I've been wanting to get my yorkies off Natural Balance Duck & Potato since the recall. I've had trouble finding something else that would work as well as Natural Balance has worked. Last week I discovered that the doggie daycare I take Lamar to sells Flint River Ranch and I'm thinking about trying the Fish & Chip (trout and potato) formula for my yorkies. Does anyone have an opinion on this food? Should I switch them or stick to the Natural Balance Duck & Potato??

Here's more info on Flint River Ranch Fish & Chip formula (http://www.flintriver.com/productinfo.asp?pi=Flint-River-Ranch-Fish-Chips-Dog-Food.htm).

The NB Duck and Potato wasn't part of the recall, right?

That's correct but I am just not sure I trust the company anymore after the recall.

I've never used flint river ranch. I still have 2 of my dogs on NB duck & potatoe, which has worked so well for them. One of those dogs is not a huge issue on switching over, however the other dog is. I'm still lost on what I'm going to do with him:(

D&P was the only food we had found that worked for Duncan and his allergies. Like you, we decided to switch foods because I no longer feel I can trust NB. (If they didn't know rice protein was being added to their venison formula, how do they know what's in their duck formula?) We had tried Flint's Fish and Chips before, but Duncan couldn't handle it. Flint does have great ingredients, all from the US and human grade, it was just too rich for Duncan. (Too many grains) We have recently switched to Canidae lamb and rice. So far, so good, but I know it's too early to really tell. Like Flint, it's all US, human grade ingredients. The only difference is it only has one grain.

Does your lab have allergy issues? If so, do you know what triggers them? I think very highly of Flint, it just didn't work for us.

I used Flint River Ranch in the past, but not the fish and potato. I used the lamb and millet. My dog Leah did the best on that food out of any food and her coat looked wonderful. That food was one of the few that Toby could tolerate as far as his allergies but for some reason he never got normal stools with the food, I tried to get him to adjust to it for three months, since it did not give him staph or ear infections, but finally I had to decide it was not the right food for him. Maybe it was just too rich for him too. But like I said, Leah did great on it and Toby does bad on a lot of foods, so I would not judge it by his reactions. I would highly recommend their products.

THanks, everyone! I am most likely going to switch my yorkies to Flint. I'll keep you updated on how they do.

Our dogs have done extremely well on Flint River Ranch (http://www.aplus-flint-river-ranch.com). We've fed the Lamb & Rice and Nugget formulas in the past, but now we use the Trout & Potato / Fish & Chips formula almost exclusively. Our lab and sheps love the larger 'nugget' bite size and we feel completely safe with its US-supplied human-grade ingredients.

We've been very happy with our Flint River Ranch distributor as well -- they have best pricing we've seen and great service:
