And have you ever seen one in Alabama posted before? labtrainer 07-14-2006, 04:06 PM The lab fest in SC is a place to play with your dog and to meet people that also like to play with their dogs. ZenCat 07-14-2006, 05:33 PM A great way for our labs to get together and for us to meet other lab lovers and talk dogs! I've now attended 3 LabFests with folks from the Northeast US who hang out on this board. Great fun!!!! They even welcome my big gangly greyhound! BaxtersMama 07-15-2006, 09:03 AM Is this something that ppl from the board organize or is this something that other groups organize and you guys just spread the word? How do I find one in my area? Mom2labs 07-15-2006, 09:32 AM Usually one person starts it, and it goes from there. They find out the best location for everyone. We had one in May in Illinois. Most of the people were from IL, WI, and IN. But we had one from Canada, and one from Missouri, too. Oh, and Mrs. Lisa flew in from Las Vegas, but couldn't bring her dogs. We had it on a farm, and some of us stayed overnight and camped. It was great, and we had a ball! My sig pic was taken at the lab fest. We definitely need to do it again. Woody 07-20-2006, 05:59 PM The term Lab Fest was coined on this board as far back as 2004 when we had the first one in Colorado. It appears that there are a number of websites that are stealing the term for their own and calling their get togethers Lab Fests. labtrainer 08-03-2006, 01:52 AM Not sure where the phrase lab fest was coined I went to one in 1997 in Lexington KY and the people there talked about Lab fests of the past. They are a lot of fun and a great place to meet the folks you talk to from time to time. JACKS MOM 08-03-2006, 11:08 AM How do you find out where the fest's are in your area ?? do you have to wait for someone to post??? they sound like so much fun:) sorry I'm new to this thread and still learning THANKS labtrainer 08-03-2006, 01:01 PM The easy way to do it is pick a date (Say Sept 16) find a few lab chat boards and post that you have having a lab fest in NJ Sept 16 at such and such park (make sure it is on to have one there) then as people come on board you can set up different activates. I train dogs I have gatherings at my place all the time so I know what kinds of silly pet things to do for pet crowds and what kind of serious things to do with the hard core dog people (competition dogs) But the bottom line is just have fun with your new friends. What we are doing in SC is a first as far as I know We are getting national sponsorship for some of the events and prizes for some of the pet games. I think we have a Kong and a jar of peanut butter for the peanut butter eating contest sponsored by Skippy and things like that. So pick a place and a time and see what you can come up with. JACKS MOM 08-03-2006, 01:20 PM Thanks I'm going to look into places:) _labluver4ever_ 08-13-2006, 09:17 PM im still kinda new too. i have a lab and a friend with 2 dogs. but her's arent labs. do the dogs that come have to be labs? |
