Well about a year ago we lost are Golden Retriever do to cancer. He was a dump on the side of the road by are house and he fallowed my fathers truck when he pulled in and he became are barn dog that came in a night. He was very badly beaten before he had him and it took a year before we could try and pet him on his head with out him dropping to the floor. Because we wanted another barn dog we were looking around and got told about Mongo we decided to call him since he did not answer to any other name. Now this is his story.

For Mongo I am his 4th in his 10 month life right now and I am saying I am his final owner. When he was a pup he was bought by a couple and then they got divorced and they gave the dog to a friend. Well now she just got a new job and apartment so she could not keep him so he went to a family friend that to him was a pain and was just a dog. This is where he gets miss treated. Mongo was able to get over the kennel they had so the guy thought that putting him a 2 foot leash chained to a post in the kennel with just enough room to get into a dog house and to get out side to do #1 and #2. The problem was that if we wanted to be outside he had to be in his own filth since they never cleaned the kennel it looked like.

Well do to these conditions he had some problems. How I found out about mongo was a friend of my mothers had a friend who knew the 2nd owner and she wanted to see if she could find him a better home since the family member just took him to help her out and really did not want to the dog. So I went to look at him and I saw these conditions and man did he smell bad. I played with him for about an hour and he was very happy about that and he had a great personality. The bad thing was I did this on a Monday night and we took a car and not a truck and we did not have everything setup at home to take him home that night. So with working 12 hour days I could not get over till Saturday morning since it was about an hour drive there. I felt so bad because when I looked over him he had a bad rash under him were there is little hair, calices on his front elbows, and this big scab and rashes on his ear were the fly’s were getting to him. I did not know he had all this when I went on Monday till I saw him.

So after a long 5 days I went to pick him up. When I got their he saw his owner and he just did not even look happy and then he saw me and remembers me and went nuts in the kennel. So I took him out and gave him a quick bath before I took him strait over the vet for a checkup since we have other dogs at are house and we did not want him give anything to are dogs for that just incase. The funny thing was that after the wash I take him to the truck and put him in the cage and he wants to leave. He did not even look back at them he was just so happy to leave.

So I get the vet and it was a 3 hour wait to get in but the good thing was that he was able to get to see and be around other dogs so I knew he was good with other dogs witch was good for are 3 Springer’s at home. I weight him during the weight and he only weight 65 lbs were he should be at about 80 lbs. So the vet takes a look at him and he was just discussed with he former owner. Lucky the blood test and fical test came back negative. When he looked at the rash he thought there could be a slight chance of mange but he did not think there was. Then he took a look at the ears and they were just so dirty. The vet said that he thought they had never been cleaned in his life. He gave me some medication for everything and he was good to go.

So after the vet we took him home and gave him some baths. One was a flee and tick and the other was an antibacterial to get all the stuff off of him for good. We have learned that he is a chewer so we got him some toys and even some good size pieces of wood as shown in the pictures to play with and for some chewing.

After a week his rash is gone and his is answering to his name. He is acting so much better too. He is calming down and just relaxing. He is outside during the day and comes in at night and sleeps in my room in a cage. If I can get him the stop barking when I leave him by the barn I will be so happy. I am so happy I got him. For the price of just having to drive down there to get him he is a great deal. Now I think he things he had died and gone to heaven because he went for a 2 foot leash to a over 75' run and now I let him run are back yard since he comes when asked and that is about 8 acres or running room. Latter this year I hope to introduce in to the pond and let him swim.

I know you're gonna continue to love having him- living with a lab is like living with a cartoon character!

Brings tears to my eyes, and I'm not joking about that.

We have five puppies and manage to take good care of all of them. I can't understand why some people can't be bothered to take care of ONE.

They just want to be loved. It seems so little to give and so much to receive in return.

Well I think I will take some new pics of him this weekend. He is growing. He is doing good. Right now he is trying to sleep in his cage that is right behind me but I got a sigh out of him when I started to type this. :p:

He is doing good and he is getting into his own right now around the house. He was even playing tug of war with are 9 year old English Spinger that just had ACL surgury on her one rear leg about 2 months ago and about 6 months ago on the other leg. She was having fun and he knew to not to be hard on her. He would pull on her put not enough to pull her and then he would pulll her a little and then he would lay down and let her pull him a little. It was funny to see this 35 lb dog about half the size of Mong pull him around. She was so happy she was doing it. It was good for her since with both rear legs being done her front is all big because she has not been using her rear legs but with this she used her fronts and her rears and we stoped before she over did.

Since I got home late he was in the house when I got home since my mother got him in and he played with are Spinger whe I was home and then I got some things done and I layed on my bed to watch some TV. Well I have found out Mongo likes soft things like the sofa and my bed so I told him he could come up on the bed to relax. So he did and he just spread out and relaxed.

So is he geting to be spoiled with all this? NOOOO :D
