hi,
i have a 10 month old lab who is sensative to ingredients in standard dog foods. he has been on sensitivity control food for the last 5- 6 months. the thing is that it is so expensive and i cant really afford it anymore, is there any home made foods i could give him that could give him the nutrition he needs while stopping his lose bowel movements? please help!

What is he insensitive too? Until you know that you can't do anything else. You need to know what to avoid. From there, you can choose kibbles or a homemade diet that will work.

Some common foods that present intolerances and/or allergies are certain grains (namely wheat), soy, dairy, and beef.

It seems to me that the extra money paid out for the food that works will save money in the long run on vet bills.

Dad of Jes is right... you need to figure out what is causing the issue. For Tyson it meant duck and potato dog food or a raw fed diet. I choose to do both- kibble AM and raw PM- it is expensive but it works. For Tyson I learned that grains in general are not a good thing: Barley, wheat, corn, soy, etc.... Rice seems to be ok, but I don't push it.

I wish you luck finding the solution. I'm certainly happy to pay the extra cash to keep my dog happy and healthy!

our labs have food allergies... we have them on duck and potato and venison and rice.... its expensive food but i wouldnt think twice if it was food for me.... they are totally worth it.... Natural Recipe is good and Natural Balance by Dick Van Patton... we use them both and our labs love it....

Before you try to figure out what Brucie is sensitive/allergic to, you need to know what's in his kibble: http://www.pcoc.net/dog-food.htm
(Take a gander over to the Natural Diet forum to see more on this.)

What "sensitivity controlled food" is he eating and what are his treats?

When was his stool last checked for parasites?
