I have read a lot of info about using duck or pigeon wings to get a young dog real excited about retrieving. My question is short of shooting something out of season, where can you get these wings to help with the training?

or check with trainers. I am in Houston and have noticed alot of places that sell dove, quail, pheasant, chucker, and pigeons.
I doubt you'll find any duck.

You might try Fleet Farm, online @ www.fleetfarm.com
I don't think I've seen duck wings there, but pheasant and other birds. It may be that you can order them online or call in a phone order.
Also, try www.cabelas.com They have EVERYTHING
Hope this helps

You won't be able to buy duck wings (unless you buy a domestic duck attached to them) as they are federally protected migratory waterfowl. It's a tedious job I know, but a person just has to collect them by hunting (LOL!). For a ready supply of low cost pigeons, buy a live trap (available through Cabelas and numerous gundog supply outfits), then ask your local elevator if you can set it there. I doubt you'll hear the word "no", as pigeons are the bane of their business. As a Patrol Supervisor for the DLPD, one of my duties is destroying nuisance animals. About 0300 on a slow weekday night, myself and a couple gundog owning patrolmen can often be found whacking (and bagging & freezing) nuisance pigeons out from under the overpasses in town with my 1000FPS target pellet rifle. It's a tough job, but somebody has to do it...
