Check this gorgeous boy out. He was found as a stray and if we don't find his owners soon, he will be available for adoption. He's gorgeous....

AND of course, we will scan him for a chip and wait for 2 weeks, we are trying to find his owner and have him posted on our site.

What a handsome boy. I'll bet somebody is looking for him right now.

Apparently the people that found the dog, hadn't thought he may have a microchip until Sue mentioned it and sure enough, he has one. Hopefully we'll find his home, if they don't want him, well, then we'll find him a good home.

I can't believe they wouldn't want him. They must have accidentally left the gate open or something. Hope you find them soon!

I talked with Elaine yesterday evening. She got in touch with “Dude’s” owner. The original owner (OO) said that she has 6 other dogs and that Dude keeps jumping her fence; she thinks the dog is trying to find a young mentally challenged boy who used to live nearby (or possibly Dude's former owner?? --OO’s story a bit vague here--). The mentally challenged boy has moved from the neighborhood and now OO is the dog’s owner.

OO says Dude “doesn’t get along with her other dogs well” but Elaine didn’t quiz her on exactly what OO meant by that (ie whether he was actually aggressive or just simply a dominant personality). Elaine hase 2 dogs of her own, an Australian Shepherd who Dude gets along with just fine, and a small Schnauzer. Elaine didn’t mention Dude’s reaction with her Schnauzer but I got the impression that since the Schnauzer is so much smaller than Dude (rather than because of any negative reaction) she has kept them apart. So since Dude gets along with Elaine’s Aust. Shep. I’m wondering if OO meant that Dude was “dominant” and OO had other dogs that were dominant or that the other dogs in OO’s family and not Dude were the reason Dude sought companionship elsewhere.

Anyway Dude is UTD on shots and has been on heartworm preventative is neutered and housebroken. The OO told Elaine that Dude was a “handful” which seems to go along with the young age and that he was a Lab and Golden Retriever mix not a purebred lab. OO decided she did not want the dog back and she is going to send Elaine all of “Dude’s” vet & microchip records. Elaine still needs our help trying to find this guy a home ASAP. Elaine also has cats and chickens whom Dude seems to be particularly interested in chasing.

Dude is apparently pretty smart because while we were on the phone a BIG bumblebee flew by and he tried to catch it. Elaine was able to put a bowl over top of the bee to keep Dude away from the bee while we continued our conversation. So she is standing there on the cell phone talking to me and Dude realizes the bee is underneath the bowl so he is trying to dig under the bowl to get the bee! Too smart for his own good! It sounds as if he may have a real high play drive and as such might be good for search and rescue work or something like that. Trouble is I don’t have any contacts that might know how to put Elaine in touch with someone that could test him for suitability in that way.

He sounds like a very friendly people dog no question. My guess is because he appears to be so young, he could probably be trained to have good doggy manners. Because of his tendency to jump fences, my guess is he would need a place where he was indoors or crated when left alone or a place with a tall fence.

Elaine is going to call Lina or me when she gets the release and the paperwork from OO for Dude. When she lets us know she has gotten the paperwork, then he will be available to be adopted.

SOMEONE must have ties to people who do search and rescue training, but age is a big factor in that, so thats why I ask.

I will call Rachel, the service dog trainer tomorrow, and see if she knows of anyone. She used to work for one of the big boys down in GA, so she might know someone who knows someone....you know what I mean. Everyone knows somebody. If not for this boy, for future reference...

PEople are stupid. When the day comes you hve too many dogs, DON'T TAKE ANYMORE, NIT WIT!!!

We guestimate his age as 18 months....but not sure.

I like that age for what I do, but I have no idea what they look for....but now if I find someone and they ask, I'll be able to answer...

I'll see what I can dig up tomorrow.

I'll add it to my list of things to do...*eye roll*

Wow he is good looking. I guess when you have 6 dogs one more can be overwhelming.

Well, the foster Mom said they stopped by to sign the paperwork over to the foster Mom and said the people were super nice. Maybe just bit off more than they can chew???

I think they did. I know that for me to foster a dog right now would be stressful. We are still getting used to Nadia being here. I have to say I am amazed at how well your body adapts to lack of sleep.

He is so handsome, I wish I could have another dog. Maybe I should get the divorce and then I can have the dog....lol. Then I could not afford the dog...catch 22.
