hi everyone,,,

i've been reading different opinions about how the dogs in the wild actually eat or don't eat the content of their prey's stomach which presumeably is full of half digested greens and berries.

i can't see anything wrong with feeding my dog vegies and berry mixes, but anyone have any dissenting opinion?

i would liek to hear them all and make my decision based on them.

don't vegies and berries have their own enzyme already stored in them that the dogs might not actually need to produce enzyme to digest them? is this right?

any website reading suggestion?

thanks

http://www.volhard.com/general/holistic.htm

I have the book, but the website has good information, too.

There have been tons of conversations about what fruits and veggies are good for dogs and there are several that are very bad... browse through the Diet & Nutrition forum and see what's there.

When I started feeding raw I fed fruits and veggies all the time... but the more I read the more it seems they are not necessary (not harmful, just not necessary) and they are allot of work. So I quit feeding them (mostly, he still gets carrots for treats and if there are extra veggies I will feed them)

I feed green tripe once a week - that's the partially digested contents of cow stomach, and the stomach so it also has all the stomach enzymes in it too. It stinks! But my lab loves it.

where do you get cow's stomach?

I buy it from a Canadian company that sells it for dogfood (Urban Carnivore) but if you can find a farmer or butcher that would give it away you'd be in luck! It's just so gross that I'd rather buy it in frozen patties.

Also try going to www.greentripe.com they are in California (so are you right?) and have lots of info on the benefits of tripe, plus they sell it.

It is considered one of the best things you can feed. Instead of boiled buger and rice when my pup gets sick I feed tripe... It's easy to digest, firms up loose stools etc.

No Problem...

Allot of people I talk to that feed raw call their dogs "Tripeavores" :D

I only feed it once a week, but more often is fine. I just have a freezer full of free deer and moose (and my hubby gets mad at paying for Sh*t, as he calls it).

hey, i've seen a cow head before. sure, it was on a living cow.. but i have never seen a beef lung. imagination can be worse than the real thing i think. well, i guess a beef lung dosen't have a face that can stare mournfully at me.:D :D :D

Who knows! Maybe they'll genetically modify lungs so they can see... with poor vision of course so they'll need contact lenses, which Monsanto is currently developing...

O God, somebody please commit me!!!

LMAO at you guys!

My husband got a white tailed deer in November and they used a chain saw to cut the antlers off... They cut right throught the middle of the eyes, its sooooo gross! My SU works on the oil rigs up north so he's away all the time. The first day he's gone I go out to the garage to get in my car and this is what I saw...

He set two saw-horses on top of eachother and then set the half deer head on top so that it was right at eye level aimed right at the door!

Yuck!

I had to turn it around so it wouldn't be looking at me for the two weeks he was gone. I wanted to kill him!
