Hi all. We currently feed our THREE dogs Canidae Lamb Meal and Rice. We have found now that we have three dogs to feed, our monthly food bill has become very high with 75 and 90 lb. chocolate labs and a 25 lb. beagle.

I went to the store where I buy my Canidae and asked for a reccomendation on a more reasonably priced food without losing little to no nutritional value. She reccomended PRO PAC Lamb Meal and Rice. , which I had never heard of.

Now after doing some research, I don't even know if I want to open the bag and feed it to my dogs. It is, indeed, 10 dollars cheaper a bag which does add up, but the nutrients just do not seem comparable.

Should I try to return the bag and return to the Canidae? Here are the ingredients for both:

PRO PAC ingredients:

Lamb Meal, Brewers Rice, Rice Flour, Rice Gluten Meal, Chicken Fat (preserved with mixed Tocopherols, a source of natural Vitamin E), Flaxseed, Yeast Culture, Potassium Chloride, Salt, Choline Chloride, L-Lysine, DL-Methionine Hydroxyanalogue, Vitamin E Supplement, D-activated Animal Sterol (source of Vitamin D3), Vitamin A Acetate, Niacin, D-Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin Supplement, Thiamine Mononitrate, Ascorbic Acid, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride (Vitamin B6), Folic Acid, Manganous Oxide, Ferrous Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Zinc Oxide, Calcium Iodate, Zinc Proteinate, Manganous Proteinate, Iron Proteinate, Magnesium Proteinate, Copper Proteinate.

VS.

What about Costco's Kirkland brand lamb and rice? I think that's it about 17 bucks for 40 pounds.

I switched back to Costco's Lamb and Rice when Canidae changed their ingred. #40 bag for $23.99.

Good Luck, I know how difficult and stressful it is when you need to find a new food.

Thanks for the suggestions! The problem is that we do not have a Costco anywhere near our home (closest is about an hour away) nor do we have a membership. Any good foods at Sams?? lol

Premium Edge is pretty similar to Kirkland: Lamb, lamb meal, whole grain brown rice, cracked pearled barley, oatmeal, millet, egg product, white rice, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), potatoes, tomato pomace, flaxseed, ocean fish meal, natural flavor, choline chloride, dried chicory root, taurine, glucosamine hydrochloride, kelp, carrots, peas, apples, tomatoes, blueberries, spinach, dried skim milk, cranberry powder, rosemary extract, parsley flake, yucca schidigera extract, L-Carnitine, chondroitin sulfate, Enterococcus faecieum, Lactobacillus casei, Lactobacillus acidophilus, Saccharomyces cerevesiae fermentation solubles, dried Aspergillus oryzae fermentation extract, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate, manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin, vitamin D supplement, folic acid. Don't know about the price though. I also know several people feeding Diamond Naturals L&R and their dogs are doing great.
