4 cups oats
1 cup cornmeal
1.25 cups whole wheat flour
1\2 cup millet or soy flour
1 cup cooked brown rice
enough broth to make a thick batter, hint: a strong veggie broth makes a nice change.
Combine all ingredients, add broth to make a thick batter pour into shallow pan. Bake in 320 degree oven for about 1 hr. crumble and keep leftovers in fridge. Sometimes I sprinkle on a little olive oil for that soft coat.
Please let me know what you think!

Sorry, don't like it at all. It's all grains. Wheat and soy in particular are badly tolerated by many dogs.
I don't mean to offend, but dogs need meat.

where's the beef?
i've gotta go with zen on this one. my dogs eat occasional grains, but they do need meat as the basis of their diets.

something like this might make a good biscuit or treat for a dog that can tolerate grains.

Why not change it around a bit and add meat to it and just one source of carbs? It would be easy to do and could be a nice treat for your dog. :) The oats and brown rice sound fine... you could mix that with meat and broth.

Sorry everyone , no offense taken and thanks for the advice. This type of diet, with the lack of meat has been recommended by my local homeopath who had treated my last dog's health problems with better success than my traditional vet. That just proves that no one is right all the time, and that I need to do more research! Like I've said thanks again

Really, Luthersma! I'm so surprised. I'd be very interested to hear the homeopath's views on the benefits of the recipe. I'm a firm believer in natural diets and natural healthcare, but all of the books I've read on the subject, and all previous diets I've seen recommended by holistic vets were strongly centered around biologically-appropriate carnivore diets (raw or lightly cooked meat being the primary ingredient).
Any chance you could post the reasons the homeopath gave for an all-grain diet? The soy and wheat particularly surprise me!

Ok I'll be asking her at my next appointment. I have been reading alot about the wheat soy problems in the last few days. I'm wondering what time in a dogs life do allergies typically show up? Thanks everyone!

Most of what we call "allergies" are really intolerances to certain foods. They can show up at any time, even on a food the dog has been eating for a long time.
Its kind of like their bodies say "Enough is enough!" There is a lot of info on canine food intolerace and allergy in both General Health and Diet & Nutrition. You'll get a lot of info if you search both " food intolerance" and "food allergy".
