I've always been a twice a day feeder (terrified of bloat) and I noticed on the Pro Plan bag they recommend once a day feeding. Does anyone just feed once a day?

Does anyone just feed once a day? 3dognite 09-30-2008, 07:13 AM Where are you seeing this? I just looked all over the Pro Plan bag and only found the feeding chart with the excellent recommendation not to take that chart as gospel (paraphrasing here ;) ) and to adjust according to age/activity/body condition. Labman 09-30-2008, 11:57 AM I feed once a day after 6 months because it is the standard practice for the dog guide school we have raised puppies for since 1991. By the way, they feed Pro Plan, adult from 4 months. To the right of the chart where it denies being gospel, it ends with ''... for an average, active, adult fed once a day.'' To judge your dogs body condition, see http://www.longliveyourdog.com/twoplus/RateYourDog.aspx eric 09-30-2008, 12:07 PM 2x/day feeder here. I try to get each meal exactly 12 hours apart, how anal retentive. :roll2: GoodDog 09-30-2008, 12:52 PM I fed once a day until our puppy joined us. My older dog wouldn't eat in the morning so I stoped offering. Now days, if the puppy is eatting, she has to have some food too. CanyonLabradors 09-30-2008, 03:35 PM We do 2x a day, and the pups are still on 3x a day. g'smom 10-01-2008, 06:24 AM i guess we'll stick with the 2 feedings Feeding the total amount of food required at one feeding seems hard on the stomach. RNRLabradors 10-01-2008, 06:27 AM I feed my older Labs once a day and the pups twice, it's worked out very well for us. 3dognite 10-01-2008, 06:50 AM To the right of the chart where it denies being gospel, it ends with ''... for an average, active, adult fed once a day.'' By Jove, it does say that! I need my eyes examined. ;) wonderbred 10-01-2008, 07:29 AM i guess we'll stick with the 2 feedings Feeding the total amount of food required at one feeding seems hard on the stomach. PS - many the dog food feeding suggestions are NOT at all accurate. They tend to recommend way too much food. I would suggest starting with no more than 2 cups twice a day and seeing how your dog does. Labman 10-01-2008, 11:14 AM The Pro Plan adult chicken and rice says 2 1/3-3 cups for 51-75 pound dogs. I have had to feed 3 cups or more to keep my Labs' ribs from showing. 4 cups is well above the recommendation on the bag. |
