I am interested, but we can't seem to get to the planning stage here. Someone needs to take the initiative to set this thing up.

Seeing the pics from the WI Labfest makes me very excited about a Florida labfest! :)

Didn't everyone say that they pretty much could do Fort Desoto?

I'm doing some research. This is the link to a picture of the dog beach. Look how much fun this could be!

http://fortdesoto.com/forums/view.php?site=fortdesoto&bn=fortdesoto_pets&key=1078724614&first=1154187128&last=1062095124

I'm just not sure what we would do about food? I heard the facilities/water/picnic tables are quite a walk from the dog beach. I don't mind the walk but I'm not sure the dogs are allowed to go over where the picnic tables are.

Has anyone been there? Does anyone know the answer to this question? If not, I can give them a call on Monday.

I have camped there before but have not been to the dog park area. So, I don't know the answer to your question.
I am looking forward to going to a lab fest there, though!!

The facilities/water/picnic are not far at all. I have even see people pull the tables over to the dog area. We are talking maybe 30 yards or so. No further than the parking lot. I go there everyweekend. I dont come on here alot. Feel free to email me with any questions. Allyours511@yahoo.com (questions..Allyours511@yahoo.com)

Maybe early December when it's cooler? The pre-holiday Saturdays in December are 12/2 12/9 and 12/16.

Or maybe even in January after the holiday season?

I would think that January might be easier on people because the holiday season gets so busy???

Someone on another board I belong to posted this link to a dog park in Gainesville. Dog Wood Park (http://www.dogwoodpark.com/index.php) It looks really nice. I have no idea where Fort Desoto is or how far everyone is from Gainesville, but it's an idea.

Dog Wood Park looks exceptional! I think Andrea used to take Jubliee there sometimes, we'll have to ask her. Although I am willing to do Fort Desoto if it's easier for everyone, I would prefer Duke to swim in fresh water. Last time we went to the dog beach the salt water gave him the runnies. I think this looks like a good idea.

I might get jumped on for this but I am not a huge fan of dog parks. We don't take Duke anymore after a couple of bad experiences. Honestly though, I think if they are charging $9.50 per day or pay a membership fee, it's probably going to weed out some of the irresponsible dog owners looking for a place to dump the dogs off for the day. It also looks like their rules are pretty cut and dry.

Dogwood is pretty nice...it's on some acerage. Not sure how it would work because it is a members only park except on certain hours on Sundays. They usually charge $10 to get in for non-members. No un-neutered males allowed unless they are under 6 months.

Just FYI. At Ft desoto beach they are dealing with red tide. I have been told it is ok for dogs, but I wont let my dog get in it.

That rules out Hogan :(

I am willing to make a drive (I live in the West Palm Beach area), but probably not anywhere further away than Ocala. Fort DeSoto would work. I drive to dog shows on many weekends, but January we are the month off so it will work for us. Maybe the red tide will be gone by then.

Ft Desoto is a great dog beach park located in St. Pete, FL. I have been there before with my beagle but Dakota's hasn't gone. If we want to picnic and make an all day event we will probably need to reserve a shelter. I can look into it if you like ??? (I live across the bay in Tampa).

if we are waiting until January, red tide should be gone as the water will be cooler by then.

I called Ft DeSoto park and found out that the shelter that is closest to the dog park and beach is always open to the public but we are allowed to bring our own lawn chairs and tables if we want. there are grills at the shelter or we could bring a couple grills of our own also.

If you are up for it and we can decide on a date I would be willing to organize FL Labfest !!!

Dakota would love to meet some new buddies !!!

Wow, that looks like a pretty nice place. Brandy needs to meet some new friends. I would enjoy it too! Keep us posted. I won't attend if there's red tide. We have dealt with that all summer here. It's kept us away from the beach:(

Pups don't have to go in the water at the park. There is a beach if they want to go in but the Paw Playground is fenced off from the water so they can run off leash without playing in the water also.

The more I talk about it the more excited I get so I hope that we can all get together !!! I'm thinking January 13 or January 20 (both Saturdays)

What does everyone think ????????

The 20th could work for me but not the 13th because the 12th is my birthday. Unless if y'all want to throw me a birthday party! lol just kidding ;)

Maybe you could post another thread with a poll of dates to see when most people could come?

Mom to Dakota ... it'd be great if you could organize this. I'm just too far away to do it. That place that you posted looks great! :)
