Can help or offer me suggestions on the three girls in my sig I would be forever grateful. I found a foster home for the youngest and she is doing very well there. I can't bring either of the other two home - I tried and it was a disaster. I could handle their issues if I had just one or even two of my own but with 4 and a hound with a broken leg and hip who is healing at my house I just could not keep the peace even with crating. They are very very sweet girls but they lack social skills - something they are sadly not going to get while sitting in the shelter. They are smart girls and have learned basic commands from the volunteers.

Anyone????

Kathy,

I'll think, but mostly what I'm thinking is why do I have to live so far from you? Keira is not good around dogs that lack social manners, but Saundra is great with them. She just lowers her head and bulldozes her way through. Meanwhile, Sam is truly a perfect dog in such situations. He LOVES to play; he thinks any kind of alpha stuff and disagreeable snarling are reasons to butt tuck like maniac, come back, prance in front of the newbie as if to say, "Now? Uh? Would now be a good time to play?" Over and over again until even Anatolians relent.

What are these two doing? Are they stalking and rushing in for trouble? Are they just highly protective of space and body space?

Those idiot "owners." :( These dogs and you, my friend as you stress over all of this, you guys are the ones paying for the idiots.

Did you happen to see Dogtown (the show last Friday )
on Best Friends Dogtown? Dogtown is a place they train undersocialized dogs and dogs with problems.
http://www.bestfriends.org/

It would be worth a shot to call them and e-mail them and ask if they could take them or offer suggestions where you could ask for help.

Dogtown wil be on again this Friday on national geographic at 9 PM Est and 8 PM CST

Sadly the two older ones Fight - with each other or any other dog that gets in close contact with them. I know the guy had 13 dogs - he took 10 of them with him when he got foreclosed on - he hid these three in the woods tied to trees - there was a bucket that appeared to have had some food in it at one time but they were out there for at least 2 weeks - and probably closer to 3 or 4 before someone found them. There were 9 horses tied out there with them. The horses all have homes - the dogs not so lucky. They are NOT housebroken - they pee and poop all over themselves daily. They are better than when we got them but it is next to impossible to teach housebreaking in a shelter.

The girl who took Sissy - the baby - is making some headway with her as far as that - and Sissy does not seem to have the dog aggression the other two have. I have hope for her.

It is just a sad situation and I live out in the middle of nowhere - no rescues around at all - and even the ones that are within a 200 mile radius tend to just ignore us up here.

Lori (Poochsaver) sent me some information so I am going to start that process tomorrow.

Kathy, I don't know if there is something like this up there OR if it even really works in the long run but there is a guy in Louisiana that has a concept called Large Field Socialization that is supposed to help dog aggressive dogs. I'm actually planning at some point in the next month or so to take one of the Lab Rescue dogs I have here out to one of his sessions. I'll get his name and number out and maybe you can contact him to see if any of his past students may offer this near you.

Kathy,
There's another program here, which may be a similiar idea as to what Tammy is speaking about with the Large Field Socialization -- though this class I'm sure is on a much smaller scale than the one Tammy is taking one of the rescue dogs to in LA. This program is in Dickenson, TX. We have two other dogs in our program that have had dog aggression issues that are attending these classes and showing some success -- particularly one of the dogs. They only meet weekly and operate in an open field. The time is strict start and finish that the trainer controls. They all enter the field and at his command everyone takes their dogs off leash and they all begin walking the loop -- handlers keep walking, trainer monitors and redirects dogs. I haven't seen the class, only heard about it. The thing that's helpful in our situation is that both of these dogs are in foster homes, and the foster family is attending the classes with the dogs. I can find out more about the trainer and if there is any similar program closer to you or if they can offer any advice. That situation stinks and I'm sorry for you and those dogs.

Kathy...I wish I knew of a foster or two that didn't own a dog. :(
