The food is also manufactured by Diamond. Just a warning in case you have a problem with Diamond foods.

I am still stunned how nicely Hudler's coat suddenly is now that they are back on that food.

I am still stunned how nicely Hudler's coat suddenly is now that they are back on that food. Both of them have been on Canidae for about 2 months and are doing ok on it...My only gripe is Reese poops about 4x a day:eek: and Melo sometimes is a larger stool...Never runny or anything..their coats are ok, no dandruff or anything...my biggest problem is that they go through the 36lb bag in 18 days!!:eek: so was looking at cheaper options without going into "bad/yucky" food...

That's why I went back to Kirkland. We had Hudler and Maddy on it for years and then I got the notion I wanted "better" for them. I am going through 80# a month and there was no way in heck I could afford paying $45 for 30# (or about $135 a month for kibbles). Now I can spend $50 for 80#.....and I am seeing nicer coats and better stools.

Which Kirkland food do you use? I know they came out with an organic one but haven't checked that one out for a while. Time to go to Costco and have a look.

I went to Costco today and picked up a bag of the organic chicken. I see it has beet pulp in it which I'm not sure about-will have to look into that. Otherwise it looks pretty good. It is just chicken and chicken meal, with 24% protein.

I didn't notice anything about organic when I went. I "worried" about beet pulp as it is a filler but from what I have heard (I think 3dognight mentioned it), it's actually not too bad and has digestive properties. I figure if that's the "worst" ingredient and saves me that much money (and their coats are looking nicer), I don't care. We are getting the lamb & rice.

Some of you may have seen that i bought the dogs a bag of blue buffalo and i can tell you that i am going back to Kirkland! Brodie likes it but he will litteraly eat anything and Rusty doesnt really like it, plus I agree, they both did really good on kirkland. i just got this crazy idea that i needed to feed them the "best" food, i think they do better on kirkland. going to buy a new bag tonight! i asked my vet about the beet pulp too on tuesday when i had rusty in and he said the same thing, thats its actually not bad for them.

Here's some information on beet pulp :) Beet Pulp, the isolated fibrous material from sugar beets, is another ingredient that has an undeservedly bad reputation. It is a very gentle, beneficial source of fiber that is not only generally very well tolerated, but also has specific properties that make it suitable as a source of nutrition for the beneficial bacteria that reside in the intestinal tract. The sugar is almost completely removed, what is left in the pulp is only about 1/5 the amount of sugar that you would find in a serving of carrots of equal size. It is also colorless and does not turn a dog's coat turn red, like urban legends claim. The argument that beet pulp is an "unnatural" ingredient is often brought up, but people who present this complaint seem to forget that it is also not natural for dogs to eat highly processed commercial products with a carb content of generally 40% and more, and a moisture content of only around 10% as opposed to a more natural 60-70%. Added fiber is required to make such formulations work for the pets who eat a dry diet. http://www.dogfoodproject.com/index.php?page=betterproducts

I am still stunned how nicely Hudler's coat suddenly is now that they are back on that food.Kirkland was the food that brought my dogs' coats back to health after our Canidae adventure years ago. :tup2: I don't feed it as often now that it costs me $15 in gas to get to the nearest Costco. :(

what would u guys say is the ingredient in Kirkland that is NOT in Canidae, that helps out their coats so much..I gotta say, you guys are getting my psyched to starting it:D! my kids don't have problems with Canidae but my pocket does!!:eek:

The organic is a 25pd. bag(light green) that is a Chicken and Rice formula, made with fresh, organic chicken and chicken meal as protein sources. It was $23.69 for the bag so it is more expensive than the other ones.

Thanks for the information on beet pulp 3dognite-that was helpful.

Consistancy?

Oh don't mind me...I'm still bitter over several weeks of cleaning up puke and worse prior to finding out Canidae changed their formula. I'll get over it in a decade or two.

LOVE your signature..

BTW, please keep in mind that my experience with Canidae was years ago - long, long before the ingredient change. Oddly enough, that was around the time Kirkland changed their formulas to add "holistic doo-dads", and a lot of the long-time Kirkland feeders walked away in disgust. Everything old is new again. ;)

If I end up getting another lab, I'm going to try switching to Kirklands. Dog food prices just seem to be going up and up with no end in sight.

I just switched back to Kirklands was feeding TOTW and was waiting for Canidae's grain free checked the price at the feedstore $47.99. Don't have the extra $$ to afford the higher end foods.

I haven't seen the organic chicken by the description of the bag....My picky boy, Hudler, actually likes the canned too. We are traveling in NM right now and he is with me, and for the first time EVER, eating normally on a trip.

Maybe they don't have it in all of their stores. They started carrying it up here a year or so ago. I used one bag at one point but stayed with Canidae. I've decided to give this one a try instead of the new Canidae formula. However since Canidae had several protein sources the other Kirkland formulas may be more similiar to that. I'll have to see how it goes.
Glad to hear Hudler is eating well while you travel!
