View Full Version : Hello, and question
Is this board strictly for registered Labs? We will be getting a "naturally bred" puppy (Lab & Lab/some Border Collie parentage) on Friday. I'm sure I will have many questions. I'd like to make sure they'd be welcome regarding this dog.
I have a few questions before the pup arrives, so if you could let me know if this is the place, I'd appreciate it.
Great pics of your dogs for avatars, by the way!
ChikadeeLab 06-04-2003, 04:30 PM hi! And welcome! I'm pretty new myself, but I don't think anyone will mind any questions you have. Ask away! I haven't had a puppy myself for about 9 years, but I'll see how I can help.
Thanks HuntersMom. I'm trying to surf to answer as many questions on my own as I can. I have a feeling I've just had another child, LOL. And here I thought I'd have time to myself because our youngest is in school full time in the fall! My puppy skills are non-existant, I only brought them home as a kid, never raised them. Sure have missed having a dog! Wonder if I'll say that in a week, LOL. Can't wait to tell the kids.
ChikadeeLab 06-04-2003, 05:34 PM lol, having a dog will be worth it all the way! I can't wait to get my puppy when I come home from vacation! I miss having a dog! ^_^ Your kids will probably be thrilled!
Welcome to the board. We have several people here with Lab mixes -- all are welcome!! We also have people like me that have more than just labs. Pictures are mandatory, though. ;) Let me know if you have any questions about posting pics.
Thanks Barb. Although German Shepherds are my first love for their mischievious and playful personalities, I did grow up next door to the most wonderful Yellow Lab. Now that I have two young girls, I think a Lab is far more suitable. I also want the companionship when my husband is away, and I like that the breed is known for a warning bark, but not as a guard dog. Sounds like the best of all worlds.
Linds_Jonathan 06-05-2003, 02:40 AM Hello! This site has help a lot since we're getting our Molly soon (yellow female lab)! I have a quick question... when is the best time to get Molly's eggs removed or tubes tied? I never owned a female dog before so I'm new with this. Also what is the best dog food for a lab? Let me know, Thanks! To see Molly's Pixs at 3 weeks old are at http://measel.corephp.com/img.pup/ Lindsay;)
Roxy's Family 06-05-2003, 02:55 AM Hi & Welcome rb! :) This site doesn’t "discriminate" Lab's registered, unregistered, mixers included, heck id think they’d "take in" a poodle owner :D . Great people on here, I hope you find it just as informative as we have!
(ps: Jonathan & Lindsay... heres a couple of links with good info for your question :))

Linds_Jonathan 06-05-2003, 04:16 AM Hey Roxy family: Thanks so much for the information, I thought I had to spray her before Molly is 12 weeks old but I will asked my vet just to be sure because my fiancee's mom waiting until after their dog went into heat and they relaized they waited too long but their dog is a dashund so labs are different. I think, I will wait 6 months before getting her sprayed. What do they do when they spray a female dog? Lindsay *clueless girl*
dede0726 06-05-2003, 06:59 AM Lindsey,
Thanks for sharing pics of your new Molly!!! I know how excited you are to get her home. Our pup is just a week old and I am more than excited to have him join our home.
I will send pics as soon as I figure out how to download from my camera!!!
Thanks!!!
Linds_Jonathan 06-05-2003, 03:27 PM DeDe: What kind of lab are you getting? I sure can't wait to bring Molly home. I made her a first vet appointment on Monday, June 30 to get her check up and make sure she's a healthy puppy :o) I'm just pumped up to get Molly but the waiting time it just seems forever heheh! Today is one year until I get married *6-5-4* yeppie! Poor Molly will be 1 by that time I get married, someone will have to babysit her while I'm off on my honeymoon with my new hubby! It just all going great for me... moving into a townhouse which has tons of room for Molly to run around in and we're moving into a townhouse for Molly because we both really wanted a dog for a long time. We're getting Molly and planning a wedding for next year. It's a lot for just the month of June hehe but that's alright with me as long as I got my fiancee and Molly ;o)! Have a great TGIF and also a great weekend! Lindsay:D

We do not know for sure yet if we are getting a yellow or a black. The mama had 8 blacks and only 1 yellow. It is my sister in law's dog so lucky for us, we get first pick!! We change our mind daily on which one we are going to go with. They are just a week old today, so we will probably go down in the next week or two to pick one out!
Congrats on the wedding and townhome!!! Pretty exciting changes, huh?? My husband and I were just married in March, so this will be our new baby too!! We live in a house with a nice big backyard that is just begging for a puppy! ha ha ha~~~
Just think...you have less waiting time than I do?!?!?
Have a good TGIF!!!
Roxy's Family 06-06-2003, 03:17 AM Yoo Hoo Lindsay!
Not sure about the procedure first hand... (Roxy hasnt been spayed yet) But I found a web site... with pictures (yuck)...
Or perhaps some of the "Lab Pros" on here can give you a better idea of the Spaying procedure :)
