Well, I couldn't remember if I had posted this or not, and I didn't see it in any of the other forums, so I guess I'll go ahead and post it here! :) Sorry if you've seen this before, but I love this story (hee hee)

I moved away from home last year around Memorial Day, and it was the first time in my life (that I could remember) that I was without a dog. I was going batty, so I decided I had to get one or go nuts! Anyway, I asked my mom to go with me to the Humane Society to pick my new "daughter." (I knew I wanted a female ahead of time- have always had the best luck with them)

On the way there, Mom asks me if I know what I want- big dog, little dog, puppy, adult... I said I knew I wanted an adult (who was housetrained!), because I know they have a harder time adopting out adult dogs (everyone wants puppies!). Other than that, I had a feeling I would just know the right dog when I saw her.

I was sticking my fingers in to pet a husky mix when I heard my mom go, "Oh, Carrie- come look at this one!" with that sappy, "oh-she's-so-cute" tone in her voice. I get over there, to the LAST cage, and here's this gorgeous black lab sitting there right at the front of the cage, big sad brown eyes imploring me, "Are you gonna take me home?" I was hooked!

We looked at the info sheet, and it said her name was Katie- but whoever wrote it on there had sloppy writing, and it looked like it said "Karie," so we thought that she LITERALLY had my name on her! (Albeit spelled incorrectly!) We got the volunteer to get her out and let us visit with her, and couldn't help laughing as she literally dragged the poor girl into the room ;) and I laughed my head off when she jumped up into the large planter with the decorative tree and started digging and throwing mulch against the wall! I could tell right away that she was just the dog I was looking for- lots of energy, a happy dog, and a constant source of entertainment.

It's been over a year with her, and I've never regretted a moment of it. I'm glad her blockhead former owner decided she was no good if she didn't hunt  because I got a great dog in the bargain!

So, that's our story! Will post pictures soon!

Sounds like it was meant to be, kind of like my Moonpieziedog.

'Jazzmyspazz.' Does she spazz out sometimes? Sometimes when I ask Moonpie 'Do you want to GO?' (which means a car ride) she'll spazz out - kind of dance, and shake all over, and act goofy. Then she'll sit but every muscle quivers.

What a sweet story and what a lucky girl she is.

Sounds like you both lucked out!

I love reading posts about her, keep them coming! And, congrats on a great rescue story.

Well, I hadn't read your story anywhere, so I'm glad you decided to post it here! Jazz has always sounded like a great girl, and now it seems she had a sense of humor right from the start. (Digging in the planter? Was she kidding?)

Thanks for sharing this.

Hi moonpiesdad and jazzmyspazz,

My dog Nutella does what Moonpie does -- when I say to her, "Do you want to go with me?", she knows it means it's time to go in the car, and she dances, hops, and jumps and wags her tail furiously. Somehow she knows either by my actions, my intonation, or my words that it's time to go in the car. I'm always amazed that she knows this.

I had a similar dog adoption experience -- I feel so lucky to have adopted her.

Marvelous,

I enjoyed reading your story. What a sweet smile Nutella has!

Yesterday I took Moonpie to the vet for a steroid shot - she has wicked bad skin allergies and was scratching/licking/biting herself silly. Even at the vet she was like, 'Happy! Happy! I got to go!'

Hi moonpiesdad,

Thank you for the compliment regarding Nutella -- she's a neat, good-natured dog, and I think she's been a wonderful introduction for me on what being a dog owner is about. I read some of the stories about the (oh so cute and beautiful) puppies folks have on this board, and I'm not sure I could be prepared as a new dog owner for all the things that a puppy owner goes through.

Funny story about Moonpie and the vet -- and once again, I am right there with you. Nutella literary jumps excitedly out of the car once we get to the vet. She even gets excited as we pull into the parking lot -- she must smell something that she likes there.

Here's a spazz activity that Nutella does: when we come back from our morning walk, she will lie on her back on her bed and just wriggle around for a minute or two, with all 4 legs up in the air. Her mouth is open and her teeth are showing; to me, she looks like she is smiling...

jazzmyspazz, I truely enjoyed reading your story. Our Chloe came home with us by accident. My wife and daughters went to the SPCA to look at the dogs. That night they told me of two dogs they liked and wanted me to go in and see them the next day. My wife and I went in the next day and looked at the dogs a rotweiler and a shepard, both about 5 years. I couldn't make up my mind, I thought both were too big. That was when I spotted Chloe. She was just sitting in her kennel and looking totally lost and lonely. I got one of the volunteers to bring her into the visiting pen. When I knelt down she was all over me. Super hyper, I couldn't stop laughing. To make a long story short, Chloe came with us that day and we've enjoyed her presence ever since. That was about 3 weeks ago and I have to say she has made herself right at home.:p:
