I got tired of the standard noises that Microsoft makes when programs are opened or closed, you hit the wrong key, etc. Now my PC sounds like a chorus of barking dogs when Windows loads, a chorus of howling wolves when it closes down, I get growled at when I hit the wrong key, when new mail arrives it is announced with a friendly 'woof woof" and I get a crisp bark instead of the Windows "asterisk".
It isn't hard..if you want to do the same thing, follow thiese easy steps:
1) download the *.wav files. For example, look here
(I got deepbark.wav and wolf.wav (second one after wolfhowl.wav) (also howl.au is nice, but I can't get Windows to play it as part of the sounds) at this one
http://www.partnersinrhyme.com/soundfx/dogssounds2.shtml
and a bunch more at this one
http://new.wavlist.com/soundfx/001/
and right click, save to your PC.
2) Find out where Windows has the *.wav files. Go to "start" "settings" "control panel" "sounds" and click on something that has the little loudspeaker next to it. Make a note of the file name, like "notify.wav". Then go to "start" "find" (or "search" for that file. It will be somewhere like WINNT/Media.
3) Move or copy the *.wav files that you downloaded into that folder.
4) Now if you go to "start" "settings" "control panel" "sounds" and click "browse" your "bark.wav" file should appear. If you select it, the next time Microsoft wants to make a noise it will bark, growl, howl (or for that matter belch or make any other noise you care to hear).
It sure has my pooch going! He really dones'nt like the puppy whining!
