I am currently feeding my lab the Beniful original dry dog food. She seems to like it. Is this a good product? I have been reading up on some of the other posts but I dont see too many people using the popular commercial brands.

These are the ingredient of Beneful Original and they really are awful. There are many better foods out there. This one is not good. The popular "commercial" brands or grocery brands are bad.

You have definitely come to the right place. From what I have learned here and elsewhere Beneful is about the worst on the market. Check out this link that rates dog food. It should help:

As the others have said it is not that great..that being said not everyone can afford a high quality/priced food..if your budget only allows a certain price you can do some research for better ingredients. A good friend of mine has a black Lab and black Lab mix and they are on Purina...I know it is not that great but they are in very good health and have shiny coats. He takes great care of them but can't afford to buy really expensive food like me.

Beneful is NOT a healthy food...probably one of the worst on the market today. (No offense) It's like feeding your pet junk food everyday.
Stay away from dog foods sold in grocery stores and visit your local pet center to find the healthier, premium brands. Yes, they are more expensive, but you will feed less and have less waste.
Some of my favorites are:
Eagle Pack Holistic www.eaglepack.com
Innova www.naturapet.com
California Natural www.naturapet.com
Nature's Variety www.naturesvariety.com

If you HAVE to feed something from the grocery store, I would go with Iams.

I have to agree...I have fed Iams and have had fine results with other Labs.

Thanks everyone. I actually checked that website out and I think I am going to try the Innova brand. I feel so bad that I have been feeding her junk food.

Don't feel bad. The stores that sell it will never tell you it's not good food. That's why the lab board is here! :)

Don't feel bad!!! You are educating yourself and that is great :thumb4: We have all learned a lot from this board and sure you will too. I think Innova is a good choice:D

Thanks everyone. I actually checked that website out and I think I am going to try the Innova brand. I feel so bad that I have been feeding her junk food.Don't feel bad. With my other dogs (RIP) I fed Ole Roy, Beneful, Kibbles and Bits and at times Gravy Train. If I hadn't of stumbled upon this board when I got Noel, I would probably be feeding her the same. I never really looked at ingredients, just went by what the front of the bag looked like and said.
