View Full Version : Found the best food
Kim D. 08-28-2005, 06:15 PM Hi All,
Just thought I'd share this with you...while my lab Gibson doesn't eat this food (not yet anyway--he still has a taste for INNOVA regular adult food), my shepherd/samoyed cross is very finicky, and I do believe that I have found the Great Solution. The brand is INNOVA, the type is EVO. EVO is new (relatively), and it was recommended to me by the folks at my feed & supply shop, where I get all their dog stuff. It's all natural ( no grains, fillers, etc.) and it's supposed to be the dry food answer that is closest to the raw food diet. Moffett gobbles it down. This was a dog who was not eating anything 2 weeks ago. We thought she had a real problem. Nothing was found at the vet after many blood tests, etc. Turned out she was just being a picky old lady. So for those of you who have very picky pets, EVO is the answer.
p.s. If Gibson had his way, I think he'd eat it too, as he has stolen a couple mouthfuls when Moffett and I weren't paying attention, and I think he had a smile on his face. When his regular food runs out, I think I'll switch him over.
ZacksPa 08-29-2005, 12:14 AM Glad you found a food that works for Moffett! I've heard a lot of good reports on EVO. I never tried it for Zack for two reasons: 1) He is doing well on NB duck & potatoe and 2) he has trouble eating very small kibble, probably due to his XXL muzzle and cheeks. My cat has been on it since it came out and the high-protein/fat, low carb formula has helped her drop weight. A sort of "Catkins" diet!
Kim D. 08-29-2005, 09:47 AM I agree--the morsels are small. But Moffett is old and doesn't like chewing big pieces anymore. So it works for her. I want see a picture of Zack and his big mouth. :)
Susan 08-29-2005, 10:02 AM Kim, are you buying Innova Evo at a store or ordering it for delivery? Have you found the product in any national chain stores?
Thanks,
Susan
happyhomer 08-29-2005, 11:58 AM i like the looks of EVO, too... the only reason i avoided it when i was feeding kibble was that it is potato based, not good for my arthritic dog. but i do feed my cats EVO as a part of their diet, and they love it!!!
Susan, i have never seen EVO for cats or dogs at any chain petstores, i buy the catfood at a small local petstore.
Kim D. 08-29-2005, 12:25 PM Hi Susan, I have not found it at chain stores, but Petco is really the only one around me that I go to. I would call around. Maybe they can order it for you? I love my Canton Feed & Supply; they are the only ones who have the bones & raw food diet, Innova, and Wellness. I might advise asking your vet if he/she knows if anyone sells the Evo, too. Good luck!
Snoopy 08-29-2005, 01:19 PM You can search for suppliers of Innova products on their website www.naturapet.com. Beware of EVO for puppies or labs that are still growing as it has a high calcium level. Here is part of an email that I received from the company when I was choosing foods:
Q. Is EVO Dog Food appropriate to feed to my large breed puppy?
A. No. EVO Dog will tend to maximize growth. This could be harmful to the long term health and well being of your large breed puppy.
Q. Can I feed EVO Dog Food to my Adult or Senior Large Breed Dog
A. Yes. Feeding EVO Dog Food to your adult large breed dog can work very nicely.
Glad to know your dog is doing well on EVO. I am considering this food for Finnegan once he is grown.
Kim D. 08-29-2005, 01:37 PM Finnegan is GREAT! What a cutie! :)
Susan 08-29-2005, 02:04 PM Thank you on the info about where you are buying it. I knew PetsMart did not carry it. Mickey, who sometimes posts on this board, told me once where she purchased Innova. Similar to what everyone said, it was a private (not chain) pet supply store. It is very inconveniently located for me and its hours aren't great for me either; so I had wondered if anyone had tried the Internet suppliers.
I've been feeding Nutro Ultra and for one dog, mixing in a little Royal Cannin for Labs. (That happened when I was trying a few brands; he loves it.)
I've been happy with Ultra in terms of weight, coat appearance, muscle tone, digestion/bowels, etc. I presently have two very, very picky eaters, and one who will eat anything. Ultra is still not a big hit with my picky eaters. When I looked up Innova Evo on the internet, I saw that it comes in small bags. I could run it by Picky One and Picky Two, without much waste if they hate it.

RemisMom 09-11-2005, 05:43 AM Where you can purchase this food brand?
Kim D. 09-11-2005, 10:16 AM Oh Zack is the best.
RemisMom...I think the best bet is to look it up online and then go from there. www.naturapet.com
I get mine at a local feed & supply store.
Timberlabs 09-11-2005, 01:17 PM He could swallow a Chihuahua whole! ... Kidding!
LOL As an owner of 2 Chis and one lab with a rather large mouth..you aren't kidding!! lol
ZacksPa 09-11-2005, 11:52 PM Timberlabs, I was going to say he could swallow a Chihuahua whole, although I usually cut them in half for him! I chickened out, I was afraid of the fallout!

Your right, my brother and his wife have 2 Poms, not much bigger than your Chis(only furrier). Zack has no concept of his size. Even when his very lethal wagging tail sends them flying!
Darcy 09-13-2005, 05:29 PM You're the first person i've ever heard of that has a sammy (mix) I think they are the most adorable dogs!! they always look like they're smiling! Glad to hear the food is working out so well!
Kim D. 09-15-2005, 10:04 AM I'm trying to work on redoing my signature photos to include one of Moffett. At 12 1/2, she is an energizer bunny--now she has Lyme disease, but you'd never know it. She is our old dignified queen of the roost. Keeps Gibson in a much-needed line. :)
