Lab Mom 06-20-2008, 06:14 AM Not sure what you are looking for...amount of protein, whether it's grain free, calories? Lots of people feed lots of different things, from kibble to canned to homecooked to raw. Please let us know what you are looking for. auntnene 06-20-2008, 06:22 AM These links might help http://www.lab-retriever.net/board/choosing-dog-food-t38247.html http://www.lab-retriever.net/board/understanding-commercial-dog-t26776.html tkpaul 06-20-2008, 08:35 AM I'm looking to change food in the very near future. What is the ideal food analysis? Assuming (we all know how dangerous this can be) your asking for your dog in your signature who is just over 5 mos., my personal preference is a minimum of 26% protein and 16% fat. Make sure Calcium is less that 1.8% and Calcium/Phosphorus ratio is 1.2:1.0. :thumb4: Labman 06-20-2008, 12:41 PM I would forget the analysis and put a 5 month old Lab on the adult version of any of the common brands, Pro Plan, Iams, Science Diet, Eukanuba, Purina 1, etc. For all their terrible ingredients, The service dog schools are very successful feeding such chows. uplander 06-20-2008, 10:37 PM Is there an ideal? It is most times what works for your dog.. In todays world of recalls and ingredients being purchased overseas choose a company you can trust. Then find a diet they make that works. Two companies I still trust with kibble are the Eagle Pack Co., and the Natura Pet Co. Both have very high certifications for their plants.. http://www.eaglepack.com/index.html http://www.naturapet.com/ Trust is earned. I've fed their products in rotation for about five years now. |
