We do not put the dog to sleep seeing all the money in it. After the dog is sponsored and has been to the vet we work with a lot of rescues we call them up and tell them what we have and most of the time the dog leaves withen a week of being fixed sometimes we have to keep the dog longer but we have foster moms that keep sponsored dogs. Since we have done sponorship our adoption/rescue rate has increased 17% which is well for only being a year.
We do sponsorship cause many times we have people that cannot adopt a dog or are just to far a way and this allows them to help in another way and it works out great for us cause the dog finds a home...
