View Full Version : Fayetteville Animal Shelter has some beautiful labs in..
Ace'sCamille 06-24-2006, 04:15 PM Fayetteville Arkansas Animal Shelter is a highkill shelter (at least, at the last I heard). They are very rescue friendly but are very full most of the time. They are great folks who really care about their dogs and do everything they can to get them out of there. Our Deuce came from there. We're going to probably pull one of the chocolate females soon, but here's the list. They're so beautiful and in danger of not making it out. :( Info on who to call and what the $60 covers (a TON of stuff) is at the end..

Jenny, Jenny...867-5309!! Just kidding. My sister has checked her out, says she's very sweet and absolutely beautiful.

Joker, reminds me so much of Deuce. Deuce is a great dog, I miss my foster boy! :(

Juliette, looks just like our Betty and Bernice who came from Springdale (10 miles north of Fayetteville), right down to the weight problem. I wonder if they're all related?

Muddy, look at those golden eyes!
http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6541496-1-x.jpg
Cisco, loves to play ball. What a cutie!
Here's FAS' shelter link: http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/AR47.html They have two Labs in without pictures up, so they are getting FULL! There's also a Lab puppy on there list and a Lab/golden (spaniel maybe?) mix.
What does the $60 cover there? Spay/neuter, microchipping, heartworm test, and a full line of shots. Also a Fayetteville dog license, if you know someone there. They have a full time vet there, so the heartworm test can be done prior to the decision on pulling. They are very nice folks to work with.
Let me know if you need any help getting one of these babies out. Sometimes their kennel workers will foster if need be. My sister is a local ACO officer, I can get her to temperment test, check any of these puppies out for you.
Susan 06-24-2006, 11:02 PM Beautiful, Camille. Just beautiful. Cisco's expression is really something.

LittleLena'sMom 06-25-2006, 05:07 AM They really all are beautiful,

Ace'sCamille 06-25-2006, 01:03 PM I have such a thing for black labs...I'm forwarding all this to the three families that have adopted from us. Maybe they know other Arkies looking for labs. Fingers crossed, this is such a beautiful bunch. They always get gorgeous dogs in..my suspicions are that is because Fayetteville is a college town, so when people move, etc. sometimes the dogs don't go along with them. Other than that, I have no clue how they get such nice looking dogs in.
Also, they take really good photos of all their "visitors" compared to some other shelters pictures. We had 3 emails wanting to adopt Deuce just based on their courtesy Petfinder listing with his old picture on there. So I'm a bit biased about how great this shelter is...
Lovemylabby 06-25-2006, 01:24 PM They are just beautiful...all of them...I just love Cisco...he is so handsome...hoping for these Labbies...
Ace'sCamille 06-27-2006, 10:27 AM One more Bump. Looks like Juliette, Muddy, Joker, and Cisco are still available, there's a little black lab puppy up. Don't know where Jenny went (it's possible my sister put a hold on her).
There's also a PB Weimeraner and Aussie in. Gorgeous dogs...
Ace'sCamille 07-20-2006, 09:40 PM Cisco is still there. That's a long stay for him..someone at the shelter must have scraped him through a time or two. They also have a beautiful chocolate female in, Mellie.

What can we do to help these Labs....do they accept sponsors? :(
Payton & Cooper 07-21-2006, 05:06 AM What can we do to help these Labs....do they accept sponsors? :(
I'd like to know too...what can we do to help?
Ace'sCamille 07-21-2006, 05:44 AM They do accept sponsors, sponsorship is $60 and that would get him neutered and qualify a senior citizen to adopt him for free so that might open up some opportunities. That's no guarantee for him though. Anyone know a contact with the Tulsa lab rescue?
oh man those chocolates are calling me.
Ace'sCamille 07-21-2006, 06:19 AM oh man those chocolates are calling me.
I know! That shelter always gets in beautiful breed-standard Labs. Yet they are high kill.
I should mention that I have a temporary foster home in that area of the state, so we could foster for a week or two before transport. :brow:
Payton & Cooper 07-21-2006, 06:51 AM How do I get the $ to you to sponser?

Have you tried contacting AR*RUFF www.arruff.org Arkansans Rescuing Unwanted Furry Friends, Karen Ragsdale would be the person to contact at
krun11@sbcglobal.net
hmmm.
can u find out about the chocolates for me?
i have 2 neutered males-a yellow and a black so choc would really complete my pack. we "pretend" that my yellow boy is alpha-that means i put his food down first, give him a snack first. that's it'/no aggression. he would just eat everyones food.
are they neutered? doggy friendly? submissive?
i'm real serious.
transport can be arranged.??????
Susan 07-21-2006, 10:21 AM Camille,
I hope you don't mind, but I thought I would get the pics back here, page 2 and in one place, so people can see some of the beautiful dogs available at Fayetteville.
Cisco
http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6541496-1-x.jpg http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6541496-3-x.jpg
You can tell from the notes and his length of stay that Cisco has won hearts. He sounds like a great dog!
NOTES: Young male, ID: 181493 D15 . Cisco is a handsome black Lab (or Lab-X) boy. He looks very Labby, but his tail does curve upwards a bit. However, Cisco exhibits all the classic Retriever characteristics. He loves water and loves to retrieve. It's hard to wear him down when it comes to playing ball. Cisco will do a spin-out or donuts (like two 360's) in front of you as he spins in excitement as if to propel himself for the "fetch". He brings the ball back, drops it, and stares at it...just waiting for the slightest movement or for you to throw it again! This boy is probably 1.5 y/o and is typical goofy, sweet young Lab. He's energetic and loves to play, and he does very well with his "roomie". They were picked up together in the county and came in as strays. We sincerely hope that Cisco's new home comes along soon.
Sheba
http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6603177-1-x.jpg http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6603177-2-x.jpg
Notes: medium sized, young, female. ID: 183244 D04 Sheba is a beautiful Lab mix with a very distinguishing feature. The hair on backs of her legs is silver...not gray, not white, but silver. It's like she has silver feathers on her flanks. Sheba has a bit of white or light hair on her chest too, and the tips of her back toes are light. What a sweet, affectionate dog! It looks like Sheba may have had a "teen pregnancy," as she's still pretty young but has apparently had puppies. She'll regain her lovely, sleek figure once she's spayed. :-) We think Sheba is about 1.5 - 2 y/o. She's a nice, medium size...somewhere in the 50-55 lb. range. Please don't overlook Sheba.
Mellie
http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6664807-1-x.jpg http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6664807-2-x.jpg
Notes: medium, young, female. ID: 186380 D13 Wow! is Mellie a looker, or what! This young chocolate Lab girl is about 1 - 1.5 y/o and has the typical, energetic young Lab temperament. She's very social but could easily be distracted by a game of ball or something else fun. Mellie is a nice size, at about 50 lbs. Her light-colored eyes just shine against her chocolate coat. This is one attractive girl, we're tellin' ya!
Reggie
http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6664880-1-x.jpg
http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6664880-2-x.jpg http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6664880-3-x.jpg
Notes: medium -large size, young, male. ID: 185134 D15 Reggie is the man! He's a hang-out dude that looks very Labby, although his coat is a bit longer. Reggie is about 3-4 y/o and weighs about 75 lbs. He's a social dog that does well with others and is relatively quiet. Reggie recently went with us to a local park for an adoption event and did super well, especially for being in a large, noisy crowd. He's strong on the leash but is attentive and settles pretty quickly.
Hobbit
http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6664991-2-x.jpg http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6664991-1-x.jpg http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6664991-3-x.jpg
Notes: medium, young, male. ID: 186345 D22 Hobbit is a great-looking young boy (less than a year) that could be all Lab, but we'll say he's a mix. He's cute as he can be, and is a typical bouncy, Labby boy. He gets along well with other dogs and is quite extroverted and social. Hobbit currently weighs about 50-55 lbs. If you like the Labby type, then Hobbit could definitely be your boy!
Dexter
http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6665010-1-x.jpg http://wwww.petfinder.com/fotos/AR47/AR47.6665010-2-x.jpg
Notes: medium, young, male. ID: 184125 D21 See Dexter's happy expression? It's there all the time, and we know it'd be an even *happier* expression if he were safe in a great, loving home! Dexter is almost white in color, with brown tips and spots on his ears and in a few other places. He's about a year old, looks like a Lab mix, and his coat is short. Dexter is an active boy and does well with his kennel mate. If you're looking for a dog that'll keep you in shape and want to be your constant companion, come meet Dexter!

Ace'sCamille 07-21-2006, 04:42 PM Ok, I emailed you, Bett. I can get my sister who is an Animal Control Officer to evaluate Mellie (I'm assuming that's the chocolate you're talking about) and we'll go from there. She'll foster until transport, which will give plenty of insight into how this dog will work in your pack. She has a dominant Boxer and a neutral male chocolate as well as three cats, so it should be pretty insightful.
All these dogs at this shelter are at various stages of vet work, but for $60 the shelter chips, spay/neuters, vaccinates, and runs a HW/Lyme/Erlichia test. They have an on staff vet there full time.
Thanks for posting the pictures AbbeyGirl!
ok i sent u e mails to your pm.
i meant jenny or muddy.
who is the male that u are talking about -muddy or someone else.?
thank u thank u thank u

Those two are both gone, Mellie is the only chocolate they have currently.
Lovemylabby 07-21-2006, 06:56 PM Gosh...some very beautiful dogs at this shelter....really beautiful!
lizzy'sMom 07-22-2006, 03:31 PM I'm a sucker for a chocolate lab too!
Bett...Mellie is a beautiful dog! Looks like my Ruthie! I'd grab her in a heartbeat if I didn't have 4 labbies in my family!
dawgsrkids2 07-22-2006, 09:45 PM I will see what I can do to get a chocolate female here to Rochester. How long do they have?
I need one that is good with kids, cats, and other dogs. I know I am asking for the world but I have an approved home looking for a 'perfect' dog.
Lemme know:brow:

Amy...I was just going to tell Bette to look into your rescue! I'm glad you saw this thread. I guess I didn't realize she was from Rochester!

I don't know how long they have. I'm going to call the rescue coordinator up there to get her assessment of Mellie, the temperment test results, etc. Please PM me with information on transport and Monday afternoon I'll do the same with the assessment of the dog and we'll see what we can work out for her. My sister, the temporary foster home, will be going up to Wisconsin (the northernmost part) the second week in August, so transport would either need to be before that, or connect with that.
Payton & Cooper 07-25-2006, 09:05 AM Any updates?
MamaCheryl 07-26-2006, 10:07 PM I live in Rogers, AR, about 15 min. above Fayetteville, and will be glad to help with the transport. Just let me know how far you need me to go. I have family in Cincinnati, who would not mind a visitor, since it is for a lab! They have two, themselves! LOL! Let me know!!!

Did you ever get your application in to Lindsey for a home visit? Now that she has Phoenix we really could use some help up in that corner of the state to get these dogs out. Let me know if you know of any foster homes, or vets that would be willing to board on the cheap. :)
Other than that, I have no news, I haven't gotten any PMs lately on this. According to petfinder, Cisco, Mellie and the rest are still there.
MamaCheryl 07-27-2006, 11:34 PM hey there, stupid computer messed up, and now printer is busted. Cait's boyfriend is printing it for me. Will send in asap. Oh, I sent donation for poor burned puppy.
MamaCheryl 07-27-2006, 11:37 PM Have you ever checked out 'Truck 'n' paws'? I have transported for them a couple of times. They have a board on yahoo groups or go to www.puppymillrescue.com.
Flightline 07-28-2006, 06:15 PM Ace you are in luck! I live in Fayetteville and I have a contract to do all their city work (even Animal shelter) I adopted a cat and a dog from them and they are top notch people but sadly yes they stay full. I have been approved to foster from them if someone decides to adopt and I can even help with transport. Anything to help:)

That is EXACTLY what I am needing up there! They get such beautiful dogs up there. They are so caring and so rescue friendly that it's hard to believe they meet the definition of high kill (at least 80% euthanasia) but they do. Anyone wanting one of these Fayetteville dogs, please PM me, looks like we have a temporary place for them to go! :)
Also, Phoenix might find a home quicker than we think, so that makes two fosters up in that part of the state for fostering prior to transport out. So if anyone has been thinking about Cisco, Mellie, or the other beautiful Fayetteville dogs, please please PM me!!
Flightline 07-28-2006, 06:47 PM Also if anyone wants more pics from these Fayetteville dogs I would be glad to stop in and take more pics for you or them.:)
