Well Harley is put on Hill's for now as per vet.I know not a good food and vet making money on it.But I need to calm his digestive track for a bit.We need to do process of elimination of what ingredients is good for him.I spent all night Thursday night taking Harley out for is explosive diarrhea. He was on Natural Balance Lamb and Brown rice for the last 2 weeks. He would be good for 3 days then his stool got mushy again then to water.I only fed him that and the NB treats.First he was on Wellness puppy(solid stools at first then squirts after). He was on puppy food for 8 months. Then I decided to change to Adult Wellness large breed. He was on that for month but then vomited his kibble at the end and finally refused his food.So I though NB would be good. This is the second time his stools were checked and came up negative. The vet put him on Neovast tablets for 5 days and prescription kibble.Already this morning his stool is firm.He likes the Hill's for now.Really nervous after the bag is done on what allergen food to put next.Obviously he needs 1 protein based. But which protein?Maybe Lamb doesn't agree with him?Wellness had chicken.I'm at a lost here. But for now as long he has no stool issues I'm happy. Not good for pup to lose his nutrients.

Natural Balance is a fairly good dog food.

Natural Balance makes L.I.D. foods (Limited Ingrediets Diet) and also Natura makes California Natural which is basically the same type of food, minimal ingredients. You can try a meat exclusive of lamb and chicken and go from there. Buy small bags and find out what works. If the dog was cleared by the vet for any parasites, worms or whatever and has a clean bill of health, he should be able to tolerate one of these foods. Good luck.

EDIT: What might not hurt is adding a probiotic supplement to his food. This has helped dogs in the past with gastrointestinal problems.

Thanks Bearsowner.Beautiful lab you have there.I love chocolate labs.
I'm almost tempted to keep him on Hill's if it works out but way too expensive and not too much protein in it.I don't think Harley ever had consistent firm stools for 2 whole weeks since he was a pup.

I had a foster that we tried several foods with before trying a grain free - NB Venison & Sweet Potato - everything cleared up within 2 days after the switch...which I did immediately because the runny poo could not get worse. Sorry you are having to go through this...I know what it's like to be on poop patrol constantly!

I'm sorry you're going through this. Maybe a fish based food. Natura does make a Herring and Sweet Potato formula. There is also Wellness Core Ocean (but that's for dogs over a year). It would really firm up his poop. It's expensive though.

Thanks Ladybuckeye and NancyO.I was thinking about NB venison and potato.Maybe I'll try that after I finish his prescription bag.Should I mix the prescription food with NB for transition?I will only do this in a few weeks though.
Yes I agree not fun when he goes through this.He actually moans while he is pooping out is soft stools. But not this morning. Also this is the 3rd time in a span of 4 months he whines in middle of night to let him out.Of course I have to get up early for work.So makes for a tiring day.I'm a Lab technologist in a hospital.
Today he is not as energetic.Seems tired. But he only got rice yesterday morning then his prescription kibble at supper after consulted the vet.He had no problem eating this morning.
