This was on the website for Hope animal recues:

Saying Goodbye to a Friend...
Patches has been in our rescue since the beginning of our rescue. He
and his buddy Jojo have remained for the nearly three years since our
conception. He is very old and frail, he has cancer, kidney failure, and
has lost nearly all the muscle mass in his back end. He doesn't know
where he is anymore, walks in to walls and stands there like he is lost.
He urinates on himself and doesn't even know he has. He can't hear,
can't see, and we feel it would be inhumane to allow him to die with no
dignity left. Friday September 26th, 2008 we will let Patches go to the
rainbow bridge. We love him VERY much and do not want him to suffer.
We will be by his side as he has been by ours for so long.
We are asking everyone to light a candle on the morning of the 26th to
help Patches find his way to the bridge.
He will be our first pet to pass in our rescue while waiting to find his
forever home.
That day will be a heavy day, we wanted so much to give him a home,
but his old body just can't wait anymore.

Never forget him, he is a reminder to us all why we do this in the first
place. Patches deserved a home, mankind let him down.

I will be thinking of Patches on Friday and of all Hope Animal Rescue did to try to get him home.

I am so sorry for your loss.

I disagree with the statement that Mankind let Patches down. Your rescue saved him from dying a death in a cold and unloving environment Instead he will cross over in the arms of people that have shown him love. Keep this in your heart as he passes as your love should be the last thing he senses.

I am so sorry...:(

Please take comfort knowing everything you did for Patches...yes, it is very sad that he never found his forever home. Heartbreaking.

I will light a candle for him...

Bless you and all the others in your rescue for all you do...:hug:
