View Full Version : I hate people...
We adopted this really nice 14 month old chocolate boy named Charlie last Tuesday.

He has some issues with being nervous due to the fact that he's been bounced around so much. Lovely dog...needs to learn full trust and how to settle a little bit. Was completely house trained.
Great (or so it seemed) family adopted him, took him home, they enjoyed him and so did the other two dogs in the house. Apparently a couple of days ago started having frequent accidents in the house after having been outside. Screamed possible UTI to me. Woman rubs dog's nose in the pee and refuses to crate or tether him to her to help remind him where to go. Declares that she doesn't want to deal with him because it's the holidays.
This after she went on and on to the homevisit people that she was willing to do anything to help the dog settle into her home. She called me unreputable and called my vet and personally told them they were negligent and then dropped the dog off there because I was out of town at a funeral.
I am LIVID. This poor dog is already has no reason to trust humans. He's great with cats and dogs...and around most people...but I get the feeling he's just waiting for the other shoe to drop...which it just did. He's currently spending the night at my vet's office. Poor guy.
Poor Charlie. He just wants a loving home.
Little Boomer 12-10-2007, 06:52 PM :hammer: That is so terrible!!! I am so sorry. Poor Charlie! I hope he finds a wonderful home soon!! That family didn't deserve him. He deserves someone AMAZING!!!
angus&teddy 12-10-2007, 06:54 PM I am so sorry Dani. Can we all :hammer::hammer: the lady for you?
Shaqpuppy 12-10-2007, 06:55 PM Charlie is beautiful and he WILL find his real forever home. She sounds like a real work of art
Deep breaths - it works ;)
Pam and Brandy 12-10-2007, 08:48 PM Dani, she really didn't deserve him. You do the best you can do to check out these people but there are some really good actors out there. I'm glad he's back under your wing and away from her. I know you'll find him the perfect home.
PATEX 12-10-2007, 08:59 PM Poor Charlie! He deserves a good home where the people will understand him and help him. He didn't find them this time, but he will find them next time.
Did the vet say if he had a UTI?
You know, it might just be that she was sending him outside alone, and he wasn't getting his business done there. Joy had some accidents in a couple of homes, but she didn't have them with me. I always accompany the dogs outside. In one home, there was no fence, and I think that the woman was letting both dogs out of the crates in the morning and then taking her male out on lead to potty first. In Margaret's house, she let all of the dogs out to potty, and she didn't realize that Joy was sitting by the door & waiting for Margaret to come out with her. When she let them back in, Joy hadn't pottied outside because she had never left the door, so she wound up having an accident inside. She figured out what happened pretty quickly and was able to remedy the problem. Joy is a really nervous dog, too, and that is why I was wondering if it was a similar situation with him.
Hi Dani,
Is Charlie available for adoption or did you adopt him last week? I've been looking for a dog for what feels like forever now!
Mike
Sarah Beth 12-11-2007, 12:38 AM Wow that is really awful. I hope he gets a great home.
Jill,
I am not sure if she accompanied him outside. I always to that too or watch from the window. Since I just got back late last night from the funeral, I don't know if they tested him for the UTI. He was boarded at my vet for the night.
Mike,
He's back with me and available for adoption.
FRDSHOGRLX3 12-11-2007, 04:52 AM Call all the local rescues and "Black list" her.
Call all the local rescues and "Black list" her.
Oh believe me, I did. There is a Michigan Dog Rescue listserv and that already went out on it.
Payton & Cooper 12-11-2007, 06:30 AM :( So sorry to hear this. Poor boy. Someone is out there just for him though.
Kim Sellers 12-11-2007, 06:56 AM Mike--- Thanks for looking. I thought Charlie might fit :) You really need a lab for the Holidays.
HaleyJo03 12-11-2007, 06:56 AM Oh for God's sake. So he had a few accidents..some people. I hope she does get black listed. People like that shouldn't own dogs.
ChrissyB 12-11-2007, 08:15 AM I wonder if she's ever done something accidentally???? Like some of the other posters have said...she did not deserve him. I hope he finds a good, happy home with someone that's willing to work with him.
lellolablover 12-11-2007, 09:21 AM So well summed up in your opening line - and I agree with you. I hate people too.
After the holidays, they'll probably adopt again. Hopefully they remember to make a notation on their application "Perfect Dogs Only Need Apply".
Julie 12-11-2007, 10:54 AM He looks like such a sweetie. I'm so sorry that happened to him, but at least she returned him (in an indirect manner) to you instead of putting him outside forever or hauling him off to the pound.
I rescued a lab who started having similar issues. It didn't take long to get it worked out and did not require any kind of harsh corrections. I just had to catch her in the act one time, scold her, and that was all it took. People give up really great dogs for such stupid reasons...it just makes me so sad.
LuvLabs 12-11-2007, 11:08 AM What a loser. Charlie looks like a doll. :) Did she not realize what time of the year it was when she was "putting on an act" for the home visit? :mad2:
LuvLabs 12-11-2007, 11:13 AM Forgot to say. I hope things work out with Mike and Charlie.
Makwa's 12-11-2007, 11:14 AM Well look on the bright side Charlie is not in a home with a loser
And you were able to black list her. He is a beautiful boy, I am sure
He will find his forever home.
chinamom 12-11-2007, 12:14 PM Good grief! Emmy had an accident shortly after I got her from rescue. Not her fault, I think she needed to go and just didn't know how to tell us.
Cleaned up the mess and moved on. That lady didn't deserve him. How mean to rub his face in the carpet. Hopefully he will find a kinder, more loving and understanding owner soon.
Christen99 12-11-2007, 03:02 PM Maybe someone needs to rub her face in a mess. She didn't deserve such a sweet boy, thankfully you were able to contact the other rescues and black list her.
Susan 12-11-2007, 03:48 PM I'm sorry Dani and I feel so bad for Charlie. This will work out, but I hate that I can't tell Charlie that. :( :(
Susan
ttitus1957 12-12-2007, 08:20 AM There seems to be too many people like her in this world. Makes me want to spit.
Dog Ma 12-12-2007, 08:33 AM Until you've been in the shower scrubbing weeks worth of imbedded urine/feces/fleas from one puppy when poop from the second suddenly washes by your feet, you haven't seeen a real accident! Stupid people.
Thank goodness Charlie got out of there fast! He was there too short a time to really bond, anyhow. He'll trust again in your understanding and nurturing home.
kpowell 12-12-2007, 12:50 PM I agree with you. Some people are really only out for themselves and don't think about other people, much less helpless animals. Poor Charlie--I hope he finds his forever home soon, and gets one of those that only comes along once in a while!!!
Payton & Cooper 12-12-2007, 01:17 PM Dani,
How is Charlie doing?
gold'nchocolate 12-12-2007, 04:09 PM Well, he's a gorgeous chocolate lab!!! I'm glad that he's out of there...his life wouldn't have been that great, with that owner, anyway.
Dani,
How is Charlie doing?
He broke open his tail at the vet from wagging it, so he's had to stay a few extra days. They are doing blood tests on him while he's there because he's lost 7 lbs and he's peeing in his kennel there...which he's never done. The UTI test will be coming back soon too.
Otherwise, he's doing great.
Thanks for asking!
Toby's Mom 12-13-2007, 11:43 AM I'm sorry to hear this, Dani. :( Charlie looks like SUCH a sweetheart. I wish I could be his forever home, but the timing is just not right. :(
I've always wanted a chocolate lab named Charlie, and his story speaks to me. :(
Dog Ma 12-13-2007, 01:09 PM 7 pounds? What were they feeding the poor dear? I hope things turn around for him very shortly.
SablesMom 12-13-2007, 01:48 PM Good thoughts headed Labby Charlies way!
I'm disgusted to hear what had happened to him
in that ungreatful home!
hey Dani I've done home visits to West Chester, PA
before as it is fairly close to here, let me know if you
and Mike need my help.
sadiesmom 12-16-2007, 02:16 PM Dani...pls update us on Charlie...cant stop thinking of him and hope he is doing better. I'll never understand how stupid some people can be-thankfully he is not staying in that home.
