I have a 11 month old Lab and want to help out the joints and hips at a young age. He is heavy at 95 pounds. Should I use a dog food with it or buy supplements...human or dog? What advice is there. I lost a Lab to Hipdisplsia and it was terrible for the dog and me.

Well Glucosamine is not really going to prevent Hip Dysplasia.
Glucosamine well help keep good joints feel good, and help bad joints feel better.
You can choose a food that has Glucosamine in it or you can use a supplement. Liquid G&C is generally better than solid forms.
Good Luck!!

I use a human powder glucosamine product that I sprinkle on the dogs food. Cleaner and readily available at the health food shop.
Specialist pet shops that carry a good range of joint products are almost non-existent here, so the human grade stuff is more than adequate to meet the boys needs.

Walmart? In the human vitiman section? After a hard play or swim my dog limps around for a day seems to be sore from work out?

One of my friends has a 14 year old shepherd mix with very bad arthritis. She started her dog on Synflex (liquid G&C). She swears that her dog is doing much better on it. It is human grade. She did say the dog doesn't like the taste of it. (Apparently is is somewhat milky.) She mixes it with her food.
If you really want to help your dog's joints, get some of that weight off of him. I have a big boy, 98 pounds, 23-1/2 inches, and he weighed no where near that weight at 11 months; he was about 82 pounds. Most foods that contain G/C are a marketing gimmick and do not have enough G/C in them to do any good.

This is what I've heard also. Better off getting a separate G/C product.

If you could share with me the weight and age of your dog and how much gc you are giving them. I would like to start giving it to my pup, but don't know what dosage to use. I want to do this because she is very active...running, swimming and doing pre agility class (no jumps yet until she is fully grown), but if she does take to agility, I want her joints to be in the best shape possible. Thanks!

I open up the capsules of Glucosamine and Condroitin powder over Avery's food every morning. And yes, he should be at the proper weight.
