I just got my issue of The Whole Dog Journal and they are reviewing the best dry foods. They state that the company now known as WellPet, formerly known as Wellness Pet Care and Old Mother Hubbard, now operates Eagle Pack. The Eagle Pack Holistic food is still made in Mishawaka, IN. Just thought that was interesting...

I know Wellness has never had a recall.... there was a rumor of one of their canned cat foods being recalled, but it was just that.. a rumor.

I think they are all considered good quality companies and food. Whole Dog Journal recommends all of them.

I am wondering, since Wellness bought Eagle Pack.. if they will remove the corn, beet pulp, salt. etc. from the original Eagle Pack (Not the Holistics... which is free of what I just mentioned)

I think it's a bit the other way around, the company that bought Eagle Pack last year just bought Old Mother Hubbard (Wellness). But the headquaters will be in MA, where OMH's headquarters are...so maybe it's a merger. :) Anyway, here's what I think may be the press release:

Introducing WellPet®; Bringing Together the Best in Natural Products for Pets

Tewksbury, MA (January 14, 2009) —The Wellness®, Old Mother Hubbard®, Eagle Pack® and Holistic Select® brands of natural food, treats and supplements for pets are now members of one family, WellPet. This union brings together Old Mother Hubbard and Eagle Pack, two companies with a long history of delivering on the promise of doing whatever it takes to make the healthiest natural products for the pets that depend on us. With over 100 years of combined experience in the natural pet food market, both Old Mother Hubbard and Eagle Pack, have always put pet health first and share an unwavering commitment to product quality and nutritional innovation. Now, as WellPet, this commitment continues.

“We are excited to bring together the complementary yet unique values, visions and strengths of these leading natural pet product brands to create an unrivaled portfolio that we call the WellPet family,” said Tim Callahan, CEO of WellPet. “We are committed to carrying forth the strong heritage of nutritional excellence, product quality and innovation and look forward to continuing to provide pet owners and their companions only the best in animal nutrition.”

WellPet will be headquartered in Tewksbury, MA with WellPet’s own manufacturing facility remaining in Mishawaka, IN."

This past year Wellness brand was sold to the Holding Co. that owns Eagle Pack.. Both are no longer the small family run companies they once were..

There were quite a few posts about it.....Last year..

Part of the market shake up unfortunately... Perhaps it is for the better... Eagle Pack now has a grain free.. CORE

No, Natura makes Innova, California Natural, Karma, etc. The are totally separate companies.

Wellness has CORE, not Eagle Pack. Eagle Pack has no grain-free formula.

It was an attempt at humor :D... because EP never came out with a grain free...

When mergers take place the goal is profit for the stock holders or in this case the holding co. share holders...

Berwind already owned EP

see article about them acquiring Wellness...http://www.petproductnews.com/headlines/2008/08/15/catterton-sells-wellness-pet-food-in-400-million-deal.aspx

Who is Berwind... Once a coal mining co...http://www.berwind.com/overview.htm

Eagle Pack Holistic has beet pulp in it, all of their varities do unfortunately.

The joining of "forces" doesn't bother me as long as they do NOT mess with the Wellness formulas that we use. Our boyz are doing great on their formulas (one is on Simple Solutions Duck & Rice, the other on Wellness supermix Chicken). Crossing my fingers everything stays the same for the Wellness users out there. :)

we won't feed anything without beet pulp due to anal gland problems when fed food without. it's a good ingredient as long as its not too high up on the list of ingredients

Beet pulp is extremely controversial.
