View Full Version : Kilo still in crate 24/7, PLEZ Kilo needs a REAL home
cabot8266 12-24-2005, 09:11 AM I was in touch with the people who have Kilo and he still needs out. If you remember my post from sometime ago, he is the one who failed the bomb class and is kenneled pretty much 24/7. This is no life for this beautiful guy. I am now pleading for help to get him out. I tried not to get involved but I just can't sit here and know that this poor boy is living in a cage. Here is the original thread. Anyone please help. http://lab-retriever.net/board/showthread.php?t=58625

Lovemylabby 12-24-2005, 09:15 AM Oh my...I remember him and I thought he was rescued....I am so sorry...let's all come together and save this boy....can you please post his picture again? I couldn't find it....
d2roberts 12-24-2005, 09:16 AM I can't find the pic either.
C & C's Mom 12-24-2005, 09:19 AM Praying for a forever home for this sweetie.
cabot8266 12-24-2005, 10:09 AM Here is the picture of Kilo, I don't know why it didn't show up in the previous thread.
LindaAcup 12-24-2005, 12:22 PM I don't understand why someone here on the board can't help this boy that is being crated 24/7. I would if I have a foster open. SOMEONE???? ANYONE?
miskeira 12-25-2005, 08:24 AM Hey Everyone! This boy is beautiful. Even though he flunked out as a bomb dog, he still deserves a great home. Is there anyone out there that can foster him or adopt him? Pleae make the new year bright for this boy!
Susan
Susan 12-25-2005, 10:20 AM Oh Michelle, I was so hopeful he had been adopted. He is a beautiful dog and has some basic obedience training. He would be such a wonderful dog for someone! If someone reading this could give Kilo a wonderful home, speak up. Maybe a transport can be put together. If you could commit to fostering until adoption, please say so. I think Linda and LOLIN would be willing to list him; Linda just doesn't have a foster for him.
This guy is beautiful, perfect age to be out of puppy nuisance behavior yet young and lab-exhuberant, and he has some good training already. The only thing Kilo is missing is YOU, his new forever home!
Susan
how old and what is his story other than he's a bomb dog flunkie? Why did he not pass?
miskeira 12-25-2005, 10:32 AM Dani, I think he's pretty young. Around 2, I think. Don't know why he didn't pass bomb school. Could be anything. Maybe he's too hyper. All I know is that we need to get him out of that crate that he's in 24/7.
Dani, do you think you might have a foster home for him? He's so beautiful. He doesn't deserve to be caged up like that. Of course, I can put the transport together for him!!!
cabot8266 12-25-2005, 10:37 AM Dani, they said he didn't have the drive that is needed to be a bomb dog. They got them out of the paper from a couple who found him and couldn't keep him. It looks like they get these babies and then they fail, so now what, they keep him in a crate 24/7. I know he is not in a kill shelter as some of the others, but him being in a crate all the time is not a life. This is the e-mail I got from them the other day.
I have got to get Kilo out of here,
like NOW!!! I just have not been able to find him a home,or anyone to
take him in. I don't know what to do, we are just WAY over the limit here.
Please if anyone can help I know he would be a wonderful addition.
Michelle
Susan 12-25-2005, 10:44 AM Dani,
Michelle and I have talked some about Kilo. The people who took Kilo in for training simply answered a "for free ad" in the newspaper. The person who placed the ad allegedly found Kilo as a stray but was unable to keep him. So finder runs for free ad, bomb school picks him up, and then Kilo doesn't work out for them.
I can't remember what they said about why. Possibly not enough drive or the right kind of drive. ?? Michelle do you remember? That info could help so that people aren't wondering if Kilo is untrainable or something.
Because anyone can read this board, I don't want to be too rude, but I will say I have shared with Michelle my frustration with a facility that seems to have little pre-testing in place before taking in a lab for bomb and SAR training (although even pretested dogs can fail; I know that) and it also seems to have no plan for placing failed dogs other than to call Michelle and worry her. Michelle has met the people and seen their training facility; they are "for real," but maybe do not have every detail worked out.
I get the impression that Kilo is typical lab that needs some exercise and reinforcement of a few manners. He seems eager to please and smart, but probably had an inept owner as a puppy. Last I knew, he also needed neutered.
Dani, do you think you can help this guy? I would be happy to help with expenses. He is really eating away at Michelle and she absolutely cannot take him because she is at her city limit. Actually, he is bugging me too. Kilo keeps paying for others' (NOT Michelle) poor planning.
Susan
Wenzss 12-25-2005, 12:10 PM this boy is bugging me also. how does he do with other dogs, do we know?
I will chat with some folks on the way down to Mississippi....is there any one that could get him and temporarily hold him until we either straight up transport him to Michigan or adopt in state?
Susan, how far is he from you? Do we know if he is good with kids, cats, other dogs?
Wenzss 12-25-2005, 01:03 PM If he does ok with other dogs i will take him if no one else nearer can.
miskeira 12-25-2005, 02:25 PM Be glad to help with a transport set up for this boy. Just let me know.
well, if we can figure it out, let me know...some of you know how to get a hold of me...I will be wagon training down south to pick up some puppies from shaqpuppy. :)
LindaAcup 12-25-2005, 03:52 PM Hey everyone, I had 3 dogs that flunked from bomb school, they are ALL fine, it does NOT mean there is anything wrong at all, possibly he just likes people more than working, as that seemed to be our 3 cases. :)
Lovemylabby 12-25-2005, 05:20 PM I could help out a little with expenses too...
miskeira 12-25-2005, 05:26 PM We really need someone that could temp foster him until I can get the transport together. Is there anyone close that can do that for us!
Lovemylabby 12-25-2005, 05:33 PM I just had a thought...what about "limey" who is a member of the board that lives in Arkansas...perhaps he would be interested in temporary foster situation....I saw his post on the other thread regarding the dogs in Little Rock, Arkansas and he is asking Liana about becoming a volunteer at that shelter in Arkansas....I am wondering if he would be interested?
Lovemylabby 12-25-2005, 05:35 PM If you look at the thread "Gorgeous yellow lab at LRAS" you will see his post...
azawinsky 12-25-2005, 06:02 PM He is gorgeous. I hope we can save him. As long as he is safe I am not worried because I think we will get something together.
cabot8266 12-25-2005, 07:51 PM Sorry, haven't been on much today, been playing with the girls most of the day. I can foster for a short time, but it can't be very long because I am at my cities limit. I can pick him up from the people and help with transport. I know that he is not neutered and needs to be HW tested and updated on shots. I will double check on the shots, I know the last time I was trying to help him he was due pretty soon for shots. I don't know if they got that taken care of or not. I will check. I sure hope we can get this baby out of there and into a loving home. Thanks to everyone.
Michelle
Susan 12-25-2005, 10:06 PM Sorry, I've been off the board most of the day. Dani, Kilo is about 450 miles from me, one way. It looks like Michelle might be able to foster him short term. Michelle, before I could do a temporary foster for Kilo, I would need to know more about how he is with other dogs, especially female alphas, no make that female ALPHAs (my foster Anatolian). Cats would be nice to know too. Because Kilo is not in danger, just in a bad situation, I would rather not put him through the transport and Keira.
Michelle, please do not even begin to think you are going to pay for all that vetting. NO WAY. I will help and I better others will too. We also want to keep in mind the possibility of having to board him if you can't keep long enough.
Maybe at long last, things are starting to look up for Kilo!
Susan
Lovemylabby 12-26-2005, 06:17 AM Keeping positive thoughts for Kilo...I know if we work together, we will get him out of this bad situation.

OK, apparently Dani & Susan have stepped in, so I'll be in the background if you need me Michelle.

Linda, first, really cool avatar!
I know I have not stepped in and I don't think Dani has, but I bet it sounds like it! I think everyone is seeing who can figure out a foster or adoption situation for Kilo. I know you've been looking and asking/begging. I've sent out some feelers too. Dani is looking. I don't know which one of us will come up with the workable solution, but I know Kilo will be the better for it!
My other concern was seeing that Kilo's vet bills are not shouldered by Michelle alone. I am a little afraid she might try to pay for all the vetting. I really wanted to jump on that issue!
Susan
LindaAcup 12-26-2005, 01:27 PM No, that's fine, honestly I do NOT care as long as we find a permanent home, but I want to let people know who to contact is all. Absolutely NO problem, I swear it.
cabot8266 12-26-2005, 06:36 PM I would like to thank everyone for their help with Kilo. As I have said, I can foster just not for very long. So if anyone can come up with a solution, please let me know. I will leave Kilo where he is until I get the word to go and get him. I'll be waiting for the go ahead. Thanks again everyone.
Michelle
azawinsky 12-26-2005, 10:55 PM Linda, Dani, and Susan(abbeygirl),
Are there any options yet. It seems we have someone able to hold him for a short while. Michelle can you define what you mean by a short time.
thanks.
I am still working on things from the road...I will be in touch with Susan tomorrow....it really depends on a few things.
cabot8266 12-28-2005, 09:55 AM I talked with the people who have Kilo yesterday and was a little irritated to learn that Kilo has what she called crate soars from spinning in his crate. I am going to talk to my husband about getting him, because this is just not right.
Michelle
miskeira 12-28-2005, 10:10 AM Just got off the phone with Dani. Michelle if you can get him and keep him for about 7-10 days, I can get a transport together to get him up here to Michigan. Dani will be able to get the money to you for vetting once she's back in town so if you can get him to your vet and have him neutered, utd on shots and hw tested that would be great. I'll start working on the transport right now.
Van'sMom 12-28-2005, 10:22 AM Ok, I just got caught up with the thread...Im not quite sure what all is going on right now but I may be able to foster him for a bit...if needed...But im in GA....just a thought
Janice
Lovemylabby 12-28-2005, 10:22 AM OH MY GOODNESS..this poor dog...."crate sores" ..how awful...this is not right....I am praying that something works out there...Michele...I hope you can get him temporarily...he needs you....you are wonderful...
lillybenny 12-28-2005, 10:27 AM I can help a little with the $, I don't have a lot. Just let me know.
cabot8266 12-28-2005, 10:29 AM I only have a minute, I am sneaking at work. Susan I will PM you this afternoon. Thanks for all your help.
Michelle
Susan 12-28-2005, 10:43 AM Okay, I haven't been on the board. Michelle I will look for a PM from you. Because of the Anatolian, my fostering Kilo even short term is very iffy, but I can and will make it work if I am his only choice. I would be more positive about this but because Kilo is not neutered, I suspect his acceptance of Keira's dominance is not a given.
Michelle if you can't keep Kilo at all for the time needed, then we need to get him to me ASAP because of my work schedule. Meaning, I am more available now than later to meet you and get him. If you think you could board him until he can get to MI, that would work (yeah, I know from crate to boarding); I would help with the expense.
Susan
miskeira 12-28-2005, 11:59 AM Michelle and Susan, just let me know what you decide to do. I can start the transport to Michigan.
miskeira 12-28-2005, 12:49 PM I've got the transport finished for Kilo to come to Michigan. Please keep me updated Michelle and Susan. Thanks.
Susan 12-28-2005, 12:55 PM Susan,
This Susan is making things confusing because I keep replying to posts directed to you. :floor Sheesh, what were our mothers thinking when they named us both Susan??
Unless someone says differently in a loud voice ( :shout: to get my attention, I will assume any further Susans in this thread are to you! Michelle and I have exchanged PM and it sounds like she can indeed foster short term. That would spare Kilo a trip to KS and a meet/greet with Keira!
I continue to hope that we will be told how to donate towards Kilo's expenses!
Susan (the other one)

Okay, I'm going to post the transport for Kilo soon.
It's a nice coincidence!! Your name is Susan, my name is Susan, You have a dog named Keira and I had a dog names Keira! :)

I know that Dani said she will be paying for his vetting as soon as she gets back into town, but if Michelle could let us know the name and phone number of the vet she's going to be using, you and anyone else could call in to donate toward Kilo's vet bills.
C & C's Mom 12-28-2005, 04:54 PM Bless you all. I am so glad Kilo is going to be fostered.
I wish I had a big van. I would put a crap load of dogs in before I come back to MIchigan.
azawinsky 12-28-2005, 07:39 PM You need one like Susan's....those "real" vans are awesome.
