Riddle 06-12-2006, 09:24 PM Just got some a couple days ago. Switched my dog from Science Diet J/D (gave him large loose stools and gas) to Innova EVO and will be adding in GC.
Like the Nicholas Cage movie, it's gone in less than 60 seconds. Not long enough on it yet to comment on how it's impacting his health.
Dad of Jes 06-12-2006, 10:41 PM Looks pretty good for dogs that tolerate beef...unless it's for a puppy. Beef is the most common allergen in terms of meat, and it's in the top 4 or 5 of all allergens, that would be my only concern. If there's no allergy to beef, however, I'd say it's a good food (again, unless we're talking about feeding it to a puppy and the calcium is way too high for them).
Lovemylabby 06-12-2006, 11:05 PM Is EVO Red Meat something new?? I haven't heard of it...

I believe it is, I haven't seen it around here, and I don't recall seeing it on their website the last time I was there a month or so ago.
amyh521 06-22-2006, 07:00 AM Yeah ... I saw that in the store here a few weeks back.
I am interested in hearing opinions on this.
We are feeding just the regular Innova Evo and have had pretty good success with it. I am thinking I will probably just stick with what works.
ZenCat 06-23-2006, 12:42 PM I've got to join Dad of Jes in issuing the caution for beef. My boys both do beautifully with beef (raw) but many dogs do not.
As always, I love that its grain free... but its also a quite complex food with a couple of common allergens in it, so watch your dogs during transition.

Dad of Jes 06-23-2006, 06:03 PM What's wrong with tomotoes? I've taken after my Dad and grow some tomatoes in the backyard (mainly cherry tomatoes) and Jes loves 'em. Are they bad (I know the plant part is, but I didn't know why you've "bolded" tomatoes in the ingredient list)?

From the aspca site:
Tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum) belong to the nightshade family. Ingestion of the greenery, flowers, and green fruit can cause clinical problems in dogs and cats. Tomatine, an alkaloid related to solanine, is the agent that is concentrated in the young fruit and plant. As the plant ripens, the tomatine is metabolized. Therefore, ripe tomatoes are less likely to be problematic for animals. Clinical signs include gastrointestinal (GI) upset, cardiac effects, and central nervous system signs (e.g., ataxia, muscle weakness, tremors, seizures), resulting from cholinesterase inhibition. Because tomatine is very poorly absorbed orally, systemic effects are rare. As with all intoxications, the severity of clinical signs depends on the amount ingested. Treatment usually consists of symptomatic and supportive care.

The issue I have with tomatoes included in commercial dog food is that we can't determine the quality (age, ripeness, potential inclusion of stem pieces or leaves etc.).
Dad of Jes 06-23-2006, 07:32 PM Okay, just making sure the tomatoes Jes gets are alright. He actually will pick them off, which makes me nervous because he obviously doesn't know not to eat the plant so that's a habit we're working on breaking. That boy loves tomatoes though. I think I'd trust Innova, though. Most dog food companies would rather keep their clients alive. Deaths are bad for business.
