Does anyone use the new eco-friendly litter that can be flushed down the toilet? With three dogs and four cats I spend a lot time disposing of poop, so I am hoping this stuff works. Of course I like the fact that it is environmentally friendly as well, but I admit that I bought it for selfish reasons, namely, being able to flush the litter. ;)

i'm afraid to use those... cuz having backed up sewage running in my house is that last thing i want to deal with. :floor

Good Point!! My fear is that the cats will reject it, like they did the pine chips, and pee on my bed in retaliation... which is of course their retaliation for everything that i do that they do not approve of.

I've used the swheat scoop and it was so so. For one thing you have to leave it in the toilet for 30 minutes before you can flush. And you can only flush like 1/4 of cup at a time. Plus it didnt work so well for odor. Right now we are using Worlds Best Cat Litter, and loving it! Low, low tracking, almost no odor, and nice firm clumps. I also used the feline pine scoopable (basically sawdust) and when I was on their website it said that the poop is killing the seals in the ocean and that in CA they are banning the flushing of cat waste. Also, when you flush little bits of little get shot around in the toilet bowl and then dry on bowl and make it hard to clean. Good luck though!!

Thank you for the advice. Turns out the kitties can't stand the stuff so it is back to good old scoop it everyday clumping kind. Oh so much poop!!!

I know this post is older, but The litter above is the BEST!!! It's made from corn husks, has NO smell or dust and is completely biodegradable and flushable. It also clumps. My cats love it! You do need to be vigilant about scooping but I love it. A little expensive, but it lasts about 3 weeks for a 14 lb bag and 3 cats.

My redneck cousin was quite animal abusive as a child (particularly towards cats) and would have taken this thread title entirely out of context.

Well, he currently resides in a toilet bowl of society so to speak, so there's that.

Where do you get World's Greatest Litter? How much is it? Is it really safe for a septic tank with leach field?

I have always used Freshstep Scoopable because it works really well. But, the dust is ungodly as well as the litter in the carpet! I have to have the litter box upstairs in the office and I always have a coating of litter dust everywhere. It's gross!!!! My cats are 12 years old. Do you think they would be able to acclimate to the new stuff?

The World's Best cat Litter sells at PetSmart and Pet Supplies Plus and other places, plus you can get it online. It's expensive, around $18 for 17 lbs of litter.
I used to use it and it was pretty good.

Now I've gone back to the scoopable kind and use Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat. This is by far the best cat litter I've ever used as far as scooping, dust and odor control. And it only costs $5.99 for 18 lbs or $10.99 for I think 40 lbs. I don't mind scooping and bagging when I save that kind of money. I get that at Pet Supplies Plus and I know you can get it online. I have a small *pride* of cats, so we go through a lot of litter.

Is it eco-friendly?

Thanks for the information. The Dr. Elsey's stuff sounds great actually. A lot cheaper than the other one. I need something that clumps well, but controls dust.

You may not be able to flush the litter but you certain can flush their poop with most of the litter shaken off(so long as it's a not clumping). For easier litter box cleanup I line my litter box with paper bags from the grocery store. I just make a point use paper instead of plastic or my carry totes once in awhile to stay stocked on them. When I'm ready to clean the box I stick the litterbox inside a trash bag turn it vertical and peel the bag a little bit from the end and it slides right out. Most of the time the litter box just needs a little soap and water. I like to use a few drops of Dawn Odor control and water, toilet brush swish and rinse. Sometime I will just spray the litter box with a little Simple Solution and wipe it out. I have six cats so there's no shortage of cleanup for me.
