I was wondering what games everybody plays with their labs to get them nice and tired!!

Fetch is fund but I think Chopper can tell I am getting bored with it in our yard...he has started not being as into it.

WE NEED VARIETY FOLKS!! HELP US OUT!!

Snickers is an excellent frisbee dog...she also loves to fetch most anything I throw for her...and she loves to hunt and kill moles, birds, rabbits, squirrels, cats. She has two bird kills, five mole kills, and several close calls [for them] with the others...

The two dogs and I played soccer in the yard today, but it really works better with 2 people for wearing them out. Fetch or swimming are really the two best things for wearing them out. Maybe try throwing new things?

We play hide and seek sometimes. My dogs are pretty laid back and entertain themselves outside. Inside they sleep on their beds or the couch. I also play fetch with them.

I don't know about everyone else, but Libby mentally wears herself out through clicker-training sessions... which we usually use more for tricks and such than anything. The more behaviors she offers in hopes of getting "clicks," the more her mind starts working, and the more tired she eventually becomes. Soon, she's snoozing the afternoon away!

Don't get me wrong, we also play "chuck-it" in the local park, do lots of swimming, as well as (on leash, especially to break up obedience sessions every 10 min or so) 1-2-3-GO! games, where I tell her "1...2...3...Go!" and start running away from her so she's in pursuit. But she seems even more tired after a good clicker session! ;)

Zeke doesn't fetch at ALL

so we play tag (althugh he cheats), practice agility, and then I let the other dogs in to wear him out (they are older, so I wear him down a bit first and let them finish him off).
walks.....

he plays catch, but he doesn't bring the ball back. But if you yell catch and toss a ball, he will leap into the air and grab it....eventually he getts exausted from the jumping

That's why I'm training Keno with agility. It gives her variety and its something she loves doing and it will tire them out too!

Right now, the heat tires her....lol

Dakota's newest game is "Find the Cookie". I will hid a cookie (treat) around the house and tell her to find the cookie. This helps with her retrieving and increases her senses. :)

This sounds like fun!! How did you first teach Dakota how to find it? Annie is completely sniff stupid. She hardly uses her nose at all. She retrieves almost entirely by sight. Did you let her see you put it somewhere first? Or did you just hide it and kind of guide her in the right direction?

We do a lot of "find it" also. Start off where she can see it. Then she'll realize quickly that "find it" means there is a cookie SOMEWHERE. With Bailey, we've also added "Hot" and "Cold" when he gets close or far away.

We play tag and the DH has a basketball court in the backyard - Brie loves to rebound the ball and is very good at it! Chase tends to stay away the scardey pup is afraid to get hit with the ball. She and I usually play fetch (she's excellent at it) while Brie plays basketball with the DH.

We play soccer occasionally....she will chase the ball as I kick it around the yard, and once we get from one fence to the other, I will normally back away from the ball as she backs away so I can kick it deep for her to take off after. You just have to be careful not to kick her while you are kicking it down the field...

We play baseball.
Mudd is the outfielder and I'm alway up at bat.
I hit the ball and Mudd runs after it and brings it back to me. Well, he brings it somewhat close to me. Then I have to tell him to "drop it."
Then I'm up at bat again, and Mudd is always ready to go running for that ball. He is quite tired after a few rounds of this. :)

Hide & seek is very popular here, we play daily. Alex loves to give me away so I usually shut him in the bedroom then :D. Abby LOVES hiding from Alex, she sits very still and even 'holds her tongue' so he can't hear her breathing. When he gets close enough she pounces on him. It is hilarious.

We also play 'find it'. I scent a ball and hide it, they find it (we take turns on who gets to search, or it wouldn't be fair).

FETCH. I play fetch in my sleep with 80 or so assorted balls.

Agility 3x a week, an hour each session.

We go to obedience training at least once a week but I doubt the dogs would count it as fun, considering what else we do. We try to make it fun for them with treats and acting all nutty (I think they just pretend they like us to act like that and then secretly laugh at us).

We go to the dog park every day that we don't do agility, so 4x a week. Surprise! We play fetch the whole time there. Alex plays pretend and acts like a deer, hopping through the high grass- while Abby plays fetch.

Whew! Do naps count as a game if we all play?

We play find it with treats and a ball. They LOVE that game. It's taught them to stay in the "down stay" for longer periods of time as well.
