I've seen so many great reviews for the canon rebel, but that's way over my price range. I just want a good camera that will take action shots and evening shots.

Do you pros have any good suggestions for such a camera under $300?

TIA!

Not sure, but I do know that I see Rebels for sale in my paper for pretty cheap all the time. I bought mine from Lisa with three lenses, two batteries and a camera bag for around $500. We were doing the same as you...looking for a camera less than $300 that would do all of that and then we just decided to buy a used rebel because thats what we really wanted.

(just a suggestion, lol, I don't mean to say that the rebel is the only good camera, but am just saying that used ones can be decently priced)

I have a Canon PowerShot A630 and I can go into a pitch black room and take a picture and it will come out very well. It has a night time mode. It also has continuous shooting mode so I can hold the button down and it will keep clicking so I can get great action sequence shots. It cost me about 260 a year or so ago.

Yea! This is exactly what I want because everytime I go to take a picture, I get the wrong one, and then the one I want is gone because I've wasted time taking the first picture.

GussyandHudson--thanks for the suggestion! I'll check into those prices at our walmart...if they even sell them.

I got great pics of Smack barking with his ears straight up in the air. It's great!

Yeah I held up a treat and made him speak for it while I shot. I wanted some ear shots.

Before I got my Rebel I had (well, still have it) a Canon Powershot S2 IS. Great little camera and can be had for a good price now. It has an action mode and built in flash that will pop up in auto mode.
