Help! I took in a temporary foster dog last august with the plan being she would be transported to another rescue as soon as she recovered from kennel cough. she recovered and I still have the dog. (not my Idea)

She isnt the easiest to place... a pb but badly bred BLF senior (age 7or 8)previously listed on lab board. neutered and up to date for the moment but september is coming up fast. She is sweet and all in all a great girl who has a few Quirks and a few medical issues nothing that costs money or affects her in anyway but just makes her less appealing than they many other labs available. She is sweet but very reserved at adoption events. has some training but she is stuborn and can independant so doesnt always want to respond. Generally dog friendly but has gotten grumpy with dogs who get to in her face...

My problem is in the past 6 months I have had two major surjurys one of them for a cancer which although i am recovering from the surjury and followup radiation I do not have the energy to care for her and my working service dog. she has lived in my apartment most of the 10 months and does alright but has been at a friends house for the past month and has been thriving in the "home" due to the quieter environment and large yard. She returns in less than a week to me due to the friend leaving town and I am at a loss what else to do to get her adopted or into another rescue.

i joined the local rescue last september who agreed to take her on if i fostered her but has done nothing to help out irregardless of how involved i got in the rescue raising money or supporting others nor is planning on helping not even a post for her on their webpage.
does anyone have ideas on where to post her or what to do with her??she is on adoptapet.com and until recently was on petfinder but was taken off because she supposedly was accepted into a rescue which has backed out.
i dont have the energy to jump through too many hoops at the moment but need to get her safe at the same time...

BUMP, I am sorry this is happening to you and also sorry to hear about your medical issues.
Is it okay if I cross post her far and wide to try to help? If so, what is the contact info, if someone is interested?

I am SO sorry to hear what you are going through.
by BLF do you mean Black Lab Female?
What else do you think she is mixed with?
Is she good w/cats, kids?
Is she spayed, HW negative?
I will crosspost her for sure.
What is best way to contact you?
Is your name Amanda, or is that the sweet dog's name.

I don't understand how the dog can be accepted into a rescue program, yet the rescue group refuses to help you at all? Is the rescue group a 501c3 non-profit or operating in an official capacity? That's pretty odd for them to refuse to put her on their website. I'm wondering if some polite, yet strongly worded letters are in order.

Here are more details about princess Indiana for people to pass on ...
She was a stray probably an outdoor only dog who wasnt fed enough because she was not housetrained or expecting to eat daily when I got her. She loves feeding time does a dance when Im dishing it up and then a crazy sit impersonation until it gets into her food stand.

She is supposedly pure bred black lab, every vet says she is just badly bred, my lab expert friend says she sort of looks mixed but who knows with what.. she is tiny compared to my working dog. her shoulder barely comes up to my knee and I am 5'2" she is all muscle ..

when she wants something she pulls to get it but i walk her either alone or with a gentle leader and she is pretty decently behaved, sometimes will still jump after a low flying bird or try to get to a neighborhood dog.

i crate her when i leave her alone. she tries to get into whatever food is reachable on the counter or climb into some nook and cranny of my apartment which is dangerous in the clutter. however at the temp foster she is with she has free reign of the home and yard all day and other than leaving a gift of a dead squirrill she found in the living room has had no problems being given free reign loves the quiet of a house. HATES loud noises: thunder vaccums, garbage disposals send her into a panic to find the smallest place she can hide. She got over the dishwasher and some other loud sounds at my apartment but the neighbors slam the door or open their window and play their music loud and she gets upset.

she loves to hang out on the couch next to you or hang out on the floor either playing with a toy or just being in the zone. If you ignore her too much she does something she knows is bad right in your line of sight just so you pay attention to her. (IE chews on the plastic bin holding the toys and only just enough to get your attention if you ignore it she stops immediately)

She has been occasionally very interested in birds, squirrills other times is easy to distract from them, has seen a few cats but isnt temp tested with them, has lived with a small terrier mix and with my large breed former fosters/service dogs but has encountered many others off leash is better than on but generally is good with dogs

she is spayed supposedly had come into the shelter that way. was hw negative in aug/sept. and has been on preventative all year. her body has a few fat lumps all of which were checked by the vet, and one mole on a paw that the vet wasnt concerned about but is watched for changes just in case. she was injured at one point on her right rear leg, it was xrayed and has been checked by several vets, she benefitted from chiropractic care and is generally fine but occasionally limps after tons of exercise. Due to this being sore and my lab jumping on her back too many times she got grumpy about dogs jumping on her but has been better about it after treatment for injury. She has a very mild heart murmur one that will not affect her life and can only be heard when you hold her front paw forward due to her heart being slightly forward-- another sign of bad breeding.

i can always bring her to the vet for a full blood workup when she comes back from the temp home it covers: HW, thyroid (which may be low due to age) and all the normal stuff CBC, CHEM etc. I wont due the shots since she isnt due until late august early sept.

she was an escape artist when i got her slipped any collar or harness i tried no matter how tight. In the past 6 months has not escaped but will remove the gentle leader from her nose if we stop moving (thank goodness for safety clips)

she has been exposed to kids of all ages but may be better with older kids just because she can get excited and run over a small kid or her JAWS impersionation when taking a treat is scary even though she doesnt eat fingers. she might eat their toys if left around or doesnt get the attention she feels she needs.

like i said not the easiest dog to place but she is smart has a good heart and really wants to be a loved member of a home who understand her Quirks.
