I've been asked to cross post this. These two beautiful black labby babies need a new home. Please read story below and if you can help, please contact the Atlanta Dog Squad. Thanks.

Susan

Folks, this is from a gal who works with Atlanta Dog Squad. I was on their site earlier today and saw these two precious labs. Please read below and click on the link and you can read their story. A temporary foster home is desperately needed! Thanks so much and please pass it on!

I do the marketing for the Atlanta Dogsquad and shared this with some coworkers. I'm not usually one for bringing my personal causes to work but having met so many wonderful fellow "dog people" here I thought I'd risk sharing this urgent situation that my rescue group, Atlanta Dog Squad, discovered last night. A family over in Kennesaw has been forced to give up their two awesome black Labs. Turns out their 10-month old daughter is very allergic to them and the dogs must go. I know, I know ... this sounds like an age old excuse to just "dump the dogs" ("my kid has allergies") but we checked it out and this time it's the real deal. Both these dogs are much loved family members and this young couple is sick over having to part with them. I don't expect anyone to jump in and immediately foster this pair (if it happens, cool) but perhaps you could help us (help them) by putting some viral marketing behind this tale and spin it out to anyone you know who might be able to help and ask them to do the same. The link and our group's phone number are below.

Thanks

A Kennesaw family has been forced to give up these two marvelous black Labs. Their 10-month old daughter is very allergic to them. The couple is not the just using the typical excuse, "my kid has allergies" to abdicate their responsibility for these dogs. Both Labs have been raised as “family members” with love and excellent care.

The couple has taken their daughter to a number of allergists and specialists in a vain effort to find other causes for their daughter’s allergies. Recently however, they have reluctantly faced the fact that all options have been exhausted and their daughter’s allergies are much worse when she is near the dogs.

The dogs are Fletch, 11 and Maggie May, 5. They have never been apart and ideally we at ADS and the family would like very much to keep these two lifelong pals together. This rescue is more complex because Fletch has a condition which, while under control, requires medication and routine maintenance. Otherwise both of these beautiful dogs are healthy, housebroken, expertly trained and cared for and in need of a home and family that can appreciate them and provide accordingly.

The family wrote the following:

“Maggie May is Fletch’s best friend. Both pups helped us welcome home our children when they were born. As most labs are, they are wonderful and patient with children of all ages (even the 35 year old ones). They are true water dogs and love to swim at the lake. Fletch will make himself at home on a raft and float for hours.

“One of their favorite hobbies is sleeping, followed by lounging and napping. They truly are best friends. They love the woods, mountains, creeks, and fields…but not as much as air-conditioning! Both were kennel trained as puppies, and sleep in the basement now. They are true indoor/outdoor dogs. They have been cared for by Dr. Richard Best and his staff at Due West Animal Clinic. They are both current on their shots.

“Giving them up is the hardest thing we have had to do. We had them both before we had our children. Our 10 month old daughter has developed severe breathing problems, and her allergies to dogs and cats only makes the situation worse. If you could love them the way we do, we would feel good about giving them to you. While splitting them up is a possibility, we would rather keep them together. Fletch is the only ‘dog family’ Maggie has ever known.”

I saw that yesterday it absolutely breaks my heart to see people who truley do love their babies have to give them up. I would be so devastated if I was in this situation, I do hope someone can give them the help they need!

Just got this e-mail from Toni from the Atlanta Dog Squad. It's a happy ending for Fletch and Maggie Mae!!!

Hi Susan,

Thanks for asking about Fletch & Maggie. We received some GREAT news
from the family. After watching the couple mourn over the potential loss of
their two family members, the wife's parents stepped up and said they would keep the dogs for them. We were so glad to hear that this story had such a happy ending. We haven't had a chance to update our site -- but will let everyone know that Fletch & Maggie are safe, and their owners will be able to see them regularly.

We were very impressed with this family from the start -- they had truly exhausted all measures to try and keep Fletch and Maggie. That's why we agreed to try and help by putting out the word. I'm so glad that word traveled as far as Indiana and Michigan.

I hope you'll keep in touch. The other co-founders and I all have Labs and have worked in Lab rescue. Our volunteers are split evenly between Lab and Golden owners -- and we rescue all retrievers and retriever mixes. Unfortunately, as you know, our state's shelters are always filled with wonderful Labs and Lab mixes. Somedays it seems as though we are
fighting a losing battle -- but then we see one of our dogs go to a wonderful
loving home that makes it all worthwhile. It's true that you have to focus on one dog at a time.

Thanks again for posting Fletch and Maggie on the chat board. And
please tell everyone that they are together, safe and accessible to their
family.

Susan,

That is so awesome. I don't know what I would do if Nadia was allergic to Aowyn, or our three cats; Bianca, Euphrades, and Madison. They are all family members; even Euphrades has tested my resolve. For some reason he doesn't like carpet and will let you know when the litter box is ful.

I feel for that family as I too had to remove a beloved furry friend from my house for two reasons, she was allergic to something inFlorida and my wo son's were alergic to her. She was ny beloved sharpi and it killed me. but she was suffering as were my two boys. I am so happy this has a happy ending of sorts
