I found a small 10-11 mo old female black lab a week ago near my office in the refinery area of Houston TX. She looks in good shape and after a few days of sleep she is acting just like a 10 mos. old pup too.

Unfortunately, I cannot keep her (already have my quota of dogs per the city of Houston) and I cannot find anyone or any rescue place that will take her short of the ASPCA, who told me they were very full and couldn't keep her more than a few days and didn't think a "big dog" like a lab would get placed anytime soon.

She is a very small (knee high) and fairly thin little girl. Seems to understand the concept of No, rides in the car great. It is assumed she was dumped (which happens alot unfortunately). Oh, and it appears she's had a litter of pups in the not too distant past (tho she is no longer producing milk).

HELP ME... I can't seem to get a response from our local Lab rescue. Anyone know of someone or a group that is willing to help this loving little girl?

Laura,
STLRR is completely full right now and can't squeeze in another probably for atleast several weeks to a month or so. If you can keep her I can refer you to a veterinarian in town that will spay/neuter at a discounted rate as well as provide vaccines for her...once you have her spayed we can put her up on our website for you and assist you with adopting her out.

If you can not keep her in the meantime-I would suggest taking her to Harris County Animal Control www.countypets.com rather than the SPCA.

Thanks for the reply. It is so frustrating since every rescue I've contacted has no space, one that did only wanted dogs under 15 lbs when full grown. The ASPCA told me that they were very full and couldn't keep her for more than a few days and since she is a "big dog" she probably wouldn't get adopted.

Currently I've got her at a friend's house and we might have someone who will adopt her. (One of my dogs is extremely ill with some sort of immune disorder and I am afraid to bring a new, stray dog into the house right now.) Hopefully the adopter will work out. If not, I will need to find an inexpensive spay and vaccination plan and try and threaten my friend into keeping her, working on the assumption that "to know her is to love her" and after having the little lab girl in her house for a few weeks she'll adopt her. She is the sweetest little dog around.

I am quite disheartened by how many homeless dogs there are. It appears every rescue group, even the "purebred" Breed rescues are full.

So sad you live so far because she would have a stable loving home in two seconds. We are looking for a second lab. We have a five month old and love him to death.
I hope she can be adopted. I am sure airfare from Houston to Thunder Bay, ontario, Canada would be a killer. Please let me know what happens to her. Thanks ]\\
